Renault India has issued an official statement addressing customer concerns regarding the use of E20 fuel in E10-certified vehicles. The company has clarified that its vehicles, specifically the 2022 model Triber, were tested and certified according to the prevailing E10 fuel standards at the time. This announcement comes in response to long-standing questions within the automotive sector about the safety of using E20 fuel in vehicles designed for E10 fuel. The company cited a joint study conducted by Indian Oil Corporation and the Automotive Research Association of India. This study evaluated the durability of vehicles using various fuel blends, with a focus on the effects of using E20 fuel in E10-certified vehicles. The draft report of this study was shared with all vehicle manufacturers by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. According to the report, there were no adverse effects observed on existing on-road vehicles using E20 fuel, indicating that E10-certified vehicles can operate seamlessly with E20 fuel. Renault states that based on this study, there is no significant technical risk associated with using E20 fuel in its vehicles. The company has confirmed that its models, previously certified under E10 standards, can function without major issues on E20 fuel. This is significant because the Indian government aims to make E20 ethanol-blended petrol available throughout the country by 2025. This clarification from Renault alleviates customer concerns regarding their older E10-certified vehicles and supports the government’s green fuel policy.

The Indian government is accelerating the use of 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol (E20) in vehicles. However, some experts in the automobile industry suggest that this type of fuel may affect the fuel efficiency, or mileage, of vehicles. They believe that the use of E20 can lead to a 2 to 5 percent reduction in mileage.
