ARNIA: A flying object was fired at by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Arnia sector near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

“Today at about 0530 hours, a blinking red and yellow light in the sky observed by our forward troops in Arnia sector near to the IB. Our troops immediately fired 25 LMG rounds on the flying object due to which it gained some height and went towards Pak side,” the BSF said in a statement.

The BSF added that the area was being searched with the help of the police. Earlier in June this year, two drones were used to carry out an attack on an Air Force base in Jammu. After the Jammu attack, the number of drone sightings has gone up drastically and there have been several instances where the Army and BSF troops at the border have fired at them.

SRINAGAR:  The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday night spotted a drone over Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir and opened fire, forcing it to retreat across the International Border (IB). It was the sixth sighting of an unidentified drone in J&K after the first-ever drone attack on an Indian Air Force base in Jammu on June 27.

A BSF official said, a blinking red light was spotted by border guards about 9.52 pm on Tuesday.  The drone was flying at a height of about 200 meters inside the Indian side of the border. The BSF personnel quickly fired at the flying object, forcing it to retreat across the border, the official said.

The security officials said the drone must have been tasked with spying or dropping arms and ammunition for local terrorists. Once the drone retreated, the BSF launched a search operation in the area but nothing suspicious was found on the ground.

Airports, military and government installations and along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) have been on high-alert since the June 27 attack in which injured two. Two drones had dropped two IEDs, which comprised RDX and nitrate, on the IAF base in the first attack. The attack damaged the rooftop of one of the buildings.

Wednesday’s foiled drone activity was the sixth instance of a drone being spotted in Jammu region after the June 27 IAF base attack, which is about 14 kms from the border.

JAMMU: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire at a flying object after they spotted it near the International Border (IB) in the Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior official said on Wednesday.

On the intervening night of July 13 and 14, a blinking red light was observed by the troops in the Arnia sector at a height of 200 metres on its own side, the official said in a statement.

“The troops fired from their position towards the red blinking light due to which it returned. The area is being searched. Nothing has been found so far,” he added.

On July 2, a quadcopter from Pakistan tried to enter Indian territory along the international border from Arnia sector but retreated after it was fired at by the personnel of the BSF.

In what was the first instance of Pakistan-based terrorists deploying drones to strike vital installations, two bombs were dropped at the IAF station in Jammu city in the early hours of June 27, causing minor injuries to two personnel.

Authorities in various districts, mostly in border districts in Jammu and Kashmir, have banned the storage, sale or possession of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles.
