Toyota, known for popular vehicles like the Fortuner and Innova in India, has established a new global sales record. In August, the company sold 900,598 vehicles worldwide, reflecting a modest 1% increase compared to the previous year. While global sales saw a rise of approximately 4% and reached a monthly record, demand in Japan experienced a decline of over 10%.

Throughout most of 2025, Toyota demonstrated strong growth. The company consistently reported robust sales and production figures. However, this momentum slowed in August. The world’s leading car manufacturer, typically resilient even amidst challenging conditions, faced setbacks in its home market.

Production figures mirrored the trend. August’s production increased by nearly 4% to 837,869 units. However, the weakness in the domestic market raises questions about whether Japan, traditionally a reliable market for Toyota, is grappling with shifting consumer preferences and a sluggish economy.

Conversely, Toyota showed strength in the United States. Sales of Toyota and Lexus models in the US increased by approximately 14% in August, significantly supported by the continuous demand for hybrid cars. Sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (EVs) also grew by 35%, exceeding 17,000 units globally, but Japan presented a different picture. Only 18 fully electric Toyotas were sold in August, indicating the domestic EV market’s slow progress. China, another major market for Toyota, remained relatively stable. While growth has become challenging for most foreign brands there, Toyota’s extensive range of hybrid cars provides it with a competitive edge.

The imposition of a 15% tariff by the United States on imported cars and parts has prompted Toyota to lower its profit forecast for the current year. The company now projects an operating income of 3.2 trillion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2026, down from the previous estimate of 3.8 trillion yen. This translates to a potential loss of around 1.4 trillion yen (US$9.5 billion). Toyota’s recent report points towards a delicate phase. While robust international demand continues to sustain the company, the decline in Japan highlights significant changes in consumer preferences and purchasing behavior.

Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, a film highly anticipated by youth audiences, has completed its opening weekend in theaters. Despite high expectations, the film appears to be underperforming at the box office. It has failed to make a significant impact, and future prospects seem challenging. The film’s performance is a far cry from the success of the earlier installments. Let’s examine Baaghi 4’s first-weekend earnings and what this means for the film’s overall performance.

Reports indicate Baaghi 4 collected ₹12 crore on its opening day. The second-day earnings were ₹9.25 crore, followed by ₹10 crore on the third day. Thus, the film, made with a budget of ₹120 crore, managed to collect ₹31.25 crore in its opening weekend. The gross collection in India amounts to ₹25.25 crore. Overseas, the film has not fared well, with an overseas collection of only ₹3.25 crore. The worldwide collection currently stands at ₹38.50 crore. The film has not even recovered one-third of its budget in its opening weekend, signaling potential trouble.

Apple’s annual sales in India reached approximately $9 billion (around 79,500 crore) in the last fiscal year. This record-breaking performance indicates a growing demand for Apple’s flagship devices among consumers. Revenue for the company increased by about 13 percent over the past 12 months. The primary driver of this sales growth is the Apple iPhone, with demand also rising for MacBooks. While the company saw a 4.4 percent increase in revenue from China in the June quarter, this was only the second time in two years that such growth occurred. Apple has lost market share in China due to competition from companies like Xiaomi.

Bajaj Auto experienced an increase in overall sales figures for August 2025. The company sold a total of 4,17,616 units last month, representing a growth of approximately 5% compared to…

Bajaj Auto experienced an increase in overall sales figures for August 2025. The company sold a total of 4,17,616 units last month, representing a growth of approximately 5% compared to the 3,97,804 units sold in August 2024. Sales also saw a positive increase compared to July 2025, when the company sold 3,66,000 units.

Despite the overall sales growth, the company faced a downturn in the domestic market. Bajaj’s domestic sales in August 2025 decreased by 8% to 2,32,398 units, whereas the figure was 2,53,827 units in August 2024. This decline was particularly evident in the two-wheeler segment, where domestic sales fell by 12% to 1,84,109 units.

Exports significantly bolstered the company’s sales. In August 2025, Bajaj Auto sold a total of 1,85,218 units through exports, a 29% increase compared to the 1,43,977 units sold the previous year. Two-wheeler exports, in particular, performed exceptionally well, reaching 1,57,778 units, a 25% increase.

The commercial vehicle segment proved to be a major support for the company in August 2025. Domestic sales in this segment increased by 7%, reaching 48,289 units. Exports performed even better, with a 58% increase, recording 27,440 units.

Overall, the CV segment’s sales rose by 21% to 75,729 units. August 2025 presented a mixed picture for Bajaj Auto, showing that while the domestic market is under pressure, the demand from global markets is becoming a new source of strength for the company’s growth.

In the first five months of fiscal year 2025 (April-August), Bajaj Auto sold a total of 18,94,853 units, which is more than a 2% increase compared to the 18,54,029 units sold in the same period last year. Although domestic sales decreased by 9% to 10,50,349 units, a 21% increase in exports balanced out this decline.

Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, has urged ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank to improve their performance in disbursing loans under welfare schemes aimed at assisting the state’s underprivileged population. During a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan, the CM highlighted the crucial role banks play in implementing welfare initiatives, particularly those focused on credit-linked schemes. He emphasized the importance of these loans for economic upliftment and job creation. Majhi cautioned the banks against continued underperformance, urging them to significantly increase lending to the poor. The banks’ poor performance in Odisha under schemes such as PMEGP, PM Swanidhi, Stand-Up India, and those for agriculture, housing, and education led to their removal from the state government’s empanelled list on June 21. Representatives from the banks responded positively, promising to enhance their performance and speed up loan disbursal.

Stellantis Group is reportedly considering the sale of its luxury brand, Maserati, as part of a broader restructuring of its portfolio. Discussions about the potential sale began before the appointment of the new CEO, Antonio Fliosa. Maserati has faced operational challenges, compounded by import tariffs and competition from Chinese brands, leading the company to seek solutions. Sources indicate that advisors are in the preliminary stages of assessing options, with a final decision pending. Maserati’s sales plummeted in 2024, recording a new low of 11,300 units and an adjusted operational loss of 260 million. With no new launches planned and recognizing the difficulty of managing numerous brands, Stellantis is evaluating all possibilities for Maserati’s future.
