Delhi High Court made headlines on Thursday by issuing key directives in the detention case of Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly’s brother, Major Vikrant Jaitly, in the UAE. Reviewing the government’s status report, the bench allowed Celina’s counsel extra time to submit an affidavit with updated information, signaling progress in the protracted legal battle.

For months, Celina has campaigned relentlessly for her brother’s access to lawyers and family communication from his UAE jail. ‘Proper legal assistance and dialogue are vital for him to know his rights and stay secure,’ she asserts. The matter returns to court on February 3.

In an emotional interview, Celina shared her hope: ‘February 3 is the next date. The judge will hear the case then. I’m optimistic—good news is coming for Vikrant. The nation prays for him and awaits his safe return. I urge the government and PM Modi: please get Vikrant back.’

Advocate Raghav Kakar was equally upbeat: ‘A major positive shift today. Time granted to uncover more facts—expect resolution by Tuesday. Great news for our side.’

Vikrant, a former Indian Army Major, moved to the UAE in 2016 for a job at Mattti Group. His September 2024 arrest, linked to security issues, left him isolated for over a year. Initially held secretly for nine months without contact, the family turned to the High Court after futile efforts. Celina’s petition accused authorities of opacity, leading to calls for Indian government action.

As public support swells, this unfolding saga spotlights consular support needs for Indians overseas. Will the upcoming hearing unlock Vikrant’s path home? Stay tuned.
