Tesla has introduced more affordable versions of its popular Model Y and Model 3 electric vehicles, aiming to reignite slowing sales figures. The new “Standard” trims offer a starting range of approximately 517 kilometers (321 miles) on a single charge. This strategic move comes at a critical time for the company, as it navigates an increasingly competitive electric vehicle landscape and faces challenges such as an aging product lineup and consumer boycotts. The updated models, priced under $40,000 for the Model Y and under $37,000 for the Model 3, feature a more minimalist interior, reduced audio systems, and less premium materials compared to their higher-end counterparts. Despite the price adjustments, the vehicles are still significantly above Tesla’s long-held promise of a $25,000 electric car. Investors showed a tepid reaction, with Tesla’s stock experiencing a notable decline following the announcement, indicating expectations that these new iterations may not significantly alter the company’s market trajectory.

Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, reported a significant performance in September 2025, achieving a major milestone. The company dispatched a total of 687,220 units during the month. This marks an 8% increase compared to the 637,050 units dispatched in September 2024 and a substantial 24% jump from the 553,727 units in August 2025.

Year-on-year, the company experienced a 19% growth, with 323,230 vehicle registrations completed in September. This period was particularly noteworthy for Hero MotoCorp as it surpassed the production of 125 million two-wheelers, making it the first Indian two-wheeler company to achieve this feat.

Motorcycles have always been a core component of Hero’s sales. In September 2025, the company sold 626,217 motorcycles, reflecting a roughly 5% increase from the previous year (597,529 units) and strong growth compared to August 2025 (501,523 units). However, there was a slight decline in Year-to-Date (YTD) sales, with 28,02,266 units sold this year compared to 28,57,090 units last year.

While motorcycle sales saw a minor dip, the scooter segment propelled the company’s growth. Hero dispatched 61,003 scooter units in September 2025, which is a 54% increase from September 2024 (39,521 units). YTD scooter sales also increased by 29%, reaching 2,55,506 units.

Hero’s EV subsidiary, Vida, also performed well in September 2025, registering 12,736 EV units. The EV market share grew from 4.7% last year to 12.2%. The demand for the Vida VX2 model, in particular, exceeded supply in several cities, bolstering the EV portfolio. GST reforms and the onset of the festive season further boosted Hero’s sales. The company launched 12 new or updated products in the last year, leading to increased bookings and dealership visits.

MG Motor India experienced a significant sales increase in August 2025, selling 6,578 vehicles, a 52% rise compared to the 4,323 vehicles sold in the same month the previous year. The Windsor EV continues to be a leading electric car in the country. Sales in August also saw a 5% increase compared to July. Additionally, the smaller MG Comet EV has also achieved a new record, with sales exceeding 21% in August. The company has expanded its reach by opening three new dealerships during August. This expansion has increased its presence across more than 90 percent of the country. The brand’s network now extends to over 543 sales and service centers across 270 cities. To strengthen after-sales service, the company has established service centers within a 15-kilometer radius, aiming to provide assistance to customers within 30 minutes.

After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car, the e-VITARA, is ready. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the company’s first electric SUV e-VITARA from Maruti Suzuki’s plant in…

After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car, the e-VITARA, is ready. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the company’s first electric SUV e-VITARA from Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat. Maruti Suzuki may launch it in India on September 3rd. Initially, it will be exported from India to approximately 100 countries. The e-VITARA is a significant launch as Maruti’s first electric car. In India’s electric car segment, companies like Tata, MG, and Mahindra already have a strong presence. The question arises whether Maruti Suzuki, launching its first electric car later than others, can compete with these companies.

Sales of electric cars in India are rapidly increasing. In July, a total of 15,423 electric cars were sold in the country, which is 93 percent more than last year. These electric cars include all types of models like SUVs, sedans, and MPVs, but SUVs have the highest sales. The EV segment is currently dominated by Tata Motors, followed by MG Motors and Mahindra in third place. Hyundai is in fourth place and BYD in fifth.

Tata Motors sells the most electric cars in the country. Tata has the largest EV portfolio in the country. Tata has EV versions of all its cars except the Altroz. The best-selling electric cars from Tata include models like the Punch, Nexon, Curve, Tiago, and Tigor, along with the recently launched Harrier. However, due to tough competition from MG and Mahindra last month, the market share in the EV segment decreased to 38% from 67% compared to last year.

JSW MG Motor India was in second place last month with sales of 5,061 units. Its market share increased to 32% from 16% compared to last year. The company’s electric portfolio includes Windsor, Comet, and ZS EV, while the M9 MPV and Cyberster electric sports car were also recently launched. In addition, Mahindra’s electric car sales in July were 2,810 units. Mahindra’s market share in the segment doubled to 17% from 8%. Mahindra BE6 and XEV 9e have further strengthened the company’s position in this electric segment.

The electric vehicle segment in India is very limited. Its growth is not as much as expected right now, with 15,000 units sold every month. However, the number is continuously increasing. The question now arises whether Maruti will be able to make a place in this segment. The answer is that the Maruti Suzuki e-VITARA is an SUV segment car, which is currently in the highest demand. It will compete with the Hyundai Creta EV, Windsor EV, and Tata Nexon EV, which are the best-selling electric cars, upon its launch in India. Maruti Suzuki is the largest car-selling company in the country. Maruti’s cars are considered reliable. Therefore, it is expected that people will like the e-VITARA like other cars.

The electric car from Maruti has not yet been launched in India. For now, this made-in-India electric car will be exported. It will be exported to 100 countries, including the UK and Japan. Maruti Suzuki could launch the e-VITARA in India next month, but it will take some time to hit the roads. Maruti has already said that it will not rush the launch of the e-VITARA. It is first working on the EV ecosystem in the country, such as expanding charging stations and service networks. Maruti already has a large network for ICE (petrol or diesel) cars in the country, which is spread from small towns to large metropolitan cities. Maruti will definitely be able to take advantage of the existing network to develop the EV ecosystem.

Speaking of the features of the Maruti Suzuki e-VITARA, it is available internationally in two battery packs: a 49 kWh unit and a 61.1 kWh unit. The smaller pack gives 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque with a front-wheel-drive setup, with a range of up to 344 km. The larger 61.1 kWh battery is available in two configurations. Front-wheel drive has 171 bhp and 193 Nm of torque and a range of up to 426 km, while the all-wheel-drive version gives 181 bhp and 307 Nm of torque and has a range of 395 km. Maruti may launch this model in India. The price will be revealed upon launch. In the UK, the price of this car is between 35.05 and 44 lakh rupees.

BMW Group India has become the first luxury car manufacturer in the country to deliver over 5,000 electric vehicles, marking a significant achievement in India’s premium EV market. To celebrate, the company inaugurated a 4,000-kilometer-long high-power charging corridor, spanning from Jammu to Madurai. This corridor features charging stations every 300 kilometers along major national highways and in key cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Madurai. The charging stations, in partnership with Statiq and ZION, offer capacities ranging from 120 kW to 720 kW and are strategically located near cafes, restaurants, and public spaces for customer convenience. The corridor is open to all electric vehicle owners, not just BMW customers.

In the first half of 2025 alone, BMW and MINI sold 1,322 electric vehicles, reflecting a 234% year-over-year increase. Electric vehicles now constitute 18% of BMW Group India’s total sales, with the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase leading the charge, followed by the flagship BMW i7. The brand currently offers customers access to over 6,000 charging points across the country. These points can be easily located and activated through the myBMW app, which also provides real-time charger status and filtering options based on capacity. Furthermore, BMW has introduced a charging concierge service, a first in the industry.

MG Motor India, under JSW, has seen its electric car, the Windsor EV, achieve record-breaking success. In July 2025, the Windsor EV recorded its best monthly sales with 4,308 units…

MG Motor India, under JSW, has seen its electric car, the Windsor EV, achieve record-breaking success. In July 2025, the Windsor EV recorded its best monthly sales with 4,308 units sold. This performance has propelled the car’s total sales to over 36,000 units since its launch, strengthening the company’s position in the segment. The robust sales have also boosted MG’s EV market share to 32% in the second quarter of 2025, a 4% increase from the previous quarter. During the same period, Windsor’s average sales increased by 17%, while the overall EV wholesale sales for the brand rose by 28%.

The MG Windsor EV distinguishes itself with a unique design, diverging from typical crossover designs. It combines elements of hatchback, MPV, and compact SUV styles. The front features a split lighting design with LED daytime running lights, projector headlights, and an illuminated MG logo. The side profile showcases flowing lines, large windows, alloy wheels, and blacked-out pillars on some trims, creating a floating roof effect.

The rear of the car incorporates connected LED tail lights, a roof spoiler, and a raked rear window, enhancing its styling. Inside, the dark color scheme with accent details elevates the cabin’s look, complemented by a panoramic glass roof. The MG Windsor EV is priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹13.10 lakh for the top-end Essence Pro, while the Windsor EV range’s ex-showroom price is between ₹14 lakh and ₹18.10 lakh. The car’s cabin is equipped with numerous premium features, including ‘Aero Lounge’ seats that recline up to 135 degrees.

The center console houses a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system for navigation and infotainment control. MG also offers a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option starting at ₹9.99 lakh, along with a per-kilometer fee, lowering the initial cost for buyers. All variants of the MG Windsor EV are equipped with a 38 kWh battery pack, delivering a maximum power of 134 bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. This EV offers a range of up to 331 kilometers on a single charge. The Pro variant features a larger 52.9 kWh battery pack, providing a range of 449 kilometers on a single charge, while maintaining the same power output.

The Windsor’s popularity can be attributed to its competitive pricing and the combination of premium features offered in this segment. Its attractive starting price and the BaaS option make electric vehicle ownership more affordable. The well-appointed cabin and reclining seats further appeal to consumers, while the crossover format is well-suited for families. The vehicle competes with cars such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 400, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Tata Curvv EV.

While the global EV industry grapples with China’s rare earth restrictions, India is surging towards record electric vehicle sales. Significant growth has been observed in every EV segment in India…

While the global EV industry grapples with China’s rare earth restrictions, India is surging towards record electric vehicle sales. Significant growth has been observed in every EV segment in India over the past seven months, from January to July. These figures demonstrate that despite China’s imposed restrictions on rare earths essential for the EV industry, India’s manufacturing and sales have remained unaffected. China imposed export restrictions on rare earth magnets on April 4th, critical components in EV production. China is the world’s largest exporter of rare earths. Indian industries have also faced the challenge of rare earth shortages but have successfully sought alternative solutions.

Electric car sales in India have been robust, with 14 companies selling a total of 90,639 units between January 1st and July 31st. This includes 7 Indian and 7 global companies. This represents a substantial increase compared to the 56,814 units sold in the same period last year. Furthermore, it has already achieved 91% of the previous year’s total annual sales of 99,634 units. The Indian electric passenger vehicle industry is expected to surpass this record by August.

The Indian electric two-wheeler industry has also experienced remarkable demand. From January to July 2025, a total of 7,08,905 units were sold, accounting for 62% of the record sales of 1.14 million units achieved in 2024. However, a 4% decrease in sales was recorded in July 2025, following three consecutive months of strong double-digit growth. This data is based on the latest figures available on the vehicle portal, as of August 2, 2025.

Additionally, the electric three-wheeler segment has seen improvements over the past seven months compared to the previous year. Between January and July 2025, a total of 4,30,845 units were sold, reflecting a 14% increase compared to the 3,77,640 units sold during the same period in January-July 2024. This figure has already reached 62% of the record sales of 6,91,302 units achieved in 2024.
