The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is introducing the Bronco Test, a new fitness assessment method, to elevate the fitness standards of the Indian cricket team. The drill, recommended by strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux and approved by head coach Gautam Gambhir, will complement existing fitness evaluations like the Yo-Yo test and the two-kilometer time trial. This decision comes after concerns about the fitness levels of Indian cricketers, particularly during the recent five-Test series in England, where some players struggled with the demands of long-format cricket. The Bronco Test, borrowed from rugby training, assesses stamina and cardiovascular endurance by requiring players to complete shuttle runs of 20, 40, and 60 meters in sequence, five times consecutively, without rest, totaling 1,200 meters. The target for Indian players is to finish the test in under six minutes. Preliminary trials have already been conducted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, emphasizing the need for cricketers, especially fast bowlers, to increase their running and reduce gym time. The inclusion of the Bronco Test is expected to contribute to the team’s overall fitness, crucial for maintaining high performance levels in the demanding modern game.

With the Shravani Mela just a week away, the Deoghar district administration is making all the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth experience for the devotees. The city of Baba is soon to resonate with the chants of ‘Bol Bam’ as pilgrims from far and wide embark on a journey of several kilometers on foot to reach Baba Dham. However, many are unaware of the ‘Dak Bam’ devotees, who complete the arduous 105-kilometer trek from Sultanganj to Deoghar in just 24 hours without stopping. Let’s delve into the specifics of Dak Bam in this article.

What is Dak Bam?

Dak Bams are Kanwariyas who undertake the challenging journey of 105 km from Sultanganj to Deoghar within 24 hours without any breaks during the Kanwar Yatra. This journey is considered extremely demanding because it requires continuous walking/running and there is no provision for rest. It demands extraordinary physical endurance and unwavering determination. This tradition is particularly popular in the Purvanchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand regions.

Dak Bam Kanwariyas Receive Special Facilities

Dak Bam Kanwariyas are provided with special facilities in Baba Dham. They have a separate queue for Jalabhishek and are given priority in performing the Jalabhishek. Other devotees also make way for them so that they can continue their journey to the Shivling without any hindrance. If a Dak Bam stops anywhere, their journey is considered incomplete.
