  • Stephanie Beatriz was in labour when she recorded ‘Encanto’ song

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Actress Stephanie Beatriz has shared she was in labour while she was recording a track for her movie ‘Encanto’ and was singing her lines in between contractions.

The actress was pregnant with her daughter Rosaline when she voiced Mirabel in the animated Disney movie and continued with a planned studio session for the song ‘Waiting On A Miracle’ despite going into labour, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Speaking on new Disney Podcast ‘Journey to the Magic’ hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, Beatriz said: “I was in early labour, but I didn’t tell anyone because the contractions were very far apart. But they were happening. I was also getting checked out all the time. My doctor was all over it – because I’m a little bit older and she was all over the pregnancy making sure I was going in for checks and everything.”

Beatriz said carrying on with work helped her conquer her anxiety about becoming a first-time mum.

She added: “If anything could have taken me out of the fear of having my first kid it was focusing on this job that I love to do. I love to work so much, I love telling stories and I don’t want that amazing part of myself to be sacrificed when it didn’t need to be.”

However, the actress shared she would have stepped away if she was having difficulties: “I know my own limits, and if I had said like I can’t breathe or I can’t do this or whatever and if I had been having contraction after contraction – I would sure as heck not do it.

“There were a couple of times, when we were in that booth where I was like I’m just going to look like I’m thinking about this for a while – while I feel my way through what’s happening with my body. All right let’s go!”

  • ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ is first Disney song to top Billboard Hot 100 in 29 years

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’, the surprise hit off the ‘Encanto’ soundtrack, has become the first song from a Disney movie to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since ‘A Whole New World’ from ‘Aladdin’ did it in 1993.It joins the ‘Encanto’ album itself as a chart-topper, as the animated film’s soundtrack remains atop the Billboard 200 chart for the third time in the last four weeks, reports variety.com.Some other stats Billboard pointed out: ‘Bruno’, solely penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, becomes the first Hot 100 chart-topper to have been written by a solo writer in more than four years, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ having been the last. It’s the first time a Miranda tune has topped the chart. And it’s only the second time a Disney song has reached the top, since ‘A Whole New World’ was the only one to ever do it previously. And it did this with close to no radio play, which is highly unusual for a chart in which spins play a considerable factor. The ascent of ‘Bruno’ made things hard on Adele’s ‘Easy on Me’, which was finally forced to relinquish the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 after a 10-week run at the top. ‘Easy on Me’ slipped to No. 2.

‘Bruno’, meanwhile, drew 34.9 million US streams which is more than twice as many as Adele’s long-running hit, but a paltry 1.5 million radio airplay audience impressions about 1/62nd the number of Adele’s radio power. Still, with a radio increase of 239 per cent for the week, it’s clear that at least a few more stations are starting to try ‘Bruno’ out for a spot in their playlists. The Nos. 3-8 songs from last week remain frozen in place, led by Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ at No. 3.Gayle’s song ‘abcdefu’ is at No. 8 on the Hot 100, just like last week, but its No. 1 for the fourth week on two key international Billboard charts, the Global 200 and the Global Excl. US chart. On the Billboard 200 album chart, ‘Encanto’ stayed on top with 115,000 album-equivalent units. That’s up 11 per cent from the previous week, and its best weekly total to date as the album continues to see increase in percentage week after week. Two albums debuted in the top 10: Youngboy Never Broke Again’s ‘Colors’, at No. 2, and country star Walker Hayes’s ‘Country Stuff: The Album’ at No. 9. The former’s album bowed with 79,000 album-equivalent units and the latter’s first full-length album since breaking out with ‘Fancy Like’ entered with 33,000. For Hayes, it’s the time in the top 10 on the album chart. In their third weeks out, the new albums by Gunna and the Weeknd fell one spot each, to Nos. 3-4, respectively. Meat Loaf’s ‘Bat Out of Hell’ was considered a possibility for returning to the top 10 in the wake of his death, but didn’t quite make the cut.

  • Lin Manuel-Miranda wanted musicals for Latino characters

    By IANS

Actor-filmmaker Lin Manuel-Miranda wanted to write musicals for Latino characters after fearing his ethnicity would prevent him from getting into the industry.

He said: “The only reason I started writing was because I loved musicals, but I couldn’t see a way in. I wanted a life in musicals but beyond ‘West Side Story’, I didn’t see one – not for Latino dudes. You can play any part you want in a school play, but in the real world you get put in a box.”

The three-time Tony winner went on to reveal that he wrote the musical ‘In the Heights’ – which is based on the New York neighbourhood Washington Heights that Lin grew up in and still resides in today – was written out of “fear”, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Speaking to Red Magazine, he said: “(‘In the Heights’) was really written out of fear. I wrote it because I wanted to write roles for Latino characters and I was writing it to fill a void.”

“I set it in the most musical place I know, which is Washington Heights, and I was inspired by the music that you would hear up here – salsa, merengue, hip hop and bachata.”

As well as being the composer behind the hit musical ‘Hamilton’, which utilises an all-black cast to retell the story of Alexander Hamilton – Lin opened up about working on the Disney film ‘Encanto’, which centres on a magical Colombian family and for which he has composed eight musical numbers.

He said: “I wanted to help put a huge Latino family on screen and to widen the doors in my own corner of the world. But it’s not some kind of grand academic thesis statement as much as it is keeping promises to your inner child.”
