Actress Claire Foy wins Emmy for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in ‘The Crown’
By ANI
WASHINGTON: Actor Claire Foy won a Creative Emmy Award for Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in ‘The Crown’, her second for the Netflix drama but in a different category.
As per Variety, she took home the trophy at the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards’ Creative Arts ceremony on Sunday for her return to Netflix’s ‘The Crown’.
Foy, who won the lead drama actress race in 2018 for her role of Queen Elizabeth II, appeared in the fourth season of the period drama series in a short flashback scene. But it was enough for voters to fall back in love with her performance. She also has a Golden Globe (from 2017) and two SAG Awards (from 2017 and 2018) for it.
However, this year, Foy was not on-site in Los Angeles to receive the award in person.
She starred in the hit series for its first two seasons before it jumped forward in time to the 1970s and 1980s and welcomed Olivia Colman in the role.
Colman has been twice consecutively nominated in the lead drama actress Emmy race, following Foy’s lead. She is currently up for that award this year, for her final turn as the Queen. Colman passed the role to Imelda Staunton for the final seasons of the series.
‘The Crown’ was tied with ‘The Mandalorian’ for the most nominations by a series this year with 24. Foy was nominated alongside Alexis Bledel and Mckenna Grace from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, Sophie Okonedo from ‘Ratched’ and Phylicia Rashad from ‘This Is Us’.

Emmy Awards to be held outdoors at L.A. Live’s Event Deck near usual venue
By ANI
WASHINGTON: A year after the Emmy Awards were held virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will now be held in person, albeit, not in the Microsoft Theater, where it usually takes place.
The Television Academy announced on Tuesday that it will opt for an “indoor/outdoor” model held at L.A. Live’s Event Deck, directly behind the Microsoft Theater. The organisation said that the space will better provide opportunities for “socially distanced audience seating.”
As per Variety, the organisation said that the Emmy ceremonies, both Primetime and Creative Arts, will be held on the Event Deck at L.A. Live, next to the Microsoft Theater — marking the second year in a row that the Emmys were not actually held inside the Microsoft.
In addition to the new venue, the Academy said that it is limiting its number of guests, despite having already mailed out invitations.
“Following discussions with health and safety experts for Los Angeles County and the Emmy ceremonies, the Television Academy has concluded that we must further limit the number of nominees attending the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 11 and 12 as well as the 73rd Emmys on Sept. 19,” the Academy said in a statement obtained by Variety.
“Although invitations have just been mailed out, nominated teams of three or more will now be limited to no more than four tickets per nomination,” the statement detailed.
“Unfortunately, this means not all nominees will be able to attend this year’s awards. We recommend those on nominated teams coordinate between themselves and identify how they will allot their four tickets before they RSVP,” the statement continued.
“In addition, the Television Academy and CBS have decided to host all ceremonies, including the Creative Arts, on the Event Deck at L.A. LIVE, directly behind the Microsoft Theater. This will provide an opportunity to utilize an “indoor/outdoor” setting and more socially distanced audience seating,” the statement added.
“The health and safety of our nominees is of paramount importance. Conversations are ongoing, and we will provide further information as it is available. The Television Academy appreciates everyone’s understanding as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 delta variant,” it concluded.
As per People magazine, the announcement comes just days after the Academy announced that the number of people allowed on the red carpet will be “very limited” out of an “abundance of caution and for the safety of Emmy nominees, guests and media.”
Much of the US has been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases due to the more contagious Delta variant of the virus.
As the summer months wane and fall approaches, public health experts fear that cases will only continue to rise, partially because of increased testing when students return to schools and universities. Meanwhile, the 73rd Emmy Awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, will air live on September 19 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on CBS and will be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Actor Cedric Antonio Kyles, better known by his stage name Cedric the Entertainer, will host the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards as the event returns to a live show this year. Organised by CBS and the Television Academy, the ceremony will be held on September 19, according to a press release. This will be the first stint of Cedric the Entertainer, star of hit CBS comedy series “The Neighborhood”, as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. “Since I was a little boy huddled up next to my grandmother, television has always been my reliable friend, so it is an enormous honor for me to host this year’s Emmy Awards,” said Cedric the Entertainer in a statement.
“Throughout the roller-coaster of a year that we have all lived through, television has helped us stay connected as a society like never before. It not only entertained us, but as it always has, it helped to open our eyes, educate us, and hopefully brought about a better understanding of who we are as a people. I can’t wait to take the stage to celebrate all of the great shows and performances that made us laugh, cry, dance and sing over the past year,” he added.
In its 2020 edition, Emmy telecast was the first of Hollywood’s major awards ceremonies to have a virtual format amid the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s telecast will return to a live, in-person Emmy Awards Ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre with a limited audience of nominees and their guests.
Emmy Award-nominated producers Reginald Hudlin and Ian Stewart will executive produce and Hamish Hamilton will direct the telecast for production companies Done+Dusted and Hudlin Entertainment.
Over the past year, television has united people as a community more than ever, bringing vital information and inspiring entertainment to viewers at a critical time, said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music, Live Events and Alternative Programming for CBS. “Now, who better to bring television audiences together to celebrate the industry’s top achievements than our very own King of Comedy, Cedric the Entertainer,” added Sussman.
Frank Scherma, Chairman and CEO of the Academy, said Cedric the Entertainer has been “a wonderful friend to the Television Academy and our Foundation”.
“…we are thrilled that he will bring his unique comedic perspective to the Emmy ceremony and telecast that marks our return to celebrating nominees and presenters live and in-person,” added Scherma.
“We are honored that CBS and the Television Academy have given us the opportunity to produce our fourth Emmys running and, once again, celebrate television’s biggest night with a live audience. We are equally excited to ‘get the band back together,’ for the second time, with the mega-talented Reginald and his crew at Hudlin Entertainment,” said Ian Stewart, Executive Producer and President, Done+Dusted.
Hudlin said he is very excited to be returning to the Emmys. “Last year, the restrictions of Covid freed me and the awesome talents at Done+ Dusted to do a show that was different than any other award show. We don’t plan on repeating ourselves, but we certainly want to try some new ideas that could only be done on the Emmys,” he added.
The 2021 Emmys will air on the CBS Television Network and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount Plus.

The announcement comes days after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) gave away the Golden Globe Awards.
The scaled-down virtual ceremony, which marked the beginning of the award season, was held bi-coastally from Beverly Hills, California and New York due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It is still unclear how the Emmys will be conducted in the wake of the ongoing pandemic and related safety protocols, which includes restrictions on live productions.
Last year’s edition was held on September 22 in a hybrid format — in-person and virtual, which was broadcast on ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel live from Staples Center here and most presenters and nominees joining in remotely from home.
CBS last hosted the Emmys as part of the broadcast networks’ deal in 2017, when Stephen Colbert presented the show.
