  • Sharon Horgan’s series Bad Sisters renewed for second season

    Bad Sisters, Dark-comedy murder mystery series, has been renewed for season two.  Sharon Horgan, the Emmy Award nominee and BAFTA Award winner, has created the series for Apple TV+. The first season with 10 episodes was widely received among the audiences.

    In a statement, Sharon said, “The response to our show has been beyond what we could have hoped for. It gave us the opportunity to shine a light on stories that don’t always get such a global platform. I look forward to getting chilly in the Irish Sea one more time.”

    Bad Sisters follows the lives of the Garvey sisters, who are bound together by the premature death of their parents and a promise to always protect one another.  “When their brother-in-law winds up dead, his life insurers launch an investigation to prove malicious intent and set their sights on the sisters, all of whom had ample reason to kill him,” the synopsis read.

    The ensemble cast is led by Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene and Eve Hewson. Claes Bang, Brian Gleeson, Daryl McCormack, Assaad Bouab and newcomer Saise Quinn round out the rest of the cast.

  • Barack Obama wins Emmy for narrating national parks series

    LOS ANGELES: Barack Obama is halfway to an EGOT. The former US president won an Emmy Award on Saturday to go with his two Grammys.

    Obama won the best narrator Emmy for his work on the Netflix documentary series, “Our Great National Parks”.

    The five-part show, which features national parks from around the globe, is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, “Higher Ground”.

    He was the biggest name in a category full of famous nominees for the award handed out at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmys, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, David Attenborough and Lupita Nyong’o.

    Barack Obama is the second president to have an Emmy. Dwight D Eisenhower was given a special Emmy Award in 1956.

    Barack Obama previously won Grammy Awards for his audiobook reading of two of his memoirs, “The Audacity of Hope” and “A Promised Land.”

    Michelle Obama won her own Grammy for reading her audiobook in 2020. EGOT refers to a special category of entertainers who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. To date, 17 people have done it.

    The late Chadwick Boseman also won an Emmy for his voice work on Saturday.

    The “Black Panther” actor won for outstanding character voiceover for the Disney+ and Marvel Studios animated show, What If.?” On the show, Boseman voiced his “Black Panther” character T’Challa in an alternate universe where he becomes Star-Lord from “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

    It was one of the last projects for Boseman, who died in 2020 of colon cancer at age 43.

    MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor is a fan of the superhero television series ‘The Boys’.As the third season of the Emmy nominated series awaits its premiere, Shahid paid homage to the series as he took to the streets of Mumbai to show his excitement for the series and unveiled a flaming stunt akin to Homelander, a famous character from the show during a promotional event for the show.The actor made a grand entry to the jaw-dropping b-boying moves of Kings United dance group performing to a foot-tapping, high-energy song. The daredevil actor then unveiled a curtained hoarding through an adrenaline-inducing stunt. The billboard had the image of the lead Supe from The Seven – Homelander, which shot out a laser targeting a nearby car.Speaking of the eye-grabbing super-hero-like stunt, Shahid said, “I absolutely love wacky, dark humoured and action-packed entertainment. When I first heard about ‘The Boys’, I was immediately intrigued. I am thrilled to present this brilliantly bizarre show in my own capacity in partnership with Amazon Prime Video.””This is my own little crazy ode to the genius makers.
