  • Hulu renews ‘The Great’ for season three

    LOS ANGELES: Hulu has announced that Elle Fanning-led critically-acclaimed series “The Great” will be returning with its third season.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, the announcement of the show’s renewal was made at Disney’s Television Critics Association winter press tour session.

    Created by Tony McNamara and also starring Nicholas Hoult, the period satire is about the rise of Catherine the Great (Fanning), from being an outsider to becoming the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history.

    The first season of the series premiered on Hulu in May 2020, before being renewed for season two.

    It saw Catherine in her youth and married to Emperor Peter III (Hoult), focusing on the plot to kill her depraved and dangerous husband.

    The second season, which debuted in November, focused on Catherine taking the throne as she struggles to bring enlightenment to the country.

    “The Great” also features Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Bayo Gbadamosi, Belinda Bromilow and Gillian Anderson.

    The show hails from Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television.

    McNamara serves as executive producer alongside Marian Macgowan, Mark Winemaker, Fanning, Hoult, Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, Josh Kesselman, Ron West and Matt Shakman. 

  • Seth Rogen, Elle Fanning to star opposite Dev Patel in ‘Chippendales’

    Elle FanningActors Seth Rogen and Elle Fanning will star opposite Dev Patel in the upcoming film Chippendales.Director Craig Gillespie, who helmed the 2017 Academy Award-winning film I, Tonya, is signed to direct the film. The ambitious production has been in planning for nearly twenty years.

    Chippendales is based on a real-life crime that shook the idea of the American dream. The story follows Steve Banerjee (Dev Patel), an Indian immigrant’s rise and fall in America as he sets up a strip club specialising in shows of female mud wrestling and exotic male striptease. The club, which gave a platform to the then famous “Chippendales” theatre group, takes a hit when Banerjee’s co-creator Paul Snider kills Banerjee’s playboy bunny girlfriend Dorothy Stratten, sending the protagonist into a downward spiral of legal battles.

    Fanning is in discussions to take on the role of Stratten, while Rogen is being considered for the part of Nick De Noia, the choreographer who came up with Chippendales routine.Lauren Blum and Rebecca Angelo are writing the final draft based on a previous draft by Craig Williams and Isaac Adamson. New Regency, Permut Productions and Bold Films will produce Chippendales.

    LOS ANGELES: Actors Seth Rogen and Elle Fanning are in negotiations to join the cast of “Chippendales”, based on a real life story.

    “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is on board to direct the movie, featuring “Lion” star Dev Patel.

    Patel, who was announced to headline the film in 2017, will play Steve Banerjee, an Indian immigrant who acquires the struggling LA club Destiny II and transforms it into a hotspot.

    The club, which gave a platform to the then famous “Chippendales” theatre group, takes a hit when Banerjee’s co-creator Paul Snider kills Banerjee’s playboy bunny girlfriend Dorothy Stratten, sending the protagonist into a downward spiral of legal battles.

    If deals close, the project would mark a reunion for Rogen and Gillespie, who just wrapped production on the anticipated “Pam and Tommy” series for Hulu, reported Deadline.

    Fanning is in discussions to take on the role of Stratten, while Rogen is being considered for the part of Nick De Noia, the choreographer who came up with Chippendales routine.

    Lauren Blum and Rebecca Angelo are rewriting the script after Craig Williams and Isaac Adamson penned previous drafts.

    “Chippendales” is backed by New Regency, Bold Films and Permut Productions.

  • Elle Fanning to star in Barry Levinson’s film

    Filmmaker Barry Levinson’s film about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s crime drama The Godfather has roped in actor Elle Fanning to the cast. Titled Francis and The Godfather, the movie will also feature Oscar Isaac, Jake Gyllenhaal and Elisabeth Moss.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, Isaac and Gyllenhaal will play The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola and former Paramount studio head Robert Evans, respectively. While Moss will portray Coppola’s wife Eleanor Coppola, Fanning has been roped in to play the role of actor Ali MacGraw in the movie.

    The movie will chronicle the battles between Coppola and Evans, which included taking a gamble on casting Marlon Brando, who had not had a hit in years, and a then-little-known Al Pacino. At the time, MacGraw was married to Evans.

    Francis and The Godfather is based on a script by Andrew Farotte that was redeveloped with Levinson. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather (1972) was based on author Mario Puzo’s bestselling novel of the same name. The first movie, starring Marlon Brando in the titular role, spawned into a film series with two sequels, which released in 1974 and 1990.

    The Godfather chronicles the life of Corleone family under patriarch Vito Corleone (Brando), focusing on the transformation of one of his sons, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), from a doe-eyed family outsider to a ruthless mafia boss. 

  • Elle Fanning now part of ‘Francis and The Godfather’

    LOS ANGELES: Filmmaker Barry Levinson’s film about the making of the celebrated crime drama “The Godfather” has added actor Elle Fanning to the cast.

    Titled “Francis and The Godfather”, the movie will also feature Oscar Isaac, Jake Gyllenhaal and Elisabeth Moss, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

    Isaac and Gyllenhaal will play “The Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola and former Paramount studio head Robert Evans, respectively.

    Moss will portray Coppola’s wife Eleanor Coppola.

    Fanning, 22, has been cast for the role of actor Ali MacGraw in the movie.
