As China braces for the Spring Festival exodus, electric vehicle traffic is set to shatter records with around 380 million trips forecast. This massive influx has prompted a nationwide push to upgrade charging networks, addressing a key pain point for the growing EV fleet. Electricity providers and highway operators are leaving no stone unturned.

Expansion is rampant on major arteries. Shandong’s service areas now boast 3,800+ charging points, up 30% year-over-year. In Jiangsu, State Grid has supercharged the network with over 3,500 piles—a 70% surge—and introduced 80 mobile units for high-traffic stretches. These moves are timed perfectly for the holiday crush.

Charging speeds have revolutionized the experience. New high-power setups at Yongguan Highway’s Leqing stop have multiplied supply capacity fivefold and hiked efficiency by 30%, per State Grid officials. Drivers’ average waits have plummeted from 90 minutes to less than 20, freeing up time for rest stops and family reunions.

Innovation shines in crowd control. Nantong’s smart platform tracks charger status live, preempting breakdowns. At Chilin’s busy hub, dual-side access via internal lanes optimizes usage, preventing backups. It’s practical problem-solving at scale.

This proactive strategy underscores China’s EV prowess. With festivals drawing hundreds of millions on the move, these enhancements ensure electric cars keep pace, reducing downtime and emissions.

In a bold stride for clean energy, China’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure has crossed the 2 million threshold, announced the National Energy Administration on Wednesday. This achievement positions the nation ahead of the curve in the global race for EV dominance.

As of late December 2025, the total stands at 2.092 million points, capable of powering over 4 million new energy vehicles. Public facilities number 4.717 million, complemented by 15.375 million private chargers, ensuring widespread availability.

Development emphasizes three pillars: swift expansion, operational upgrades, and extensive reach. The jump from 1 million to 2 million happened in a record 18 months, faster than ever before.

Efficiency gains are evident with public stations averaging 46.5 kW—up 33% year-over-year. Highways are nearly fully covered with 71,500 points in 98% of service areas, while rural electrification has reached completion in 19 provinces.

This network isn’t merely supportive; it’s a cornerstone of China’s vision for emission-free transport, setting a benchmark for the world.
