Honda, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has entered the electric motorcycle sector with the unveiling of its first electric motorcycle, the WN7, in Europe. The ‘W’ in the name signifies ‘Become Wind,’ reflecting the bike’s design. ‘N’ stands for ‘Naked,’ indicating its open streetfighter look, and ‘7’ represents its output category. Based on the EV Fun concept presented at EICMA 2024 in Milan, the WN7 marks Honda’s initial foray into the ‘fun’ segment of motorcycles. It is equipped with a fixed lithium-ion battery, offering a range exceeding 130 km on a single charge. A key highlight is its charging capability: with CCS2, it can charge from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes on a fast charger, and a full charge at home takes less than three hours. Honda claims the new WN7 motorcycle is as powerful as 600cc petrol motorcycles and offers the torque of 1000cc bikes. Its smooth and quiet performance with on-demand acceleration aims to redefine expectations associated with electric motorcycles. The WN7’s design, with its body creases and overall look, distinguishes it from other models in Honda’s existing ICE lineup. A 5-inch TFT screen in the dashboard’s center incorporates smartphone integration via Honda RoadSync, providing navigation, music, and call notifications. The WN7 represents more than just a model release. Honda has pledged to make all its motorbikes carbon-neutral by 2040 and aims for full carbon neutrality by 2050.

Royal Enfield has unveiled a glimpse of its production-ready Himalayan-E electric motorcycle, following prior testing in mountainous terrains. According to an older report, the bike’s prominent feature is its uniquely designed battery box, integrated into the chassis. While specific details about the Himalayan-E remain scarce, reports suggest the bike will incorporate Flax fibre composite bodywork. It’s also expected to feature a bespoke swingarm from Harris Performance. Royal Enfield aims to extend its presence in the EV market, as demonstrated by its 50 million Euro investment in Stark Future Sl, a Spanish off-road firm. The Himalayan-E, initially developed as a capability exercise, also led to the creation of a new wind tunnel test facility to optimize the range of its electric powertrain.
