BJP is confident of securing its government in Haryana, even as JJP and Congress has sought the governor’s intervention for a floor test of the Nayab Saini-led government. BJP is confident of support from several JJP MLAs.

Former BJP ally, Dushyant Chautala, has written to the governor demanding a floor test in the state assembly. In his letter, Chautala said that the recent resignations and withdrawals of support have left the ruling BJP alliance teetering on the brink of a minority status. Till a few months ago, he was deputy chief minister in the BJP-JJP alliance government in Haryana.

Similarly, Congress leader Bhupender Hooda also said he has sought time from the governor and would demand that an assembly session be called so that the Saini government would prove its majority on the floor of the House.Political temperature has risen in Haryana after three independent MLAs withdrew their support from the BJP government there. • Haryana Crisis: CM Manohar Lal Likely To Resign; Nayab Saini, Sanjay Bhatia Frontrunners For Top Post, Say Sources |

New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will resign from the CM post on Tuesday, sources said to Zee News Television. CM Khattar can contest Lok Sabha elections from Karnal. The alliance between BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in Haryana is on the verge of breaking as the two parties failed to finalise seat-sharing deal for the Lok Sabha elections. CM Khattar has convened an urgent assembly with party lawmakers and seven Independent MLAs in the state’s heart at 11.30 am today. However, souces say that JJP legislators will boycott the meet called by the CM.

Zee News TV souces said that Nayab Saini and Sanjay Bhatia are the two frontrunners for the CM post if Khattar steps down.

Speaking to reporters, Gopal Kanda, the MLA of the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) has claimed that the political alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). Speaking to ANI, Independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat voiced on Tuesday that the coalition is teetering on the edge, yet he assured that the independent MLAs backing the ML Khattar government will be the linchpin of its endurance.

“During my conversation with the Chief Minister just a day ago, we reaffirmed our allegiance to the administration spearheaded by CM Manohar Lal. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections were a key topic of our strategy session. It became apparent to me that the severance of ties with the JJP is underway,” said Haryana’s Independent MLA Nayan Rawat post his dialogue with the Chief Minister.

Nayan Pal Rawat secured his seat in the Haryana Legislative Assembly representing Prithla in 2019 as an Independent candidate. Echoing the sentiment, Independent MLA Dharampal Gonder confirmed the independents’ support for the BJP-dominated government.

Within the 90-seat Haryana Assembly, the BJP holds 41 seats and is bolstered by the backing of 5 independent MLAs, including HLP’s Gopal Kanda.

In a parallel development, sources reveal that the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) convened a meeting in Delhi, with discussions slated to occur at the abode of Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. These sources also divulged that the Deputy Chief Minister has relinquished the government motorcade, signaling a potential dissolution of the alliance.

In a notable shift, Brijendra Singh, erstwhile BJP MP from Hisar, Haryana, defected to the Congress on March 10 after resigning from the incumbent party.

Reflecting on the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP clinched victory across all 10 constituencies, while the JJP, allied with AAP, failed to make significant inroads in the 7 contests it entered.

The anticipation builds as the Lok Sabha elections are slated for the window between April and May of this year.

  • Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh soon to face Punjab-like political turmoil: Dushyant Chautala

    By ANI

CHANDIGARH:  Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Saturday took a jibe at the Congress over its affairs in Punjab and Chhattisgarh and said the party is bound to see a similar fate in Rajasthan.

Chautala lashed out at the oldest political party in the nation and stated that the party, which does not trust its leadership, cannot take steps for the country’s development.

While addressing the media persons here, Chautala said, “One can see turmoil in Chhattisgarh shortly. Looking at Punjab’s situation, it may also be seen in Rajasthan. It will be the last few steps towards Congress’ end.”

“The party who does not trust its leadership, cannot take steps for the country’s development,” he added.

The Haryana Deputy CM’s comments came days after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down from the chief minister’s post and Charanjit Singh Channi took over the reins of the state.

The speculation is rife that there is some commotion in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan governments as well and could see a change in leadership in the near future.

  • Why should Dushyant Chautala resign, did he frame farm laws? asks JJP chief Ajay Chautala

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief Ajay Chautala on Thursday hit out at the opposition parties and farmer outfits demanding Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala’s resignation, and ruled it out saying he neither framed the farm laws nor was a signatory to them.

Addressing his party workers in Panipat, the JJP chief said if they have to seek resignations over the laws brought by the Centre, they should do so from the 10 Lok Sabha MPs and five Rajya Sabha MPs from Haryana.

A group of farmers protesting against the farm laws held a protest and showed black flags to the JJP leaders when they were travelling in their vehicles to reach the venue.

Ajay Chautala also said that if resignations help solve the farmers’ issue, then resignations of all the 10 JJP MLAs including Dushyant Chautala were lying in his pocket and anybody who can get the issue resolved can take these from him.

The JJP leader was addressing the party meeting called to chalk out programmes for the birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal on September 25.

The JJP chief said that farmer union leaders and JJP’s political opponents have been demanding that Dushyant Chautala should resign.

“I want to ask for what should Dushyant Chautala resign? Did he frame these (farm) laws? Are his signatures there?” he said.

“If anybody from in Haryana had participation in this (legislation of the laws), they are 10 Lok Sabha MPs and five Rajya Sabha MPs from the state. If they have to seek resignation, they should do so from them. But they don’t ask for their resignations and only say Dushyant should resign,” he said.

All 10 Lok Sabha members from Haryana belong to the BJP.

The party also has three Rajya Sabha members, while the opposition Congress has one, while there is one Independent.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, and the farm outfits spearheading the stir against the farm laws have in the past sought that Dushyant Chautala should resign and his party JJP should withdraw support from the government led by the BJP which brought the farm laws.

  • Chautala promises action against officer for telling cops to ‘break farmers’ heads’

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Sunday disapproved of the remarks of an IAS officer caught on camera telling police to “break farmers’ heads” protesting in Karnal and promised action against him.

Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha, a 2018-batch IAS officer, was caught on camera telling police to “break farmers’ heads” during the farmers’ protest.

Deputy CM and JJP leader Chautala promised action against Sinha amid mounting opposition’s attack against the M L Khattar government over the Saturday lathi-charge on farmers and their demand of strict action against the magistrate.

“The 2018-batch IAS officer’s video has gone viral.

Using such a language by an IAS officer is condemnable,” said Chautala.

““I think during their training, officers are taught how to face such situations and how to maintain balance in their actions. But what he said clearly does not meet the ethical standards which are expected from such officers,” said Chautala, censuring the officer’s remark.

“The government will definitely take whatever action is deemed fit,” he said.

The deputy chief minister, however, also condemned the farmers’ violence, including stone-pelting at police, during their protest in Karnal.

“Do you support the kind of action which was seen from the other side?” he asked.

Referring to the Karnal incident, he said he was “saddened by the events” but questioned the ultimate motive of farmer leaders.

“I am saddened by the events, but I want to ask through the media where are those 40 leaders. After all, what is their ultimate motive?” he asked.

He also questioned why Haryana has been made the epicentre of protests.

Chautala asserted that there was “no insecurity or fear among farmers” over the farm laws but “some farm leaders and middlemen are fuelling the agitation using their shoulder.”

““They want to weaken Haryana’s agrarian economy, they want to break its system. They want to put Haryana under turmoil. Why this movement is not going to Punjab, Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh, why are the people of Haryana being provoked?”” he asked.

“Their aim is to destabilise the Haryana economy,” Chautala said.

He said “new mandis are being built in Haryana, crops are being procured at Minimum Support Price, what, after all, is the issue left here?” The JJP leader said the Centre is even open to amendments in farm laws, but despite that, the unions are not coming forward for talks.

“Unless the talks are held, no solution can be found,” Chautala said.

He also insinuated that the farmers’ agitation in Haryana will last till the Punjab polls.

“It will become clear in five months if this prolonged agitation is not because of the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab,” he said.

Reacting to allegations against him, SDM Sinha told reporters in Karnal that said he has not seen the viral video and he would check and comment later.

Farmers had already started pelting stone at many places and under the CrPC, there is a provision to use proportionate force, he added.

Chautala’s remarks against the SDM came amid the mounting attack on the Haryana government by the opposition and the farmer leaders with Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) demanding strict against the officer.

The SKM, an umbrella body of various farmers’ outfits spearheading the agitation, and opposition parties, upped their ante and claiming that the BJP-JJP government’s action against farmers was “pre-planned”.

Addressing a farmers’ mahapanchayat in Nuh in Haryana, senior SKM leader Yogendra Yadav said “the officer Ayush Sinha should be immediately dismissed from the service”.

Other senior leaders who addressed mahapanchayat in Nuh included Darshan Pal, Rakesh Tikait and Joginder Ugrahan.

On SDM’s order, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday said “this is unbecoming of an IAS officer” and wondered if lathi- charge on farmers was “pre-planned”.

“The action shows intentions of the government which seems to have made up its mind to beat the farmers,” Hooda said.

He also demanded an inquiry into the lathi-charge incident by a sitting or retired judge of the high court.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait, meanwhile, met some of the injured protesters in a hospital in Karnal and condemned the “brutal lathi-charge”, terming the SDM Sinha’s alleged order to hit farmers as “Talibani diktat”.

  • Haryana ex-CM O P Chautala to be freed from Tihar after Delhi government’s remission order

    By PTI
NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana chief minister O P Chautala, who is serving a 10-year prison term in a teacher recruitment scam case and is out on parole, will be freed from Tihar jail as the Delhi government has granted a six-month remission of sentence, officials said on Wednesday.

The 86-year-old Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president’s younger son and party leader Abhay Singh Chautala and grandson Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala expressed their happiness over the development.

The Delhi government passed an order on Monday granting a six-month special remission to those who have served nine-and-half years of their 10-year prison sentence to decongest jails in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the 86-year-old former chief minister has already served nine years and nine months of his sentence, he is eligible to get out of prison, officials said.

“Om Prakash Chautala was sentenced in 2013. He was on emergency parole since March 26, 2020, due to the Covid pandemic and was scheduled to surrender on February 21, 2021. However, his parole had been extended by the high court,” A senior Tihar jail official said.

As of February 21, he had two months and 27 days of jail time left which will now be counted as remitted.

He will be formally released whenever he surrenders before the jail authority, the official said.

“The Delhi government has passed an order regarding special remission of six months to convicts who are sentenced for 10 years and have already completed nine years and six months of custody, including regular remission.”

“Convicts who are sentenced for seven years or more but less than 10 years, and are left with only five months to complete the sentence will get remission of five months.

Convicts who are sentenced for five years or more but less than seven years, and are left with only four months to complete the sentence, will get remission of four months,” the remission order stated.

Similarly, those sentenced to three years or more in prison but less than five years and are left with only three months and those with one year or more sentence but less than three years and are left with only two months, will get remissions of three months and two months respectively.

Reacting to the development, O P Chautala’s younger son Abhay Chautala, said the Chautala family will always be grateful to the people for their “love and prayers in times of crisis.”

“Under his (O P Chautala’s) leadership, the INLD party will continue on the path shown by Chaudhary Devi Lal and fight for the peasants and weaker sections of the society,” Abhay Chautala tweeted.

When reporters in Panchkula sought Dushyant Chautala’s reaction about his grandfather’s imminent release from jail, the deputy chief minister said he learnt about the development through the media.

“It is a matter of happiness,” he said.

Notably, Dushyant Chautala floated the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in 2018 when the INLD split following a feud within the Chautala family.

Dushyant’s brother and senior JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala also expressed happiness over the development.

In a statement, he said Om Prakash Chautala “is our role model” and his struggle in life “is an example for all of us”.

O P Chautala, his elder son Ajay Chautala, and 53 others, including IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar, were convicted and sentenced in the case of illegal recruitment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in 2000.

They all were sentenced to varying jail terms in the case by a special CBI court in January 2013.

Kumar, the then Director of Primary Education in Haryana, had initially exposed the scam after he filed a plea in the Supreme Court.

Later, he was also found to be involved in the scam during a CBI probe.

Apart from the Chautalas and Kumar, Chautala’s former Officer on Special Duty Vidya Dhar and political advisor to the then Haryana CM Sher Singh Badshami were also given 10-year jail terms.

The others who were given 10-year jail terms are Madan Lal Kalra, Durga Dutt Pradhan, Bani Singh, Ram Singh and Daya Saini.

Apart from them, one convict was handed a five-year jail sentence and the rest 44 were given four years of imprisonment.

  • Those opposing unveiling of Devi Lal’s statute cannot be farmers: Dushyant Chautala

    By PTI
SIRSA: Those opposing the unveiling of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal’s statue cannot be farmers, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala asserted on Monday and said his great grandfather was a “messiah” for the agriculture community.

The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader’s remarks came after a group of farmers staged a protest when he was in the city for unveiling an 18-feet tall statue of Devi Lal at the Chaudhary Devi Lal University.

“If they oppose this, it shows they are not farmers. Chaudhary Devi Lal was a messiah of farmers,” Chautala, whose party is part of the coalition government with the BJP in Haryana, told reporters after the event.

He said that Devi Lal was an institution in himself, whose entire political life was devoted to the welfare of people, particularly the farming community.

When Chautala was in the city, a group of farmers held a protest against his visit.

Farmers, opposing the Centre’s three farm laws enacted last year, have been protesting at public functions of BJP-JJP leaders in the state.

While police managed to keep the protesters away from the event site which was inside the varsity, a handful of them managed to enter.

But they were stopped before they could reach the place where the statue, built using 300 tonnes of metal, was being unveiled.

Chautala reiterated that the farmers’ agitation is not now in the hands of farmers.

“But it is now in the hands of those who have got a type of employment of holding protests. ]And employment of that type, where every morning they hold black flags in their hands to protest. But they do not know what they are opposing,” he said.

Last week, while speaking to reporters in Chandigarh, Chautala had said the ongoing farmer agitation is not any more about the demands of the peasantry, but how to oppose the government and the ruling BJP-JJP alliance in Haryana.

Chautala had also said those associated with the stir were harbouring political ambitions.

A month ago, Chautala had said the intent of the 40 farmer leaders — spearheading the stir against Centre’s three new farm laws — is not to resolve the issue, but to serve their own interests.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of various farmers’ unions, is spearheading the protest against the laws.

In Sirsa, he reiterated that the farmers’ demands were mandis should run smoothly, and these are running very efficiently.

Their demand was that crops should be procured on minimum support price and this is also being done, Chautala said.

He also said the Haryana government has taken several steps and launched many schemes for the welfare of the farming community.

Farmers have been camping at Delhi’s borders since November last year demanding that the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 be rolled back and a new law made to guarantee minimum support price for crops.
