    Korba is known as the state capital. It comes under Bilaspur division and is a predominantly tribal dominated district, which also includes the protected tribes Korwa (Pahari Korwa). The district is covered with lush green forests. The forest areas are inhabited by tribals, which retain their distinct cultural characteristic Avam tradition. Korba is also known as the industrial hub of the state of Chhattisgarh. All the raw materials (coal and water) required for power generation are available in abundance in the district. 3650 MW power is produced from thermal power stations (NTPC, KTPS, BALCO and BCPP, DSPM, CSEB East, CSEB West) located in the district. Apart from these, there is a hydro electric power station located at Machadoli, Bango. Coal is available in plenty in the district, several important coal mines of Coal India Limited (SECL) are located in the district. In addition, the aluminum manufacturing company (Balco) is also located in the district. On May 25, 1998, Korba was granted district status. Korba is a tribal dominated district located in the north-central part of Chhattisgarh.
