  • Airlifted MP doctor back on his feet, says Hyderabad hospital treating him for COVID

    HYDERABAD: The condition of a 40-year-old COVID-19 stricken pulmonologis, who was airlifted here from Bhopal, has improved and he is back on his feet, the hospital treating him said here on Friday.

    Doctors at the Yashoda Hospitals said the doctor responded well to treatment despite extensive damage to his lungs due to COVID-19 initially.

    Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on April 19 instructed officials to arrange an air ambulance to send Dr Satyendra Mishra, working at a state-run medical college, to Hyderabad after his condition deteriorated at a Bhopal hospital.

    Dr Mishra had developed severe lung infection after testing positive for COVID-19.

    “Currently the doctor is off oxygen and undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation at our unit. we are glad that we helped our young colleague get back on his feet and that this was achieved without the need for ECMO (heart-lung machine) or lung transplantation,” Dr Srinivas Rajagopala, Medical Director, Lung Transplantation, said.

    Dr Mishra is a COVID-19 warrior afflicted in the line of duty and has helped innumerable patients affected with the infection over the course of the last year.

    He is an assistant professor at the pulmonary and tuberculosis department in the government-run Bundelkhand Medical College at Sagar (MP).

    HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old COVID-19 infected pulmonologist, who was airlifted to here from Bhopal, has extensive damage to his lungs due to the infection and is at a critical phase of his illness, a senior doctor at Yashoda Hospitals here said on Tuesday.

    Madhya PradeshChief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had asked officials to arrange an air ambulance to send Dr Satyendra Mishra, working at a state-run medical college, to Hyderabad after his condition deteriorated at a city hospital.

    The 40-year-old Dr Mishra had developed a severe lung infection after testing positive for COVID-19, the doctor treating him said.

    “Dr Satyendra Mishra, a young Covid warrior afflicted in the line of duty,has been admitted to the Centre of Excellence of Heart and Lung Transplant, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad.

    He has extensive damage to his lungs due to Covid-19, remains dependent on the ventilator with high oxygen requirement and is at a critical phase of his illness,” Dr Lingaiah Amidayala, Director, Medical Services, Yashoda Hospitals Group, said.

    Lingaiah said the hospital will try its best to help the doctor get back on his feet.

    Dr Mishra is an assistant professor in the pulmonary and tuberculosis department in government-run Bundelkhand Medical College at Sagar (MP) At around 5 am on Monday, Dr Mishra was taken to Bhopal, about 185 km from Sagar, by road after a green corridor was created with the help of police to facilitate hassle-free travel of the vehicle carrying him.

    Sagars BJP MLA Shailendra Jain had said the MP Chief Minister had directed officials to arrange the air ambulance after he was informed about Dr Mishra’s deteriorating health.

  • COVID-19-infected MP pulmonologist airlifted to Hyderabad; under observation, says brother

    SAGAR/HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old pulmonologist infected with COVID-19 was airlifted to Hyderabad from Bhopal on Monday morning for further treatment after an intervention by the Madhya Pradesh government, a doctor treating him in Sagar said.

    Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan asked officials to arrange an air ambulance to send Dr Satyendra Mishra, working at a state-run medical college, to Hyderabad after his condition deteriorated at a city hospital, a BJP MLA said.

    Dr Mishra (40) had developed severe lung infection after testing positive for COVID-19, the doctor treating him in Sagar said.

    Janmejay Mishra, brother of the ailing pulmonologist,said Dr Mishra was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad and is being supplied oxygen.

    “As he needs lung transplantation, he is presently kept under observation. Doctors told us that they will observe him for three days before taking a decision on the future course of treatment,” Mishra told PTI.

    He said doctors at the hospital had told him that his brother may be put on a ventilator on Tuesday.

    Dr Saurabh Jain, who was treating the ailing physician in Bhagyoday Hospital, a private facility in Sagar, said a team of doctors from Hyderabad reached the city around midnight on Sunday and examined the condition of Dr Mishra.

    Dr Mishra is an assistant professor in the pulmonary and tuberculosis department in government-run Bundelkhand Medical College here.

    The COVID-19 infection has severely damaged Dr Mishra’s lungs and he needs a transplant, he said.

    Sagar BJP MLA Shailendra Jain said the Chief Minister had directed officials to arrange the air ambulance after he was informed about Dr Mishra’s deteriorating health.

    Dr Mishra got infected with coronavirus during his duty in the COVID-19 ward of the medical college, the legislator said.
