  • Nine-member Congress panel to meet on September 14 to talk strategy

    Express News Service

NEW DELHI:  In a move to step up its attack on “anti-people policies” of the Centre, Congress is looking for a sustained agitational roadmap to build pressure on the government by roping in civil society groups, activists and youths in coming months.

A nine-member panel under Digvijay Singh, having party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a member, is scheduled to meet on September 14. There will be discussion on effective and innovative mass outreach programmes and strategy to target the BJP government on issues like price rise, monetisation plan, unemployment and farm laws among others.

The meeting comes days ahead of the opposition’s planned protest from September 20-30 and there will be discussion also on reaching out to other parties and getting them on the same platform to attack the BJP government. The committee will look at a plan to hit the ground with support of the party’s frontal organisation, intellectuals and civil society groups not having Right leanings.

“The committee will look at a sustained agitation roadmap to take pressing issues to the people. The party has been holding one day or two-day protests but those are forgotten. We need to continue with these agitations so that these are etched in the memory of people and build pressure on the government,” said a source.

    Poll yatra in Uttar Pradesh

The Congress under the leadership Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has decided to take out a 12,000 km yatra through UP before next year’s Assembly polls. The decision was taken at a meeting Vadra held with the party’s advisory and strategy committee.

  • ‘BJP selling away national assets like an unworthy son’: Digvijay Singh lashes out at Modi, Shah

    Express News Service

PATNA: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh accused the BJP of selling all the national assets which were raised and created by the Congress government in the last 70 years.

Criticising the National Monetisation Pipeline launched by Union finance minister, Singh who reached Patna on Thursday night, drew the comparisons between Congress and BJP as worthy and unworthy sons. “Congress government raised and created the national assets during its governance like a worthy son. These assets are now being sold off by the BJP like an unworthy offspring would under the guise of the National Monetisation Pipeline. All national assets, including railway stations railway line, airports, road and others, are being sold by this ‘unworthy son’ (BJP),” Singh said.

“When the country is passing through a difficult economic crisis how can I say Narendra Modi is a good prime minister? The BJP-led NDA governemnt is not for the people but for corporate houses.”

He said the BJP often claims that nothing has happened in the country in the last 70 years, the majority period of which was ruled by the Congress. “If nothing has happened in the last 70 years, what the central government is selling? That is the difference between worthy and unworthy sons, between the Congress and the BJP,” Singh said.

Stepping up his political attack at the Centre, Singh said that Both PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are proving disastrous for the country. He alleged that the hike in the rates of petrol and diesel is creating financial hardships for the common man.

Singh also blamed the Modi-Shah duo for constant disruptions in the Parliament. “The Congress party had always wanted to discuss the national issue in both the houses, but the BJP government differed from it. If these issues of inflation, unemployment and others are not discussed in Parliament, then where will it be done? The BJP is ruining the nation”, he alleged

“No discussion can take place in both the houses without their consent. That is why the Congress has decided that it will send its people to different provinces to speak on inflation, unemployment and national wealth.”

Lashing out at chief minister Nitish Kumar, Singh that the CM is under pressure from the Centre. “Now the political thoughts of legendary leaders like JP Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia are being removed from the syllabus by the state government,” he said.

On being asked about Nitish Kumar being projected as the ‘PM Material’, Singh said: “Had he (Nitish Kumar) been the PM material, he would have not gone in the political shelter of BJP. Kumar knelt before the BJP just to continue to stay in power.”

  • Congress should explain stand on Article 370, says Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad after Digvijay’s remarks

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday asked the Congress leadership to make its stand clear on the purported remarks of Digvijay Singh that his party will have a “relook” at Article 370 revocation if it returns to power, saying “time of silence is over”.

A row erupted on Saturday over Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s comments in an audio chat on social media that his party will have a “relook” at Article 370 revocation and Jammu and Kashmir’s lost statehood if it returns to power, with the BJP accusing him of spewing venom against India in “collaboration” with Pakistan.

“It is now more than a day when the central leadership of the Congress is maintaining a conspicuous silence on its stand about Article 370. Does the Congress want restoration of Article 370 as Digvijay Singh has indicated? Time of silence is over. Please explain your clear stand,” Prasad wrote on Twitter.

Singh had said, “The decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K is extremely, I would say, sad decision, and the Congress party would certainly have a relook on the issue.

Singh was responding to a question about the “way forward” on the issue “once the Modi government is gone” .

While abrogating Article 370, good governance was promised both in J&K and Ladakh.

The speed with which vaccination against COVID-19 is going on even in the remotest parts of J&K and Ladakh is a sign of pro-people good governance in the region, Prasad said in another tweet.

Singh’s remarks to a person, who the BJP said was a journalist of Pakistani origin, were seized by its leaders on Saturday to unleash a torrent of criticism against the opposition party and demand statements from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

  • ‘Stick to party lines on Article 370’: Congress to its leaders after Digvijay’s remarks spark controversy

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Saturday asked its leaders to follow the party’s stance on the issue of abrogation of Article 370 as articulated in the August 6, 2019 resolution of the CWC, after its leader Digvijay Singh’s remarks sparked a row.

“The decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K is extremely, I would say, sad decision, and the Congress party would certainly have a relook on the issue,” Singh purportedly said, according to excerpts of his clubhouse conversation available on social media.

He was responding to a question about the “way forward” on the issue “once the Modi government is gone”.

The BJP launched a scathing attack on Singh and top party leaders, accusing them of speaking “the language of Pakistan” and spewing venom against India.

“The Congress Party has clearly stated its position on Jammu and Kashmir, in its resolution of August 6, 2019 of the Congress Working Committee. This is the only official stance of the party.”

“I urge and request all senior leaders to refer to the same,” Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, when asked about Singh’s remarks.

The CWC resolution of August 6, 2019 had said that it “deplores the unilateral, brazen and totally undemocratic manner in which Article 370 of the Constitution was abrogated and the State of Jammu and Kashmir was dismembered by misinterpreting the provisions of the Constitution.”

“Every principle of Constitutional law, states’ rights, Parliamentary procedure and democratic governance was violated,” the opposition party alleged “The Indian National Congress pledges to stand with the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and to fight the BJP and its divisive and diabolical agenda with every power in its hands. We urge the people of J&K to maintain peace and calm,” it said.

The CWC “strongly reaffirmed the consistent and stated position” of the Indian National Congress that J&K, including the areas under the illegal occupation of Pakistan and the part ceded by it to China, are an integral part of the Republic of India.

The integration of J&K with India is final and irrevocable, it said, “The CWC firmly asserted that all issues pertaining to J&K are internal matters of India and no outside interference will be tolerated,” the resolution had further said.

Singh’s remarks to a person, who the BJP said was a journalist of Pakistani origin, were seized by saffron party leaders on Saturday to unleash a torrent of criticism against the opposition party and demand statements from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s comments in a clubhouse conversation that the revocation of Article 370 and stripping Jammu and Kashmir of statehood was an “extremely sad” decision and his party will have a “relook” at the issue have triggered a row, with the BJP accusing him of speaking against India and in agreement with Pakistan.

Singh’s remarks to a person, who the BJP said was a journalist of Pakistani origin, was seized by the saffron party leaders to hit out at the opposition party with its spokesperson Sambit Patra demanding statements from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

“The decision of revoking Article 370 and reducing the statehood of J&K is extremely, I would say, sad decision, and the Congress party would certainly have a relook on the issue,” Singh said, according to bits of conversation available on social media.

He was responding to a question about the “way forward” on the issue once the Modi government is gone.

As the BJP attacked him, Singh posted a tweet in Hindi in an apparent jibe at the ruling party.

“This bunch of illiterate people cannot probably differentiate between ‘shall’ and ‘consider’,” the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said.

Attacking him, Patra told reporters, “We have all seen how Digvijay Singh is spitting venom on India and speaking in agreement with Pakistan. This is the same person who had dubbed the Pulwama attack as an accident and described the 26/11 Mumabi attack as RSS conspiracy.”

The BJP leader cited old comments of other Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mani Shankar Aiyar, to allege that Singh’s remarks were part of a larger pattern of the party being “hand in glove” with Pakistan.

“This is all part of the toolkit which the BJP had exposed,” Patra said in a reference to a controversial document rejected as fake by the Congress.

The Congress would go to the extent of collaborating with China and Pakistan to spread “hate” against Modi and India, he alleged.

“The Congress should change its name from INC (Indian National Congress) to ANC, Anti-national Clubhouse. This is such a clubhouse whose members have begun hating India while hating Modi,” he alleged.

Patra asked Sonia Gandhi and Rahul to make their party’s stand clear on the issue.

He claimed that Rahul Gandhi is the leader of these Congress politicians, adding that Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan had used his criticism of Article 370 as part of his country’s dossier against India on the issue in the UN.

Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Kiren Rijiju were among other BJP leaders who targeted the Congress in their tweets over the issue.

Singh alleged, “Congress’s first love is Pakistan. Digvijay Singh conveyed Rahul Gandhi’s message to Pakistan. Congress will help Pakistan in grabbing Kashmir.”

  • In the Congress ruled Madhya Pradesh, after Urea crisis, now the public is hit by power shortage

It is rightly said where the Congress party put its step forward the problem starts emerging. In fact the name of the Congress party is Problem. The same is being witnessed in the states of MadhyaPradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan which has recently gone under the rule of Congress

Back to back, one after the other the people of state are facing the heat of various false promises made by the Congress Government

Already struggling with the Urea crisis, the state under the leadership of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath is now faced with another crisis. Now the state is witnessing a potential power shortage due to diminishing coal stocks in major power plants.

Four prominent power plants in the state are left with very little stocks of coal that would only last one to two days’ and any delay in its supply could lead to a power shortage, the sources claimed.

Although officers from the Department of Energy have said that the situation is not out of control yet as power plants are being supplied coal stocks in excess of the daily requirements and the department is also busy enhancing the coal supplies but the situation seems to be different and telling a different story

Four major power plants, including Singaji, Chachai (Amarkantak), Birsinghpur and Satpura, require around 60,000 metric tonnes of coal daily, and the problem arises from the fact that coal supplies are almost in the same range due to which the plants are not able to compile additional stocks.

Whatever quantity of coal these plants require they get from the central pool, but the central pool facilities have minimal stocks. So if the supplies are ever hindered for a day or two, the power generation could face a serious impact.

Power plant at Amarkantak has 49,580 metric tonne coal, Birsinghpur plant has 24, 940 metric tonne, Singaji plant has 30,855 tonne and the Satpura thermal power plant has 22,706 metric tonne left in stock. In all, these thermal power plants require 60,000 metric tonne coal per day to stay afloat.

Various public sector companies are supplying 15 to 20 racks of coal on a daily basis but there are probable chances of state getting into power crisis.

Earlier also during the Congress’ government with the tenure of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh MP had plunged into a deep power crisis after most power plants were pocketed by Chhattisgarh which carved out of the central state in 2000. With the season of Rabi, a winter crop, at its peak, the demand for power is now around 13,000 MW in the state.

The Congress had always attacked Prime Minister Modi on issue of farmer distress and made it a major political and electoral issue. But now when Congress has got power, the farmers of those states are struggling more. The same urea which was easily available in the BJP era at a nominal price is scarce in the state and being sold in black. At the peak time farmers are also facing power crisis. This shows the hypocrisy of Congress Government which only thinks about coming into power by hook and crook and later exploit the people
