  • Dhamtari district wins state-level power lifting competition, wins 15 medals

    The two-day Chhattisgarh State Level Power Lifting Women / Men Sub Junior, Junior, Senior, Master Competition was held at Lion Club Station Road Raipur. Dhamtari District Power Lifting Team Manager Sunil Nishad along with Women Coach Hashmeet Kaur participated in Chhattisgarh State Level Competition. Around 450 players from different districts of Chhattisgarh participated in this competition. In this, 20 players from Dhamtari district participated in this competition. In this, power lifters of Dhamtari district, women / male players captured the Total 15 medal on their own. In this, the players of the men’s category won 3 medals, 2 silver, 1 brown. Similarly, the women class players captured 12 medals, 8 gold, 3 silver, 1 brown medal and the title of Trophy of Chhattisgarh of Champion of Champion, Dhamtari district, once again became the head maiden.   • Two killed in accident near Gangrel dam

    Two youths were killed after their car overturned in Dhamtari district on Monday. Police said that they were speeding and lost control of the vehicle at a blind curve.

    The driver tried to save them by pressing the brakes, but the sudden jerk overturned the car killing one of them on the spot, and injuring the other grievously, said police.

    The two youths – Shishir, 22, and Rohit, 23 – had driven to Dhamtari from Raipur to attend a friend’s wedding on Sunday. Shishir is a resident of Bhilai and Rohit is from Raipur.They were on their way back to Raipur on Monday evening when they met with an accident near Gangrel dam at Maradev Road. Police said that their car skidded off the road, overturned multiple times due to the sudden brakes. Shishir died on the spot. The badly damaged car was found overturned 100 metres inside a field.

    Locals rescued Rohit who was still breathing and took him to a hospital where he died. Shishir’s mother fainted after seeing his mutilated body, said police. They were not prepared for the blind turn, said police. Residents claimed that they have complained about the blind turn near Gangrel dam multiple times as it is an accident-risk zone, but no one pays any attention. TNN
