The political storm in Delhi intensified as ex-Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel fiercely denounced the Delhi Police’s arrest of Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib. In a strongly worded social media post, Baghel demanded the unconditional and immediate release of Chib and his fellow activists, decrying the move as a blatant misuse of state power.

‘The arrest of IYC National President Uday Bhanu Chib and other young comrades by Delhi Police is illegal, and I strongly condemn it,’ Baghel wrote on X. He reminded the government that youthful dissent is the lifeblood of democracy, not a punishable offense. ‘Dictatorships suppress voices, but democracies amplify them,’ he added.

Detailing the context, Baghel noted that the activists had conducted a non-violent protest at the AI Summit in Bharat Mandapam, spotlighting the youth’s suffering under broken promises from the Prime Minister. What should have been hailed as democratic engagement has instead triggered police action, which Baghel called a direct attack on freedom of speech.

According to police reports, Chib was apprehended following the shirtless protest at Pragati Maidan, with heightened security at Tilak Marg station. The BJP has seized the opportunity to target Congress and Rahul Gandhi, but party spokespersons insist the demonstration was peaceful and justified.

Baghel’s call escalates the narrative of government overreach, urging the dropping of all fabricated charges and halting further crackdowns. As opposition voices grow louder, this clash highlights deepening divides over youth issues, protest rights, and the health of India’s democratic fabric. The coming days will test how far the ruling dispensation goes in responding to such criticisms.

New Delhi: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee erupted in anger on Thursday, blasting the BJP-led central government for detaining TMC MPs in what she called a direct assault on democratic…

New Delhi: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee erupted in anger on Thursday, blasting the BJP-led central government for detaining TMC MPs in what she called a direct assault on democratic principles. ‘India is a democracy, not the BJP’s personal estate,’ she declared, rallying her supporters against what she perceives as authoritarian overreach.

The drama began when a group of TMC parliamentarians, protesting outside Parliament, were taken into custody by security forces. Led by firebrand MP Mahua Moitra’s allies, they were highlighting Bengal’s unresolved issues, from central fund delays to alleged discrimination in disaster aid.

From the heart of Kolkata, Banerjee live-streamed her response, her voice laced with indignation. She recounted how her party’s MPs were peacefully demonstrating when ‘goons in uniform’ swooped in. ‘This is Modi’s India, where opposition is crushed,’ she alleged, referencing past instances of alleged vendettas.

Background checks reveal the protests stem from long-standing disputes. TMC accuses the BJP of withholding over Rs 1.2 lakh crore in dues, crippling development in opposition-ruled states. The detentions, lasting into the evening, prompted TMC to file complaints with higher authorities.

Opposition parties echoed Banerjee’s sentiments, with leaders from Congress and Samajwadi Party terming it ‘fascism in disguise.’ BJP countered, saying the actions were to maintain law and order amid unruly protests. ‘No one is above the law,’ a senior BJP spokesperson remarked.

Banerjee concluded her address with a call to arms: ‘Bengal will rise against this tyranny.’ As tensions simmer, this episode underscores deepening national divides. With polls approaching, expect more such skirmishes. Democracy, it seems, is the ultimate battleground.
