  • Delhi Weather Today: Relief From Heat As IMD Predicts Light Rain And Thunderstorms |

    New Delhi: The IMD has forecast light rain in Delhi on Friday, potentially offering respite from the scorching heat beating down on the national capital. 

    On Thursday, the maximum temperature recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker of the city, was 4.9 notches above normal at 44.8 degrees Celsius. 

    The Najafgarh weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. 

    Among Delhi’s other stations, Narela recorded a high of 45.3 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar 46.4 degrees, Ridge 46.3 degrees and Palam 45.8 degrees, the weather office said in a bulletin. 

    The national capital was under an ‘orange’ alert, which stands for “be prepared” during the day. 

    The relative humidity oscillated between 15 per cent and 58 per cent, according to the IMD bulletin. 

    It has forecast partly cloudy skies with a possibility of thunderstorms and light rain or drizzle in a few places towards the afternoon and the evening on Friday. 

    The IMD has also predicted heatwave conditions in some areas, accompanied by strong surface winds reaching speeds of 35 kilometres per hour on Friday. 

    The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 44 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively.

    Delhi and the national capital region including Noida today witnessed a sudden change in weather as thunderstorm and rain lashed parts of the region. This comes minutes after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate-intensity rainfall and gusty winds over the area of Delhi and the NCR between 7 to 10 pm tonight.

    The department raised an orange alert due to Hailstorm for districts named Hissar, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gurugram, Delhi, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur and Bulandshahar. while, the Red alert warning is raised due to hailstorms in districts including Baghpath, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar

    The regions including, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana, Karnal, Fatehabad, Rajaund and others going to face thunderstorms and rainfall.

    The department also forecasted a hailstorm thunderstorms, and rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh from April 26 to April 28, while Uttarakhand is likely to experience hailstorms, thunderstorms and rainfall over the region from April 28 to April 29.

    The IMD predicted lightning and moderate rainfall over the region of Northwest, Northeast and South peninsular India from May 3 to May 5.

    NEW DELHI: Delhi-NCR experienced another bout of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday, marking the second consecutive day of unexpected weather amidst bone-chilling winter temperatures. The downpour, which commenced on Wednesday morning, has led to road blockages and widespread waterlogging across the city, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents already grappling with harsh winter conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the inclement weather is expected to persist throughout the day today.

    IMD’s Weather Prediction

    According to the IMD, one weather system is currently traversing Delhi, bringing light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds to several areas. Another weather system originating from Rohtak and Jhajjar in Haryana is en route to Delhi, which is likely to bring another round of rainfall and thunderstorms within the next few hours.

    Impact Across the Region

    The heavy rains have affected various parts of the national capital, including RK Puram, Safdarjung, INA market, Sarai Kale Khan, and Lodhi colony, which witnessed substantial rainfall on Wednesday.

    Additionally, regions in the Western Himalayas, such as Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, have also experienced rainfall and snowfall, expected to continue over the next few days due to the influence of western disturbances.

    Regional Forecast and Outlook

    The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi has forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall in specific areas of Delhi and NCR, including Gurugram and Jhajjar in Haryana. Similarly, parts of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to witness light to moderate snowfall in the coming days.

    Earlier forecasts by IMD suggested scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Delhi, with isolated to scattered rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan between January 31 and February 1.

    Despite the challenging weather conditions, IMD has assured that no cold wave conditions are expected across the country in the next five days, providing some relief to residents amid the inclement weather.
