Delhi’s governance landscape shifted dramatically as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta enforced her iron-fist policy on corruption within the GST Department. A surprise raid on April 8 at the ITO State GST office exposed glaring absenteeism and procedural violations, prompting the immediate transfer of 162 personnel, including three Assistant Commissioners.

During the unannounced visit, Gupta was appalled by the empty desks of senior officers and operational bottlenecks affecting taxpayers. She mandated biometric check-ins across the board and warned that accountability chains up to the highest echelons. Public service delays, she stated firmly, would no longer be tolerated at any level.

The transfers encompass a broad spectrum: 58 Grade-1 Section Officers, 22 Grade-2 Assistants, 74 Grade-3 Senior Assistants, and 5 Grade-4 Juniors, all who had overstayed their tenures beyond three years. This strategic rotation aims to inject fresh energy and curb entrenched malpractices.

‘Responsible and transparent administration is our top commitment,’ Gupta affirmed. With promises of ongoing inspections, her administration vows to root out inefficiencies, ensuring the GST machinery runs smoothly for Delhi’s economic engine.
