A four-storey apartment block in Delhi’s Palam neighborhood became an inferno on Wednesday afternoon, prompting one of the largest fire responses in recent memory. The fire, which started on an unspecified floor, quickly escalated, enveloping the entire structure in flames and smoke.

Delhi Fire Services mobilized an impressive fleet of 25 fire engines to combat the blaze. Firefighters faced immense challenges navigating the smoke-choked stairwells and upper levels, but their perseverance paid off as they gradually subdued the fire. The operation highlighted the department’s readiness in handling high-rise emergencies.

Suspected electrical fault is the leading theory behind the outbreak, pending a detailed forensic analysis. Rescue operations were paramount, with teams pulling out residents who were gasping for air amid the fumes. Four victims suffered respiratory distress and were admitted to hospital; fortunately, all are out of immediate danger.

The neighborhood descended into pandemonium, with locals pouring out to witness the spectacle and lend support. Law enforcement played a key role in evacuating nearby buildings and restoring order. In the aftermath, officials announced an inquiry into compliance with fire safety norms, aiming to identify lapses that allowed the fire to rage unchecked.

As the site smolders, this event serves as a stark reminder of urban fire risks. Enhanced awareness campaigns and infrastructure upgrades are on the horizon to safeguard lives.

A devastating fire ripped through Delhi’s Nature Bazaar at Andheria Mor early Sunday, annihilating more than 50 shops and leaving traders reeling from massive losses. The handicraft hub, popular among locals and tourists, turned into a raging inferno around 6:30 AM, prompting an immediate emergency response.

As news spread, affected shopkeepers hurried to the scene, their livelihoods in ruins. One vendor shared, ‘I got a call from a neighbor saying smoke was billowing everywhere. By the time we arrived, half the market was gone.’ Fire services were alerted shortly after 7:30 AM, with the first tender from Vasant Kunj arriving promptly to combat the flames.

Leading the operation, Fire Officer Manish Sherawat reported a coordinated effort from several stations. ‘The fire is fully extinguished now, and miraculously, there were no injuries,’ he said. Damage estimates remain preliminary, but the scale suggests significant financial blow to small business owners.

Delhi’s fire-prone markets have seen a spate of such tragedies recently. On March 11 in Bindapur, 80 shanties burned down despite 28 tenders working through the night. Mansaram Park faced a similar scare on March 7, doused by eight vehicles without casualties. Experts call for stricter fire safety audits as these events highlight vulnerabilities in informal trading zones.

A catastrophic fire tore through Rithala’s slum dwellings in northwest Delhi before dawn on Thursday, fanning out to engulf surrounding residential complexes and an industrial unit. Alerted at 4:15 AM, fire services mobilized seven engines initially, but the fire’s ferocity over 2,500 square yards necessitated reinforcements.

On-site commander Fire Officer C.L. Meena escalated the response, sending extra tenders as the flames threatened more lives and property. Shanties were reduced to ashes, while the adjacent paper factory and nearby flats suffered significant structural damage—windows shattered, doors charred, and electrical systems fried.

Firefighters battled valiantly to contain the inferno, finally succeeding after prolonged efforts. Meena confirmed control over the situation, though assessments reveal heavy losses. Rescue operations continue, with police and civic teams securing the perimeter.

Residents recall the panic as smoke billowed thickly, forcing hasty evacuations. This comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s deadly fire in neighboring Ghaziabad, highlighting recurring vulnerabilities in urban fringes. Experts urge stricter enforcement of fire norms in slums, as probes into the spark—possibly a short circuit—get underway. The Delhi government has initiated damage surveys and aid distribution.
