    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: “Deadpool” actor Ryan Reynolds on Wednesday announced Hollywood star Hugh Jackman’s return as fan-favourite Wolverine in the third film in the franchise.

In a video uploaded on his social media platforms, Reynolds revealed that the “Deadpool 3” will hit the theatres in 2024.

“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now,” Reynolds says in the video referring to the Disney D23 Expo that happened earlier this month.

“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart,” he adds.

Reynolds says they “did have one idea” to make the film different from the previous two parts as he asks Jackman, who is walking in the background, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time? Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies.

The video ends with Deadpool logo getting sliced up by Wolverine’s claws.

“Deadpool 3” will be directed by Shawn Levy, who recently collaborated with Reynolds on ‘Free Guy’ and ‘The Adam Project’.

This film marks the anti-hero’s entry in Marvel Cinematic Universe, result of 20th Century Fox’s merger with Disney.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the first two ‘Deadpool’ films, have also penned the third installment.

Jackman, who played Wolverine on screen for 17 years, bid adieu to the character with the 2016 movie ‘Logan’, directed by James Mangold. Wolverine dies at the end of the film.

  • Hugh Jackman shares ‘Deadpool’ fan’s ‘career advice’ for Ryan Reynolds

    By PTI
NEW YORK: What happened when an “X-Men” fan had a chance encounter with Hugh Jackman? The admirer, who happened to be a New York City police officer, sent a message to Ryan Reynolds via the Wolverine star to cast Jackman in the third “Deadpool” movie, “even if it’s for a 10-minute cameo”, promising solid box office collections.

Officer Dobkowski is doling out incredibly smart career advice for @VancityReynolds. Sharing is caring. pic.twitter.com/r4LWBohQEM
    — Hugh Jackman (@RealHughJackman) May 1, 2021

Jackman, who is best known for playing the adamantium-clawed mutant Wolverine/ Logan in the X-Men films of the now Disney-owned Marvel Studios, shared the video of Officer John Dobkowski on his verified Twitter account on Saturday.

“Officer Dobkowski is doling out incredibly smart career advice for @VancityReynolds. Sharing is caring,” Jackman captioned the video on the microblogging site.

In the 34-second-long clip, Dobkowski said, “Hey Ryan, you’ve got to get this guy in ‘Deadpool 3’. Even if it’s for a 10-minute cameo, that would be awesome. That movie would be so cool, so great, it would blow the box office.”

The officer also jokingly threatened to give Reynolds a ticket if Jackman doesn’t show up in the film. Sometimes for comic relief, sometimes for extending support during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Jackman and Reynolds often put on a display of a “feud” on social media.

Jokes apart, Jackman has repeatedly said that he is not interested in returning as Wolverine, a role he played in the X-Men film series from 2000 to 2018, for which he holds the Guinness World Record for the “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero”.

  • ‘Deadpool’ turns 5: Read Ryan Reynolds’ response to fan who wants to become more ‘bad***’ like him

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds celebrated the fifth anniversary of his superhero franchise “Deadpool” by sharing a “lost” fan letter.

The 44-year-old actor, who plays the titular foul-mouthed superhero, shared the letter dated March 10, 2016, penned by a fan named Hunter.

“Five years later, I’m still in awe of Deadpool fans. Hunter wrote me this letter after #Deadpool came out and somehow my response never got mailed. Holds up. Mostly,” Reynolds’ wrote alongside photos of two letters typed on paper: one from Hunter and a reply from him, also dated March 2016.

In the letter, addressed to “Dear Mr. Deadpool”, Hunter asks for advice on being “more bada** like you.” In his response, Reynolds said “Commit to one thing. For me, it’s acting.”

The Canadian actor added that “acting and I are like Tom Brady and New England: together forever.”

The first “Deadpool” movie, produced by 20th Century Fox, came out in 2016.

The film was a huge success and was followed a sequel in 2018.

Deadpool was one of the few Marvel comic characters not owned by Disney, but after Fox’s merger with the industry giant, it has become a Marvel Studios property.

A third “Deadpool” movie is in the works with Emmy winning duo Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux attached to write the film.
