  • ‘Good Omens 2’ begins production in Scotland

    By PTI

MUMBAI: Production has begun in Scotland on the second season of the Amazon Original series “Good Omens”, starring award-winning actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant, who return in the leading roles of the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley.

Supporting Sheen and Tennant are many of the key cast from the first season, who return for the season with some reprising their roles, and others playing new characters.

A premiere date will be announced later.

Originally based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s international best-selling novel, the new season will explore storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the uncanny friendship between Aziraphale, a fussy angel and rare book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley.

Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.

Paul Adeyefa, Michael McKean, Gloria Obianyo, Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Reece Shearsmith and Nina Sosanya round off the returning cast.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to have the brilliant John Finnemore co-write this season’s story shenanigans with me, and to work with director and my co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon as he steers the ship, along with our astonishing crew, who have returned to do it again,” writer and co-showrunner Neil Gaiman said in a statement.

““Having a company of players reuniting for this second season of Good Omens is like bringing a family back together, this time in Scotland. Not only the cast, but also many of our Good Omens Season One crew have reassembled. Our team is being enriched with new talent on both sides of the camera so I am excited to be at the helm for six more episodes of what we hope will be heavenly entertainment,” co-showrunner and director Douglas Mackinnon said.

The new season is produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation, and Narrativia.

Gaiman continues as executive producer and will co-showrun along with executive producer Mackinnon, who will also return to direct.

Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing Pratchett’s estate, John Finnemore, and BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole will also executive produce, with Finnemore serving as co-writer alongside Gaiman.

LOS ANGELES: “Broadchurch” star David Tennant is the latest addition to the voice cast of “The Amazing Maurice” at Sky.

The animated feature is the big screen adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s book “The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents”.

For Tennant, the film marks his second project which is based on Pratchett’s novel after he starred in Amazon series “The Good Omens”.

The 50-year-old Scottish star joins Hugh Laurie, Emilia Clarke, David Thewlis, Himesh Patel, Gemma Arterton and Hugh Bonneville in the cast.

Besides Tennant, actors Rob Brydon, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Atherton, and YouTuber Joe Sugg have also boarded the film, Sky said in a statement.

Pratchett’s book, which was published in 2001, is part of his iconic Discworld series.

“The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents” is a take on the popular folk tale about the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

It won the Carnegie medal that recognises the best children’s book in the UK.

The story follows Maurice, a streetwise ginger cat who comes up with a money-making scam by befriending a group of self-taught talking rats.

When Maurice and the rodents reach the stricken town of Bad Blintz, they meet a bookworm called Malicia and their little con soon goes down the drain, according to the official plotline.

Toby Genkel and Florian Westermann will co-direct the film from a screenplay by Terry Rossio.

The movie is being produced by Sky, alongside Germany’s Ulysses Filmproduktion, Hamburg-based animation outfit Studio Rakete, Cantilever Media, and Sheffield-based animation company Red Star Animation.

It is being made with the support of the Pratchett estate and produced in association with Pratchett’s production company Narrativia.

The film will be released by Sky Cinema in the UK in 2022.

Terry Pratchett, who died in 2015, wrote 41 novels as part of the Discworld series.
