  • Brad Pitt’s ‘Bullet Train’ to release in India on August 4

    MUMBAI: Hollywood star Brad Pitt-led action comedy “Bullet Train” will hit the theatres in India on August 4, a day prior to its international release, the makers announced on Wednesday.

    The film, directed by “Deadpool 2” helmer David Leitch, also features actors Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry.

    In the movie, Pitt stars as the seasoned assassin named Ladybug, who wants to give up his life but is pulled back in by his handler Maria Beetle in order to collect a briefcase on a bullet train heading from Tokyo to Kyoto. Once on board, he and the other competing assassins discover that their objectives are all connected.

    The role marks Pitt’s first theatrical release since his Oscar-winning role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood”. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock will also be seen in a special role in the movie.

    Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release “Bullet Train” across theatres in the country in languages – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

  • Netflix bags worldwide rights for Will Smith-starrer ‘Fast & Loose’

    LOS ANGELES: Hollywood superstar Will Smith’s upcoming action thriller “Fast & Loose” has been acquired by streamer Netflix.

    Filmmaker David Leitch, known for movies such as “Deadpool 2” and “Hobbs & Shaw”, will direct the project from a script by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.

    According to Deadline, Netflix recently won worldwide rights to the action thriller after the project hit the market in February this year.

    Smith, 52, will star in the movie as a man who wakes up in Tijuana, Mexico, with no memories.

    As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives, one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

    Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce for 87North along with STXfilms and Smith through his Westbrook Studios.

    Jon Mone, Ryan Shimazaki and James Lassiter will also serve as producers.

    Smith will next feature in Warner Bros’ biographical drama “King Richard”.

    He is playing the role of Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.

    He will also star in the remake of the 1980s John Hughes classic “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” along with Kevin Hart.

  • Rawson Marshall Thurber confirmed to direct ‘The Division’

    Filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber has replaced David Leitch as the director for The Division, starring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal. Thurber, known for movies like Central Intelligence (2016), and Skyscraper (2018), will also pen the script with Ellen Shanman. Leitch recently exited the project over scheduling issues. However, the filmmaker will continue to serve as a producer on the movie.

    Based on the best-selling video game, The Division is set in a near-future where a pandemic virus is spread through paper money on Black Friday, decimating New York City and killing millions. By Christmas, what is left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, is activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.

    Chastain and Gyllenhaal will produce the movie through their banners Freckle Films and Nine Stories, respectively, alongside Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions and Thurber’s Bad Version.Netflix acquired film rights to the game after the package was put on the market back in summer 2019 following a heated bidding war for the property. Thurber is currently working on the streamer’s upcoming action feature Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds.
