  • Daniel Craig says no regrets about quitting James Bond role: “He’s not really dead”

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Daniel Craig recently opened up about quitting the James Bond role behind, not just this, the 54-year-old star revealed that he discussed killing the character with franchise producer Barbara Broccoli.

“No, none at all,” Craig said when asked by Martha Kearney on BBC Radio 4’s “Best of Today” podcast as quoted in a report by Variety. “I had an incredibly fortunate 17 years of my life making this. I literally want to spend the next 20 years of my life trying to unhook it all and try and put it into a place because it was incredible. I left it where I wanted it to be. And that I was given the chance to do that with the last movie.”

According to Variety, a US-based news outlet, when Kearney said that Bond had been killed off, Craig said, “He’s not really dead. I’m gone, but it says right at the end [of “No Time to Die”] that Bond will return, so he must return at some point.”

When Kearney asked about the character’s reimagining, Craig responded, “I don’t know if it sounds disingenuous, I said to Barbara a long time ago, back in 2006, ‘If I do all of these movies, and we get it right, can we kill him off,’ and she said, ‘Yes, you can.’ And I was thinking about myself, about my postponed career and I was trying to think of how that would work and but I was also thinking what they did with ‘Casino Royale’ – they had the chance to reset with that because they went back to the beginning. I thought you’ll have a chance to reset again. That kind seems to be like a good move.”

In response to how Bond appears to be killed off on an island at the climax of “No Time to Die,” actor Daniel Craig revealed to the British newspaper “The Times”, that “Real tragedy is when you have absolutely no choice. We had to find a way to make his death no choice. It was the happiest Bond had ever been because he’d found exactly what he was looking for. Like everyone on Earth, he was just looking for love.”

Craig has moved on to the Knives Out series, the second instalment of which, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” is available on Netflix starting December 23.

  • Ana de Armas: There’s no need for female James Bond

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Actress Ana de Armas, who played mysterious Paloma in Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 in ‘No Time to Die’, said she instead wants to see more substantial, deeper roles for women in the spy franchise. She told The Sun amid calls from some for Daniel’s Bond replacement to be of the opposite sex: “There’s no need for a female Bond. There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over.”This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at. That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. • James Bond revamped: Next film will take at least two years to start, says franchise producer Broccoli

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Charming and stylish British secret service agent James Bond won’t be returning to the silver screen for at least two years as the character is getting a revamp as per the franchise producer Barbara Broccoli, reports ‘Deadline’.

The producer told ‘Deadline’ at a star-studded private event in central London to honour Broccoli and her brother Michael G. Wilson for their BFI Fellowships, that it will be “at least two years” before the next 007 movie begins filming. She said that the task of finding an actor to replace Daniel Craig hasn’t begun “because it’s a reinvention of Bond”.

Broccoli wouldn’t be drawn on who would play Bond next but did offer an update on the decision-making process.

She said, “Nobodys in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

‘Deadline’ further stated that the night was a Bond love fest, peppered with warm-hearted and witty video messages from Bond luminaries, including Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench, Lea Seydoux, Rami Malek and Sam Mendes, director of ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’.

EON duo Broccoli and Wilson were presented their BFI Fellowships by Bond regulars Ralph Fiennes, who plays spy chief M, and Naomie Harris, who plays no-nonsense Miss. Moneypenny.

  • New Bond film smashes franchise takings record

    By AFP

LONDON: The new James Bond film, “No Time To Die”, broke the franchise record for opening-weekend takings, Universal Pictures said Tuesday, with Daniel Craig’s last outing as the eponymous hero netting £25 million ($34 million, 29 million euros).

The movie opened in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, and achieved Bond’s best-ever three-day domestic opening in its 60-year history.

It is already Britain’s biggest film release since the pandemic hit in early 2020, despite only being open for four days, sparking optimism of a revival for the beleaguered industry.

It has so far opened in 54 countries, including Germany, Spain, Brazil and Japan, grossing $121 million dollars, said Universal, making it the first Hollywood release to break $100 million without counting China among its opening markets.

The movie, which also stars Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas, launches in the United States on Friday.

Fans in Britain flocked to cinemas across the country over the weekend to catch the latest 007 adventure, 18 months later than planned, but to a host of positive reviews.

“It’s better than good. It’s magnificent,” The Times newspaper’s film critic Kevin Maher gushed, giving it a maximum five stars.

“Craig is a towering charismatic presence from opening frame to closing shot, and he bows out in terrific, soulful, style.”

However, the praise from critics was not universal and others disagreed about its length of two hours and 43 minutes.

  • Daniel Craig shares how he landed ‘Star Wars’ role

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Daniel Craig has talked about how he landed himself a cameo in the film ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

The 53-year-old actor, who’s making his final outing as 007 in ‘No Time To Die’, recalled how being on set for 2015’s ‘Spectre’ saw him take a shot and end up being cast by director J.J. Abram’s for role as a Stormtrooper, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Speaking at a BAFTA talk, Craig said: “I nearly gave up after that. What else am I gonna do?

“I think we were doing ‘Spectre’, and all of our crew were on Star Wars. Ben Dixon, who was our seconding, a great lovely man Ben Dixon, he was on was seconding and I kind of went to – I had to go into Pinewood to, I don’t know what I had to go to Pinewood for, to do some fitting or something.

“And I said to Ben, I said, ‘Part for me?’ And he was like, ‘Are you serious?’ I was like, ‘Yeah’. And he went, ‘I’ll go ask JJ’. And he came back and said, ‘Yeah’.”

Craig’s idea for his cameo was a “background” character, or a hidden role doing something clumsy in the background, but he ended up much more involved.

He said: “Thing was, I thought ‘background Stormtrooper’. I mean I wanted to do that guy that bumps his head in the original one, you know that person who drops his lightsaber or something.

“Then I was in a whole f****** scene, I was like OK! And we did the scene and then I just thought they’ll loop me, they’ll put another voice on it, you know, then I had to spend like three hours with JJ on a looping session like doing all the dialogues. Like really, you want me to do this? Get someone else to do this.”

The actor couldn’t quite believe his luck.

He added: “And I kind of went and said no way was I in ‘Star Wars’. I mean, I thought I was great to kind of play around with that and everybody kind of started hating on me ’cause I sort of said I didn’t like ‘Star Wars’ and I just was like, ‘Oh it was so stupid’.

“But it was amazing and I’m in the movie and Rian says when he saw the movie the first thing he did afterwards was he said, ‘Who was that f***** Stormtrooper?’ He said he knew it was somebody, whatever. It’s the way I walk, clearly.”

  • Daniel Craig reveals how he will feel when next James Bond is named

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Daniel Craig opened up about how he will feel when the next actor takes over the iconic James Bond role.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Craig is happy he was able to say goodbye to James Bond in his own way, which he did not think was going to happen.

In a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Craig said that for a while, he believed 2015’s ‘Spectre’ would be his final time playing to iconic secret agent.

“I thought that was it. And I’m really, really happy that I was given the opportunity to come back and do [No Time to Die],” the star said on the popular UK talk show, “because we’ve sort of wrapped up a lot of the stories. And just a chance to come do one more was wonderful.”

Bidding the legendary character farewell has been a bag of emotions, Craig said, noting that playing Bond was 16 years of his life.

“It’s been incredible to do these films,” he said. “It’s very emotional. I’m glad I am ending it on my own terms. I’m grateful to the producers for letting me do that. But I sure miss it. I’ll probably be incredibly bitter when the new person takes over.”

When Craig wrapped his fifth and final James Bond film back in 2019, he gave an emotional farewell to the cast and crew, which was taped and used in the new Apple TV+ documentary ‘Being James Bond’.

“A lot of people here worked on five pictures with me,” said Craig, holding back tears in the doc footage.

“I know there are a lot of things said about what I think of these films, but I’ve loved every single second of these movies. And especially this one, because I’ve got up every morning, and I’ve had the chance to work with you guys. And that has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” added the actor.

‘No Time to Die’ arrives in theatres on October 8.
