Former India batsman Ambati Rayudu also reached Chennai on Wednesday while the Tamil Nadu players in the squad will be joining a little later.

The camp is likely to get underway from March 9, CSK CEO K S Viswanathan said, adding the players who are available would take part in it.

“Yeah… the camp is likely to start from March 9. Whoever is available would take part in the training sessions,” he told PTI.

“The players will undergo five-day quarantine before they start training. Also, they will have to return three negative tests..,” he added.

The Indian players in the CSK will be a part of the camp, he said, adding they would be arriving in batches.

The schedule and venues for the 14th edition of IPL have not been confirmed yet.

CSK, during the recent mini auction earlier this year, picked up England all-rounder Moeen Ali for Rs 7 crore, apart from Karnataka all-rounder K Gowtham (for Rs 9.25 crore) and Cheteshwar Pujra (Rs 50 lakh).

It also roped in a few others including Tamil Nadu batsman C Hari Nishaanth, Harishankar Reddy and Bhagath Varma (all for Rs 20 lakh).

The team did not fare well in the last IPL, failing to qualify for the play-offs for the first time ever.

  • CSK official’s big statement on Suresh Raina, ’He will be with us for IPL 2021

Suresh Raina is all set to return for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, one of the CSK official has told them that Raina will make a comeback for the Men in Yellow in IPL 2021.

“He will be with us. There are no plans to part with him,” Mumbai Mirror quoted a top CSK official as saying. InsideSport independently could not verify the news. It is worth noting that if Raina is again picked by CSK – they will have to sign a new contract as the last contact between the southpaw and CSK has ended in October 2021 after Raina returned from UAE.

  • Former Tamil Nadu and CSK seamer Yo Mahesh retires from all forms of cricket

Vijaykumar Yo Mahesh, the former Tamil Nadu and Chennai Super Kings seamer, has retired from all forms of cricket a day before his 33rd birthday. He ends his career with 108 wickets in 50 first-class games to go with 93 wickets in List A cricket at an average of 24.67. His last competitive game was in August 2019, when he turned out in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). His last appearance for Tamil Nadu was a List A fixture against Assam in Chennai in September 2018.

Yo Mahesh was among the first Indian domestic players to enjoy IPL success, emerging as Delhi Daredevils’ highest wicket-taker in the inaugural season, with 16 strikes at an economy rate of 8.77. He then joined the Super Kings, and picked up three wickets in five matches, including a match-winning haul of 2 for 21 against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

Multiple injuries then put him out of action, but after getting his knees operated in London, Yo Mahesh returned to first-class cricket after five years in 2017 and helped Tamil Nadu snatch first-innings advantage against Mumbai with two wickets followed by a career-best 103 not out.

Rajkumar Sharma, a former Delhi first-class player but more famous for being Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, has been named the head coach of the Delhi senior team for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

  • Gaikwad doesn’t feel that CSK is out of the tournament

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad said the atmosphere in the dressing room is “pretty relaxed” and it does not feel like they are out of the competition.

CSK failed to reach the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs this season and are the bottom-placed team on the points table. However, the team defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets here on Thursday.

“Obviously looking to continue my form and win for the team, nothing else matters. Hopefully, we finish the tournament with a win and continue the momentum next year,” Gaikwad told teammate Shane Watson in a video posted by iplt20.com.

“Atmosphere is pretty relaxed. Does not feel we are out of the tournament. The atmosphere during the first game and during this game was the same. It helps a lot,” he added.Gaikwad also expressed elation over being able to bat with Watson and said “it was a dream batting with you.

”“It has been a privilege to see Ruturaj bat so incredibly well and so composed. For a young guy and at a big stage like IPL, to be able to bat like he has is very impressive. And to be able to take on guys like Pat Cummins, Ferguson and Sunil Narine,” Watson said.

  • Dhoni’s Super Kings lost by 10 wickets for the first time in IPL

Mumbai Indians on Friday defeated three-time winner Chennai Super Kings by 10 wickets in IPL-13. This is Chennai’s first 10 wicket loss in IPL history. She has never lost by 10 wickets before. Mumbai had stopped Chennai for 114 runs after losing nine wickets in 20 overs. Then Ishaan Kishan’s unbeaten 68 and Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 46 scored 12.2 overs without losing wickets. On the other hand, after the crushing defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) said, ‘Such a performance hurts. We have to see where the mistake happened. This was not our year. Whether you lose by eight wickets or by 10 wickets, it does not matter. It remains to be seen where we are at the moment in the tournament and that makes it sad.

  • 3 players you can pick as captain or vice-captain for today’s match

The most historic rivalry in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has another instalment, as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 41 at Sharjah.

Both teams faced off in the IPL 2020 season opener, in which MS Dhoni’s men pulled off a run-chase with relative ease. However, much has changed since then – while MI could move to the top of the points table, CSK are placed dead last and need a win to keep their qualification hopes alive.

One common factor that unifies the two teams is that they are both on the back of losses. MI played out two Super Overs against the Kings XI Punjab, with Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal condemning them to only their third defeat this year. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan suffered injuries in the game, and while the MI skipper is expected to be fit, the latter’s hamstring issue might be more serious than expected.

CSK were on the receiving end of a mauling at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals in their previous game, as Steve Smith and Jos Buttler led the 2008 IPL champions to a 7-wicket win. MS Dhoni spoke about giving the youngsters more opportunities in the coming games, and we might see CSK made wholesale changes to their playing XI.

  • He will be flying back,’ CEO says CSK player will play no further part in Indian Premier League 2020

Things haven’t gone to plan for Chennai Super Kings this season. They were big favourites ahead of Indian Premier League season 13. They were in the limelight as fans were excited to witness MS Dhoni back in action after more than a year. He also had announced his retirement from international cricket ahead of the tournament. However, things started on the wrong foot for the three-time champions. Several players and staff members were found to be Covid-19 positive during testing. Then star batsman Suresh Raina and experienced spinner Harbhajan Singh left UAE for India due to personal reasons. They won the first match against Mumbai Indians but things have been bumpy since then. CSK now sit in the last position in the IPL 2020 points table with only 3 wins from 10 matches. He is arguably one of the greatest cricketing brains to ever play the game. He can see things and assess situations which other players can’t and you can see, as the tournament progress, his forms getting better as well,” he added.

  • Dwayne Bravo is mentor to all young Chennai Super Kings bowlers,

“Bravo is massively important from two perspectives. He is an incredibly experienced cricketer. His ability to control in those middle overs, when we need some control (and) bowl to his field is wonderful to watch,” the former bowling coach of Indian team said ahead of CSK’s match against Mumbai Indians.

“The number of balls he bowls that go down the ground for one or to the square for one, he exactly knows what’s going to happen… is hugely important. And then the third component is the amount of mentorship he does for our bowlers. He does lot of talking, lot of advising,” Simons said.

However, there is room for improvement as far as CSK bowlers are concerned.

“There are certain lengths we would like to improve on, lines we would like to improve on and work on them all the time but we also very aware of the fact that this is a long tournament and we are not even near the halfway mark yet. And I feel, we are improving but we would like to give our batsmen less to chase,” he signed off.

Simons also waxed eloquent about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s marvellous effort against Royal Challengers Bangalore the other night.

“MS might look unorthodox but he is very effective, that’s the way he plays. He reads the game. He senses where the game changes. Against the RCB the other night, it was all about reading the game, understanding who were their key bowlers and who is going to target at the back end and that’s what MS is about,” the bowling coach said.

  • Kapil Dev Backs Ravichandran Ashwin’s Leg-Spin Bowling

Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner, has been bowling more of leg-spins these days and it is quite evident in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2018. Some have criticised his more-than-usual variations but India legend Kapil Dev has backed his leg-breaks. Everybody has a different bowling attack, depending on which pitch they are playing. But what we have come to know from the first or second IPL (till) now, is that the most successful bowler to come out is the leg-spinner,” Kapil Dev said. “Every team has their leg-spinner. Even a bowler like (Ravichandran) Ashwin, he likes to bowl more leg-spin than off spin. That shows the leg-spinners are more successful than anybody else,” he added.

Ashwin is leading Kings XI Punjab this season, after having turned out for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant in the past editions.

In the current edition of the T20 league, leg-spinners have been largely successful with Mumbai Indians’ rookie Mayank Markande shining in the first three games for his franchise.

SunRisers Hyderabad, too, have a good leg-spinner in Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, while his compatriot Mujeeb Ur Rahman is also a wrist spinner who plays under Ashwin.

Even the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore possess a successful leggie in Yuzvendra Chahal.

The 59-year-old former cricketer pointed out how a leggie like Karn Sharma had edged out experienced offie Harbhajan Singh for CSK vs Rajasthan Royals match on Friday.

“Karn is playing, not Harbhajan (Singh), so Chennai is playing with two leg-spinners (the other being Imran Tahir). So, everybody is there with an extra leg-spinner. I think that is where in spinners you don’t see so many off-spinners, you don’t see left-arm spinners so much, but you see leg spinners definitely,” Kapil added.

  • Watson Ton Helps CSK Register Comprehensive Win Over Rajasthan

Shane Watson starred with the bat, scoring a ton before bowlers completed the job as Chennai Super Kings registered a clinical 64-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals in Pune – the new home of CSK – on Friday.

Put into bat, Chennai Super Kings openers Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson put up 50 runs for the first wicket, with Watson being particularly aggressive. He was dropped in the first over as Rahul Tripathi dropped a sitter at first slip, something the Royals were made to pay for.

After Rayudu’s departure, Suresh Raina – who was returning after an injury – scored a blistering 46 off just 29 deliveries, with 9 boundaries as he put on a 81-run stand for the second wicket with Watson going big at the other end.

Royals did manage to fight back as leg spinner Shreyas Gopal got Raina, MS Dhoni and Sam Billings in quick succession. He was the standout bowler, picking 3/20 in his 4 overs.

But Royals didn’t have an answer to their former player, who was particularly brutal and was clearing boundaries at will. He hit six sixes and nine boundaries in his innings, and scored 104 off just 57 balls, at strike rate of 186.

Binny, Gowtham, Stokes and Unadkat all felt Watson’s force as CSK ended at 204/5.

For Royals to have any sort of a chance, they needed a bright start but CSK bowlers ensured that there weren’t any easy runs on offer.

Thakur removed Klaasen and Chahar picked up Rahane & in-form Sanju Samson as Royals were reduced to 32/3.

Buttler and Stokes did get together, to put up 45-runs for the fourth wicket to spark some sort of a contest but then Bravo got Buttler off a slower ball to extinguish all hopes.

CSK used 7 bowlers and almost all of them were among wickets with Chahar, Thakur, Bravo and Sharma picking two each while Tahir and Watson getting one each.

It was a comprehensive performance by CSK in what is to be their home ground for the remainder of the season
