  • Jaipur Police crack four-year-old’s rape-murder case

    JAIPUR: The Jaipur rural police on Friday claimed to have solved the rape and murder case of a four-year-old girl within 20 hours of recovering her body by assigning the task to over 700 policemen, according to an official.

    The victim had gone missing from her house on Wednesday evening and her body was found on Thursday in an isolated area near a water pond, around 3 km away from her house.

    Family members and villagers refused to take the body and started a dharna at a health centre under the Narena police station area in Jaipur rural on Thursday.

    Looking at the seriousness of the case, Jaipur Rural SP Shankar Dutt Sharma engaged all three additional SPs, five DSPs and 26 SHOs under him to solve it.

    “Along with them, 700 policemen were engaged in the case. Teams were formed and around 20 suspects were picked. It was a blind case with no clue or evidence and therefore it was a major challenge for us,” the SP told reporters at the Narena police station.

    The accused, Suresh Balai, was arrested within 20 hours of recovering the body, he said.

    Sharma said the accused is a resident of a village under the Narena police station and has been married for five years.

    He said it was a challenging task to identify the accused because there was no clue.

    The accused do not carry a mobile phone.

    “On Wednesday evening, he was on his way home when he saw the victim outside her house. He picked her and took near the pond where he raped and murdered her,” he said.

    When police were making efforts, hundreds of villagers gathered outside the health centre, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

    He said a 15-km area around the site of the incident was searched.

  • Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for child molestation in Uttar Pradesh

    BULANDSHAHR: A district court on Thursday sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for molesting a four-year-old girl last year.

    The court of the additional district judge, POCSO, also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the man, identified as Maroof of Gulaothi town.

    Maroof was arrested and sent to jail last year after he committed the act.

  • Two rape victims die in Haryana after four men force them to drink insecticide

    CHANDIGARH: Two minor sisters were allegedly raped and killed by four men who forced them to consume an insecticide at a village in Haryana’s Sonipat, police said on Tuesday.

    A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the law and all the four accused have been arrested, SHO of Kundli police station Ravi Kumar said over the phone.

    The accused, aged between 22 and 25 years, are migrant workers and lived in a rented room next to the girls.

    The girls aged 14 and 16 used to live with their mother, who works as a labourer.

    On the intervening night of August 5 and 6, the accused forcibly entered their home and threatened their mother.

    The four men raped the two sisters and they later made them consume an insecticide, the SHO said.

    As the condition of the girls started deteriorating, the accused asked their mother to tell the police that her daughters had been bitten by a snake.

    Kumar said the girls were rushed to a hospital in Delhi, where one of the two girls was declared dead by doctors and her sister died during treatment.

    “Fearing for her life, initially the mother of the girls had told hospital authorities too that the two sisters had been bitten by a snake,” the SHO said.

    “However, as we had suspicions, we questioned the woman intensely and she broke down telling the real story,” he said, adding that the postmortem report confirmed sexual assault and poisoning.

    He said the police swung into action immediately and the four accused were nabbed on Tuesday.

    In a separate incident, a 17-year-old girl from Gurgaon committed suicide, with her family alleging that a youth used to harass and stalk her.

    SHO of Pataudi police station Deepak Sandhu said the girl had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling at her home on August 6.

    He said her family had lodged a complaint with the police later alleging that a youth used to harass her.

    A case has been registered and further investigations are on, Sandhu added.

  • ‘Exorcist’ arrested for raping girl in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman

    BARDHAMAN: A self-proclaimed exorcist has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district, police said on Saturday.

    The incident took place on Friday evening when the survivor’s mother took her to the accused’s house in Ulara village in Memari police station area for exorcism as she was ill for a few days, an officer said.

    As per the complaint lodged by the survivor’s mother, the accused took her daughter to a room on the pretext of curing her but instead raped the minor, he said.

    The accused was produced before a court, which remanded him to five-day police custody, the officer said.

  • Teenage boy held for raping seven-year-old girl in Maharashtra

    THANE: An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old daughter of his neighbour in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

    The accused had also threatened family members of the victim against approaching the police, an official said.

    The alleged incident occurred on the June 24 night in Chinchpada area of Rabale after the accused asked the girl to accompany him to a marriage function.

    He took her to an isolated godown and sexually assaulted her, the official said.

    The accused was arrested on Friday while he was planning to flee to Nepal and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

  • Teacher thrashed, tonsured for harassing teen student in Madhya Pradesh

    INDORE: A 24-year-old private school teacher in a village in Indore in Madhya Pradesh was thrashed, tonsured and paraded with his face blackened for allegedly stalking and harassing a Class VIII student and writing her a love letter, police said on Sunday.

    A video of the incident, which took place in Khedi Sihod village on Saturday, went viral after which the teacher was arrested under IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act provisions, Manpur police station in charge Hitendra Rathod told PTI.

    “The teacher is accused of stalking the girl, who studies in the same school where he teaches, and he had recently sent her a love letter. The accused also threatened the 15-year-old girl that her family would face the consequences if she rejected his advances,” Rathod said.

    The official said the mob that beat up the teacher and paraded him with a tonsured head and blackened face has also been booked and those involved were being identified.

  • Three held in Madhya Pradesh for killing teen girl after failed rape bid

    TIKAMGARH: Three men were arrested for allegedly killing an 18-year-old girl after she resisted their rape bid, police in Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh said on Sunday.

    Accused Nilesh, Anil and Ramkishan Lodhi, all in the 20-25 years age group, lived close to the victim, who was found dead on June 21, Jatera police station in charge Bajnath Sharma said.

    “After her post mortem report on Saturday revealed that rape attempts were made on her, we started a probe and arrested the three accused. She was out to answer nature’s call when the trio waylaid her and tried to rape her. When she resisted their attempts, the three strangled her and dumped her body in the thicket close to a hill,” he said.

    The three have been charged with murder among other offences, Sharma informed.

  • 12-year-old mentally-challenged girl gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh

    BANDA: A minor mentally-challenged girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped here, police said on Sunday.

    The 12-year-old victim had gone to a marriage function Thursday night, from where she went missing.

    She was found in an unconscious condition here Friday night, SHO, Kotwali Police Station, Bhaskar Mishra said.

    Citing a complaint lodged in this regard, he said two unidentified men abducted the girl, and then raped her.

    The officer said rape was confirmed in the medical report of the girl.

    Mishra added that a case of abduction and gang-rape has been registered against the unidentified culprits and efforts are on to arrest them.

  • Hapur teen, allegedly abducted, raped, found dead outside Noida hospital

    NOIDA:  A 14-year-old girl was found dead in an ambulance outside a hospital in Noida where she was abandoned by two unidentified people, days after being allegedly abducted from Hapur district and gangraped, officials said on Friday.

    The Noida Police has launched a probe into the matter, while the Hapur Police is separately investigating the case based on a complaint from her family, according to officials. The Class X girl had gone missing from Hapur on March 22 and two people had brought her to a private hospital in Noida on March 31 where they left her in an ambulance, a senior official said.

    The duo then left the spot on the pretext of getting money from an ATM kiosk, the official added. However, they did not return after which the hospital staff alerted the local Sector 24 Police Station in Noida, the official said.

    Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said upon examination, the girl was declared dead by the hospital doctors and the body was taken into police custody. CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby locations has been examined to identify the people who had brought the girl to the hospital and left her there, he said, adding further investigation was being carried out.   • Man sentenced to death in Uttar Pradesh for raping 10-year-old girl

    FIROZABAD: A special POCSO court here on Thursday sentenced a man to death for raping a 10-year-old girl in December 2020, disposing of the case in a ‘record’ three and a half months.

    Additional Sessions Judge Mridul Dubey, heading the special court set up under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, sentenced the accused, Neeraj, a resident of a village under Jasrana police station, to death after convicting him of the offence of rape.

    Additional Government Counsel Ajumed Singh Chauhan said the offence was committed on December 14, 2020, when Neeraj had lured the girl to a desolate place in his village and raped her.

    After hearing both the prosecution and defence counsel, the POSCO court gave its verdict in “record time”, the ADGC added.
