In a stunning display of resilience, Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 202 propelled the West Indies to an extraordinary draw against New Zealand in the first Test at Hagley Oval. His monumental innings, complemented by Kemar Roach’s undefeated 58, defied the hosts and secured a historic outcome for the Caribbean side. The West Indies achieved their highest-ever fourth-innings score in Test cricket, a remarkable 457/6, showcasing incredible batting prowess. Greaves’ career-best double century marks him as only the seventh player in Test history to achieve such a feat in the final innings of a match. Pace bowler Kemar Roach, at 37, also etched his name in the record books with his best Test innings of 58 not out from 86 appearances. His solid support was crucial as Greaves navigated the challenging Christchurch pitch for 282 minutes. Roach’s all-round performance was further highlighted by a first-innings 5/78, making him the fourth-oldest player to claim five wickets and score a half-century in the same Test. Shai Hope also contributed significantly with a century, scoring 140 before being dismissed. The West Indies ultimately fell 74 runs short of a record-breaking chase, but their performance shattered expectations. A crucial moment saw Kemar Roach given a lifeline after a caught-behind appeal was turned down, with replays indicating a faint edge. This resilience, alongside Greaves’ heroics, ensured the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

The India vs England 4th Test concluded in a draw, with India mounting a remarkable comeback to salvage the match. England maintains a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth and final Test, but Shubman Gill and his teammates retain the opportunity to level the series. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar displayed exceptional composure, remaining unbeaten until the end. India faced early setbacks in the second innings, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks, yet a strong recovery was spearheaded by a partnership between KL Rahul (90) and Shubman Gill (103). The Indian batsmen put the England bowlers under immense pressure, showcasing resilience and determination.

Washington Sundar scored his maiden century (101), while Ravindra Jadeja also contributed a magnificent century (107).

In the first innings, India set a target of 358 runs, with significant contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), KL Rahul (46), Sai Sudharsan (61), Rishabh Pant (54), and Shardul Thakur (41). During the first day of the 4th Test, Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after being struck on the foot and was subsequently escorted off the field, later diagnosed with a toe fracture, which was expected to keep him out for six weeks. However, Pant showed incredible grit by returning to bat on the second day, even scoring a half-century.

England, in contrast, dominated with the bat, amassing a formidable total of 669 runs, securing a lead of 311 runs. Despite the challenge, India’s young team, led by experienced players such as KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, demonstrated resilience and a fighting spirit, which sets up for an exciting final test match on July 31 at The Oval.
