  • Covid curfew extended for another week in Uttarakhand, Char Dham yatra opened for locals

    DEHRADUN:  The Uttarakhand government on Monday extended the Covid curfew in the state till June 22 but announced some important relaxations such as opening the chardham yatra for locals on the condition of a negative RT-PCR test report.

    The period of the current curfew in the state was to come to an end at 6 am on Tuesday morning.

    “We have decided to extend the curfew for another week to June 22 in view of the COVID-19 situation.

    The old SOPs will largely remain in force except a few major changes such as opening the doors of the Himalayan temples for locals with negative RT-PCR reports,” Cabinet Minister and state government’s official spokesman Subodh Uniyal said.

    “People of Chamoli district now have the permission to visit Badrinath temple for ‘darshan’ if they have a negative RT-PCR test report. Similarly, people of Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts can also now visit Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri respectively with a negative RT-PCR test report,” the minister said.

    The famous four Himalayan temples in Uttarakhand though open since May for daily prayers have been out of bounds for pilgrims.

    Revenue courts have also been reopened with certain restrictions, he said.

    Means of public transport like auto rickshaws and tempos have been allowed to ply on the roads and shops selling sweets can now open for five days in a week, Uniyal said.

    Fifty people can now attend marriage ceremonies and funerals instead of the present permission for 20.

    However, those attending weddings will have to bring a negative RT-PCR test reports.

    District Magistrates have been authorised to relax the restrictions for market places in rural areas based on their assessment of the Covid situation, he said.

    On the decision to extend the curfew, Uniyal said the cases of COVID-19 may have come down but it would be premature to say that the pandemic challenge has been overcome.

  • Curfew in Himachal extended with more relaxations

    SHIMLA: The Covid curfew in Himachal Pradesh has been extended with several more relaxations till further orders, an official spokesperson said here on Friday.

    The buses within the state will ply with 50 per cent occupancy and shops will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm from June 14, he added.

    The decision to extend the curfew was taken on Friday in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

    The curfew will continue from 5 pm to 5 am in the state till further orders, the spokesperson added.

    Intrastate public transport will be allowed with 50 per cent occupancy and the timing of opening of shops has been increased from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday.

    Earlier the shops were allowed to open from 9 am to 2 pm.

    However, the shops except those of essential commodities will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

    It was also decided that the offices will function with 50 per cent of staff from Monday, the spokesperson said.

    All the medical colleges, ayurvedic colleges and dental colleges will open from June 23.

    Pharmacy and nursing schools will open from June 28.

    Now there will be no requirement of RT-PCR negative tests for entering in the state, the spokesperson added.

  • COVID-19: Night curfew likely in Bhopal, Indore, says Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

    BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that night curfew might be imposed in Bhopal and Indore from Sunday or Monday in view of spurt in coronavirus cases in these two districts.

    He said this during a meeting held on Friday evening to review the coronavirus situation in the state.

    “Look at the rise in infection cases.Tough measures will be taken to flatten the curve. Night curfew might be clamped in Bhopal and Indore from Sunday or Monday,” Chouhan was quoted as saying in an official statement.

    The chief minister said that people coming to the state by air, trains or roads from neighbouring Maharashtra, where there is a spike in cases, should be thermally scanned.

    During the meeting, ways to restrict the influx of people from Maharashtra were also discussed, the statement said.

    Chouhan also instructed the officials to ensure that COVID-19 rules are strictly followed by people to prevent the spread of the virus.

    On Friday, 603 new COVID -19 cases were reported in Madhya Pradesh.

    Indore, the worst-hit district in the state by the pandemic, saw 219 new cases, taking the caseload there to 61,642, Bhopal witnessed 138 fresh cases, which pushed its total count to 45,079.

    Indore has so far reported 940 deaths and Bhopal 621.

    There are 1,528 active cases in Indore, while the state capital has 806 such cases.
