  • COVID-19: New cases fall below 10,000 for fourth time in February

    NEW DELHI: The daily new infections fell below 10,000 for the fourth time this month taking India’s tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,09,25,710, while fresh fatalities remained below 100 for the tenth time this month, according to Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.

    A total of 9,121 new cases were reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 1,55,813 with 81 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,06,33, 025 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.32 per cent, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.43 per cent.

    The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 1.5 lakh.

    There are 1,36,872 active coronavirus infections in the country which comprise 1.25 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

    India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

    It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

    According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 20,73,32,298 samples were tested till February 15 with 6,15,664 samples being tested on Monday.

    The 81 new fatalities include 23 from Maharashtra, 13 from Kerala and 10 from Punjab.

    A total of 1,55,813 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 51,552 from Maharashtra followed by 12,425 from Tamil Nadu, 12,267 from Karnataka, 10,893 from Delhi, 10,233 from West Bengal, 8,704 from Uttar Pradesh and 7,163 from Andhra Pradesh.

    The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

    “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.

  • India records 11,649 new COVID-19 cases, 90 deaths

    NEW DELHI: India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,09,16,589 with 11,649 new infections being reported in a day, while the daily deaths were recorded below 100 for the ninth time this month, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

    The death toll increased to 1,55,732 with 90 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,06,21,220 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.29 per cent, while the COVID-19case fatality rate stands at 1.43 per cent.

    The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 1.5 lakh.

    There are 1,39,637 active cases of coronavirus infections in the country which comprise 1.28  per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

    India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

    It went past  60 lakh on September 28,70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

    According to the ICMR, 20,67,16,634 samples have been tested up to February 14 with 4,86,122 samples being tested on Sunday.

  • India’s daily new COVID-19 cases continue to show steady decline, recovery rate at 97.2 per cent

    NEW DELHI: India’s COVID-19 daily new cases continues to manifest a sustained downward trend with only 9,110 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday.

    As per the health ministry, the low number of daily cases and rising recoveries have ensured a sustained fall in the active cases as it has dropped to 1.43 lakh (1,43,625) today.

    “India’s total active caseload has also dropped to 1.43 lakh (1,43,625) today. The active caseload now consists of just 1.32 per cent of India’s total positive cases,” the ministry said.

    Total cumulative recoveries stand at 1,05,48,521 today with 14,016 patients recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours. The difference between the recovered patients and the active cases continues to progressively grow and it is pegged at 1,04,04,896 today.

    “With a consistent rise in cumulative recoveries, India’s recovery rate has reached 97.25 per cent, one of the highest globally. UK, USA, Italy, Russia, Brazil and Germany have lower recovery rate than India’s,” it said.

    India’s average daily deaths also continue to sharply decline. From a high of 211 in the second week of January 2021, average daily deaths have reduced to 96 in the second week of February 2021, registering a decline of 55 per cent.

    “India’s case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.43 per cent is amongst the lowest in the world and the global average is 2.18 per cent,” the ministry said.

    According to the health ministry, as on February 9, 2021, till 8:00 am, nearly 62.6 lakh (62,59,008) beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise.

    Out of these, 5,482,102 are healthcare workers and 7,76,906 are frontline workers.

    During day 24 of the vaccination drive, 4,46,646 people (HCWs – 1,60,710 and FLWs- 2,85,936) were vaccinated across 10,269 sessions. 1,26,756 sessions have been conducted so far.

    81.2 per cent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in six states and UTs.

    Kerala has reported the maximum number of single-day recoveries with 5,959 newly recovered cases. 3,423 people recovered in Maharashtra in the past 24 hours followed by 550 in Bihar, the ministry said.

    9,110 daily new cases registered in the last 24 hours. 81.39 per cent of the new cases are from six states and UTs.

    “Kerala continues to report the highest daily new cases at 3,742. It is followed by Maharashtra with 2,216, while Tamil Nadu reported 464 new cases,” it added.

    78 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. Less than 100 deaths have been reported since the last 4 days.

    Five states and UTs account for 64.1 per cent of the new deaths. Kerala saw the maximum casualties (16). Maharashtra follows with 15 daily deaths, while Punjab reported 11 deaths.

  • 147 districts recorded no new COVID-19 infections in last seven days: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan

    NEW DELHI: At least 147 districts in the country have not reported a case of COVID-19 in the last seven days, informed Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

    During the 23rd meeting of the High-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19, the Union Minister said: “In India, 147 districts have not seen a COVID-19 case in the last seven days, 18 districts in the last 14 days, six in the last 21 days, and 21 districts have not registered a case in the last 28 days.”

    During the meeting, the Health Minister also expressed satisfaction at the country’s performance to combat COVID-19, stating that “Our fatality rate continues to be the lowest in the world at almost 1.44 per cent and 1,03,73,606 people have recovered from the virus, taking the recovery rate to nearly 97 per cent.”

    He further informed that the country has 15,473 dedicated hospitals, health care facilities, and COVID-19 care centers with 19,00,714 beds and 12,673 quarantine centres.

    On the ongoing coronavirus vaccination programme, he said, “We have completed 42,674 sessions of vaccinations all over the country. As many as 23,55,979 people have been administered the COVID-19 vaccines so far and 3,26,499 health workers have received the vaccines in the last 24 hours.”

    “The total number of cases in the country stands at 1,07,01,193 and in the last 24 hours, the country recorded 11,660 cases. Currently, 70 per cent of the current cases are from Maharashtra and Kerala. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have slightly more than 500 cases and the rest of the places have less than 500 cases,” he added.

    Updating the GoM on the United Kingdom (UK) variant found in India, he mentioned that 153 cases have been diagnosed in the country and all the protocols to keep these cases under surveillance and in isolation are being followed.

  • India records 11,666 new Covid-19 cases, 123 deaths

    NEW DELHI: India’s COVID-19 tally of cases crossed 1.07 crore with 11,666 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, while the national recovery rate climbed to 96.94 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

    The total infections have mounted to 1,07,01,193.

    The death toll increased to 1,53,847 with 123 daily new fatalities,  the data updated at 8 am showed.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,03,73,606 pushing the national COVID-19 recovery rate to 96.94 per cent.

    The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44 per cent.

    The COVID-19 active cases remained below 2 lakh for the ninth consecutive day.

    There are 1,73,740 active coronavirus infections in the country which comprises 1.62 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

    India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

    It went past  60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on  October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

    According to the ICMR, 19,43,38,773 samples have been tested up to January 27 with 7,25,653 samples being tested on Wednesday.

    The 123 new fatalities include 32 from Maharashtra, 20 from Kerala, 10 from Punjab and 9 from Delhi.

    A total of 1,53,847 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 50,894 from Maharashtra followed by 12,333 from Tamil Nadu, 12,207 from Karnataka, 10,829 from Delhi, 10,139 from West Bengal, 8,636 from Uttar Pradesh and, 7,152 from Andhra Pradesh.

    The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
