  • India reports 26,964 cases of COVID-19, active tally in country lowest in 186 days

    NEW DELHI: India logged 26,964 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,35,31,498, while the active cases declined to 3,01,989, the lowest in 186 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

    The death toll climbed to 4,45,768 with 383 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

    The ministry said that the active cases comprise 0.90 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.77 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

    A reduction of 7,586 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

    It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

  • India reports 26,115 new COVID-19 cases, 252 deaths in last 24 hours

    NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday reported 26,115 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

    The nationwide tally has now reached 3,35,04,534, while with 252 new fatalities the death toll stands at 4,45,385.

    The active cases have declined to 3,09,575, which is the lowest in 184 days, and now comprise 0.92 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020.

    With 34,469 recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours, the cumulative recoveries have climbed to 3,27,49,574.

    The national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 97.75 per cent.

    The weekly positivity rate at 2.08 per cent has remained less than 3 per cent for the last 88 days now while the daily positivity rate is reported to be 1.85 per cent. It has been less than 3 per cent for the last 22 days.

    India has substantially ramped up its COVID-19 testing capacity wherein over 55.50 crore tests have been conducted so far.

    According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 55,50,35,717 samples were tested for COVID-19 up to 20th September 2021. Of these, 14,13,951 samples were tested yesterday.

    Meanwhile, under the nationwide vaccination programme, a total of 81,85,13,827 vaccine doses have been administered so far of which 96,46,778 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

  • India logs 30,773 new COVID-19 cases, 309 fresh fatalities

    NEW DELHI: With 30,773 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a single day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,34,48,163, while the active cases declined to 3,32,158, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

    The death toll climbed to 4,44,838 with 309 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

    The active cases comprise 0.99 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.68 per cent, the ministry said.

    A reduction of 8,481 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

    As many as 15,59,895 tests were conducted on Saturday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 55,23,40,168 The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.97 per cent.

    It has been less than three per cent for last 20 days The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.04 per cent.

    It has been below three per cent for the last 86 days, according to the health ministry.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,26,71,167, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.33 per cent.

    The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive has exceeded 80.43 crore according to the ministry.

    The 309 new fatalities include 143 from Kerala and 80 from Maharashtra.

    A total of 4,44,838 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 1,38,469 from Maharashtra, 37,587 From Karnataka, 35,310 from Tamil Nadu, 25,085 from Delhi, 23,439 from Kerala, 22,887 from Uttar Pradesh, and 18,641 from West Bengal.

    The ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

    “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.

    NEW DELHI: India saw a single-day rise of 34,403 new COVID-19 infections while the active cases have further declined to 3,39,056, according to Union health ministry data updated on Friday.

    The active cases now comprise 1.02 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 97.65 per cent, it said.

    The ministry said that a reduction of 8,164 cases has been recorded in active cases in a span of 24 hours.

    Also, 15,27,420 tests were conducted on Thursday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 54,92,29,149, it said The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 2.25 per cent.

    It has been less than three per cent for the last 18 days, according to the data.

    The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 1.97 per cent.

    It has been below three per cent for the last 84 days, the ministry said.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease is 3,25,60,474, while the case fatality rate has been recorded at 1.33 per cent, it said.

    The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the vaccination drive has exceeded 77.24 crore, according to the ministry.

  • Maharashtra records 3,075 COVID-19 cases, 35 deaths

    MUMBAI: Maharashtra reported 3,075 new coronavirus infections and 35 fatalities on Saturday, a health official said.

    It took the tally of cases in the state to 64,94,254 and death toll to 1,38,096.

    The day before, the state had reported 4,154 infections and 44 fatalities.

    With 3,056 persons discharged from hospitals, the total of recovered patients reached 63,02,816 on Saturday.

    The state has 2,95,772 people in home quarantine, 1,954 in institutional quarantine and 49,796 active patients.

    Maharashtra’s case recovery rate stands at 97.05 per cent while the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent.

    The number of coronavirus tests conducted in the state rose to 5,58,36,107 with 1,33,479 samples tested during the day.

    The districts of Dhule, Hingoli, Akola, Nagpur and Wardha and municipal corporations of Malegaon, Dhule, Jalgaon, Parbhani and Amravati did not report any fresh COVID-19 cases.

    The Ahmednagar district continued to report highest number of infections with 693 new cases on Saturday.

    It was followed by rural parts of Pune with 376 new infections, while Satara district reported the highest 12 fatalities in the state.

    Among eight regions of Maharashtra, Pune region reported the highest 1,018 new COVID-19 cases.

    Mumbai region reported 710 new cases, Kolhapur region 413, Latur 94, Aurangabad 17, Nagpur 10, and Akola region reported eight new cases.

    Of 35 fatalities, the highest 17 were reported from Pune region, followed by eight fatalities in Kolhapur region.

    Aurangabad, Akola and Nagpur regions did not report any fresh fatalities, while Mumbai region reported five deaths, Nashik three and Latur region reported two deaths.

    Mumbai city recorded 361 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths as per the state government’s data, while Pune city reported 144 new cases but no deaths.

  • India records 42,618 Covid cases, 330 deaths in a day; weekly positivity rate 2.63 per cent

    New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) India’s COVID-19 infection tally rose by 42,618 in a day to reach 3,29,45,907 while the number of active cases touched 4,05,681 following an increase for the third consecutive day, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

    The death toll climbed to 4,40,225 with 330 more people succumbing to the viral disease, showed the data updated at 8 am.

    In a span of 24 hours, the active caseload rose by 5,903.

    The number of active cases now comprise 1.23 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.43 per cent, the ministry said.

    The daily positivity rate was recorded 2.50 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 2.63 per cent.

    It has been below three per cent for the last 71 days.

    NEW DELHI: With 46,164 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases has increased to 3,25,58,530, while the active cases increased to 3,33,725, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

    The death toll climbed to 4,36,365 with 607 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

    The active cases comprise 1.03 per cent of the total infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.63 per cent, the ministry said.

    An increase of 11,398 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

    As many as 17,87,283 tests were conducted on Wednesday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 51,31,29,378.

    The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.58 per cent. It has been less than three per cent for the last 31 days.

    The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.02 per cent.  It has been below three per cent for the last 62 days, according to the ministry.

  • COVID-19: India reports 36,401 new cases, 530 deaths

    NEW DELHI: India has added 36,401 new COVID-19 infections, taking the total tally of cases to 3,23,22,258, while the death toll has climbed to 4,33,049 with 530 more fatalities, according to Union health ministry data updated on Thursday.

    The national recovery rate has improved to 97.52 per cent, the highest since March last year, according to the data updated at 8 am.

    The ministry said that active cases have declined to 3,64,129, the lowest in 149 days, and comprise 1.13 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March last year.

    A reduction of 3,286 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

    The ministry said that 18,73,757 tests were conducted on Wednesday, taking the total tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 50,03,00,840.

    The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 1.94 per cent and it has been less than three per cent for the last 24 days, it said.

    The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 1.95 per cent and it has been below three per cent for the last 55 days, according to the ministry.

    The 530 fresh fatalities include 179 from Kerala and 158 from Maharashtra.

    A total of 4,33,049 deaths have been reported so far in the country, including 1,35,413 from Maharashtra, 37,061 from Karnataka, 34,610 from Tamil Nadu, 25,077 from Delhi, 22,787 from Uttar Pradesh, 19,049 from Kerala and 18,325 from West Bengal.

    The ministry said that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

  • CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan cautions people of Indore, administration on rising COVID-19 cases

    INDORE: With the gradual rise in coronavirus cases in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh over the past few days, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday cautioned the people, saying that even slight negligence towards adherence to COVID-19 protocols could quickly turn the situation bad.

    “Seven new COVID-19 cases were found in Indore. I have directed the administration to remain alert. I also urge people there that even slight negligence in observing caution will result in change in the situation without any delay. Therefore, remain alert and follow guidelines,” Chouhan said in a tweet.

    Health officials said that Indore has witnessed a gradual spike in daily cases – from one to seven – between July 23 and 28.

    Eyewitnesses said that people were seen crowding public places like markets, with many of them not even wearing face masks and not following social-distancing and COVID-19 norms.

    According to official figures, in the district with a population of over 35 lakh, nearly 1.35 lakh people have so far contracted the infection, of whom 1,391 have succumbed to it.

    The pandemic had broken out in Indore district in March 2020.
