    Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said that International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) headquarters will be located in the world’s largest economy.

    He said that for 75 years the IMF HQ is in Washington, DC. With the way the US and Chinese economies are moving after Covid-19, is the IMF’s relocation to Beijing imminent.

    Is the IMF’s relocation to Beijing imminent?” Tharoor posed the question on his Twitter handle.

    “The International Monetary Fund’s by-laws specify that its headquarters will be located in the world’s largest economy. For 75 years this placed it in Washington, DC. With the way the US and Chinese economies are moving after #Covid-19, is the IMF’s relocation to Beijing imminent?”

    The IMF itself says China will be the only major economy to grow this year. It predicts that China will expand 1.9 per cent in 2020, while the U.S. would shrink by 4.3 per cent. China’s growth will accelerate to 8.4 per cent next year, says the IMF, compared to 3.1 per cent in the United States. Challenging!” he said in a tweet.

    According to Johns Hopkins University, there are 8,210,867 COVID-19 cases in the US while China’s tally stands at 91,006 cases.

  • India’s COVID-19 tally now at 75.5 Lakh with Coronavirus cases below 50,000 in 24 hrs

    Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 1,09,283 active cases, while 6,45,825 people have recovered, 10,478 have succumbed to the coronavirus.As per the MoHFW, the number of active cases stand at 7,48,538 while the number of cured/discharged/migrated people stands at 67,33,329. The death toll has reached 1,15,197. With 1,83,456 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country.

    While 13,69,810 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 42,115 have died so far.

    Union Health Ministry on Saturday announced that the country has reached an unprecedented peak as active cases drop below the 8 lakh mark for the first time in 1.5 months.

    “India scales an unprecedented peak. ACTIVE CASES drop below the 8L mark for the first time in 1.5 months,” Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said in a tweet.“ This significant achievement is the outcome of Centre-led targetted strategies leading to high number of RECOVERIES and steadily falling number of FATALITIES,” it said in another tweet. ACTIVE CASES drop below the 8L mark for the first time in 1.5 months,” Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said in a tweet.

  • Malaria-free Bastar campaign became a major success

    The Malaria-free Bastar campaign is emerging as a huge success in the Bastar division. There has been a decrease of 65.53 per cent in cases of malaria in September-2020 as compared to September-2019 in the division. 4230 cases of malaria were found in seven districts of the division last September, whereas, a total of 1458 cases have been reported in September this year. Under the Malaria Free Bastar campaign, the first phase was conducted in January-February this year and the second phase in June-July. Under the first phase, 64 thousand 646 people were found to be infected with malaria after testing positive and were fully treated, from the 14 lakh six thousand people who were tested. Within the second phase, the health department team examined 23 lakh 75 thousand people and provided immediate treatment to 30 thousand 076 people suffering from malaria amid the challenges faced by the spread of Covid-19.

  • Movie theatres in Gurugram set to reopen with 50% capacity from tomorrow

    Following relaxation issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in unlock 5, movie theatres in Gurgaon will reopen with 50 per cent capacity from Thursday amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

    “Our preparations for running operations are very solid and we have been preparing for it over the last seven months. We aim to provide a safe movie experience to our customers amid COVID-19,” Sanjay Barjatya, Regional Operations Head, Miraj Cinemas, told ANI. According to the guidelines released by MHA, cinema halls can open for the viewers again from October 15, and according to the rules, owners have arranged for 50 per cent of viewers to sit in the halls with paperless ticket arrangement as well as sanitisation of all the seats.Outside the cinema hall, masks have also been arranged for visitors entering the food gallery keeping in mind social distancing measures, and all incoming viewers will need to download the ‘Arogya Setu’ app on their mobile.

    Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has tested positive for coronavirus. Thakur has gone into home isolation after he tested positive for Covid-19.

    “A few days ago, due to in contact with a corona positive person, I was quarantined at my residence for the past one week, due to some symptoms of the virus from last two days, I got a Covid-19 test done today, which has been reported positive. I am isolated in my official residence on the advice of doctors,” the Chief Minister tweeted, roughly translated from Hindi.

  • India reports spike of 73,272 new COVID-19 cases, 926 deaths in last 24 hours

    India reported a spike of 73,272 new COVID-19 cases and 926 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

    With this new surge in the COVID-19 cases, the country’s coronavirus count has reached 69,79,424 including 8,83,185 active cases, 59,88,823 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 1,07,416 deaths.

    At present, Maharashtra continues to be at the top of the country’s COVID-19 tally with 2,36,947 active cases. While Karnataka recorded 11,8870 active cases, Kerala has 91,841 active cases.

    As per the data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 11,64,018 samples tested for COVID-19 on Friday. Over 8.57 crores samples of COVID-19 have been tested so far in the country.

    He has urged all those who had come in contact with him over the past week to also get themselves tested. Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has tested positive for COVID-19.

    In a short video posted on Twitter Chautala said that he had self-isolated himself but was in good health and asymptomatic.

    In the video he can be heard saying, “My COVID-19 report came out positive. I have no Covid-related symptoms, such as fever or breathing difficulties but, because my report is positive, I am self-isolating. I also appeal to all my friends who have met me in the past week to also get tested.”
