  • India ‘only country’ that never usurped an inch of another country’s land: Rajnath Singh at DU

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: India is the ‘only country’ in the world that has never attacked or usurped an inch of any other country’s land, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said during Delhi University’s 98th convocation ceremony on Saturday. India’s power is meant for the welfare of the world and not to scare anyone, he said in his address as the chief guest of the ceremony, during which 1,73,443 students were awarded digital degrees.

“Our dream is to make India Jagat Guru. We want to make the country powerful, rich knowledgeable and have values. India is the only country that has never attacked or occupied one inch of land of any other country,” he said.

Now, even the world believes that India was once a world leader in several areas, including knowledge and science, but there are many so-called progressives who ‘malign and question’ the cultural excellence of the country, Singh said.

“In this Amrit Kaal of Independence, as the country celebrates 75 years of freedom, we must recall the great tradition of equality, harmony and knowledge, and endeavour to overcome this poison that was filled in us under a conspiracy,” the minister said. He cited names of ancient sages, scientists and scholars to convey that India was the leader in the field of science, but many were unaware of this due to centuries of slavery.

“The concept of zero was given by India, Sridharacharya gave quadratic equation, Bodhayana came up with the Pythagoras theorem 300 years before Pythagoras did so, surgery was performed in this country before Jesus Christ, Aryabhata explained the shape of the Earth and that it rotated on its axis before Copernicus,” he said.

Talking about the spiritual power of the country, Singh said even people such as Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg visited Neem Karoli Baba at Kainchi Dham near Nainital for peace in their times of trouble. He called upon the youth to take a pledge to refrain from engaging in any activity that is against the interests of the country.

Citing the names of convicted terrorists Afzal Guru, Yaqub Memon and the attackers of the twin towers in the US, Singh said it was a misconception that poverty and lack of education were reasons behind terrorism.

‘Sanskaras and open-mindedness’ decide a person’s future, he stated. During the event, Singh also conferred 197 medals on students. A record number of 802 doctoral degrees were awarded.

“I would like to congratulate the students and their families. Now, you will enter a world where the whole world will be your university. There will be a lot of changes in your life. There will be more responsibilities on you.I believe there is always an applied aspect of every education. Now, you will have to work in the world in applied mode with an acquired skill set,” he said.

Delhi University will release digital degrees with blockchain security through Samarth eGov, an initiative that aims at equipping Indian central universities and other higher education institutions with information systems for process automation and e-governance.

The university completes 100 years on May 1 this year, according to its Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, who presided over the event. Last year, Delhi University became the first institution in the country to award digital degrees to 1,78,719 students.

  • Initiative:People will audit the work of smart city, Raipur will be the first smart city to do so in the country

The people of the city will now audit all the projects built so far in the smart city Raipur. The public will tell which work has been useful for the city and which is not? For the first time in hundred smart cities across the country, this initiative is going to Raipur Smart City. Through which all the works of the last four years will be assessed by the public. Its outline is still at an early stage, on which a detailed action plan will be made soon. On Monday, Mayor Ejaz Dhebar summoned the top officials of Raipur Smart City and sought the work plan of Raipur Smart City. Significantly, Raipur was chosen to build smart cities in the cities of the country through the City Work Plan. Why the work given in the City Work Plan has not been completed so far. Where and what is the problem, The mayor also asked for its details. According to the information received, the mayor asked the officials why the plan of the sewerage treatment plant of the pond could not be put on the ground. A detailed report has also been sought. Actually, a big plan was made about one and a half years ago for more than hundred ponds in the city. This plan was later changed. According to Mayor Ejaz Dhebar, why smart city plans are changing frequently. Why are the tenders of water, roads, parking, renovation of markets, Chowpatty, cleaning of ponds being withdrawn repeatedly. I have asked the officials to give a detailed report about this too. Why are the tenders of roads, parking, renovation of markets, Chowpatty, cleaning of ponds being removed again and again. I have asked the officials to give a detailed report about this too. Why are the tenders of roads, parking, renovation of markets, Chowpatty, cleaning of ponds being removed again and again. I have asked the officials to give a detailed report about this too.

The way of functioning will change In the
smart city, for the past few years, a lot of work has been done through the board of directors meetings of BOD. Mayor Ejaz Dhebar has asked to change the way, he said that approval of the plan should be made to get the approval of the public representatives and public participation forum before going to the BOD. So that no work can be done about which people and public representatives do not know.

Raipur Smart City has accumulated 57 works so far

    • 20 projects completed
    • 15 projects in progress
    • 22 new projects undergoing tender process

The contest was won by a vote of 63 thousand people, later forgotten by the general public.
Smart City Raipur won the contest with 63 people in the competition for Smart City Mission between cities four years ago, but after achieving Smart City Mission slowly The role of the public was gradually absorbed in it. The role of the public was reduced to only awareness campaigns and various competitions held from time to time, such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Ease of Living Index.

The representation that the NGOs are doing
is negligible in Raipur Smart City public participation forum. Apart from public representatives, only one NGO, NGO has been placed to represent the voice of the public. Why were such rules made in the smart city. Questions are also being raised about this. Experts also say that a project useful to the public can be made only when public opinion is preferred.

“Whether the project of old age or Ganj Mandi is averted by the intervention of the public representatives. How can any project become useful without knowing the opinion of the public and the public representatives. The public will tell which work is done or not.”

  • Co-Pilot Sucked Halfway Out Of Plane After Windshield Cracks Over China

Getting sucked halfway out of a plane window is the stuff of movies and nightmares and it happens extremely rarely.

But in mid-April, a female passenger died after being partially sucked out of a Southwest Airlines flight when one of the aircraft’s engines exploded. And then on Monday, the co-pilot of a Chinese Sichuan Airlines flight was also almost sucked out of his plane after a part of the cockpit windshield broke.

After taking off at the Chinese municipality of Chongqing, passengers and crew sensed that something was wrong about half an hour into their flight to the Tibetan capital of Lhasa.

“We experienced a few seconds of free fall before it stabilized again,” one passenger told Chinese media.

But that wasn’t just turbulence. At the front of the plane, the pilot was fighting for the life of his colleague – who at that point had been almost entirely sucked out of the plane and was only being held back by his seat belt.

“Suddenly, the windshield just cracked and made a loud bang. The next thing I know, my co-pilot had been sucked halfway out of the window,” said pilot Liu Chuanjian, speaking to Chinese media.

Liu managed to pull his co-pilot back into the cockpit, according to his own account. The co-pilot only suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the drama that unfolded at an altitude of 32,000 feet.

The pilot then managed to land the Airbus A319 in the city of Chengdu in a turbulent descent that injured another crew member.

“Everything in the cockpit was floating in the air. Most of the equipment malfunctioned . . . and I couldn’t hear the radio. The plane was shaking so hard I could not read the gauges,” he was quoted as saying by Chinese media.

French Airbus representatives later said they would send teams to China to investigate what triggered the 7-year-old plane’s malfunctioning. Airbus A319s can carry up to 160 passengers and are widely used around the world by European and U.S. airlines.

While Sichuan Airlines mostly operates in Asia, it also offers flights to international destinations in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America. According to its website, it operates on routes to Los Angeles and Vancouver, among other destinations.

The last known emergency of that kind occurred almost three decades ago, in 1990, when a British Airways pilot survived a similar incident at an altitude of 23,000 feet. While lightning strikes or objects in the flight path can sometimes crack windshields, incidents like Monday’s are extremely rare – but when they do happen, they almost always end with passengers, crew members or pilots being sucked out of the planes completely or partially, according to my colleagues Lori Aratani and Faiz Siddiqui:

“It’s all about air pressure, which varies depending on location. At sea level, atmospheric pressure is about 14.7 psi (pounds per square inch), Thomas Anthony, director of the University of Southern California’s aviation security program, told the Verge. But at an airplane’s cruising altitude, about 33,000 feet, it drops to about 4 psi. That is why the higher you go, the more difficult it is to breathe. The air gets thinner. It’s the reason climbers on Mount Everest must carry oxygen with them.

“Aircraft cabins are pressurized to keep passengers comfortable and alive at high altitudes, said Jim Gregory, a professor of aeronautical engineering and director of the Aerospace Research Center at Ohio State University.

  • This Is How Much Money You Need To Be Happy Forever, According To Millionaires

    Millionaires have it tough.

No, they do. Imagine being really, really wealthy, but embarrassed at not having quite enough change to keep the chopper tanked up as well as making sure the yacht’s in good nick through the winter? Doesn’t bear thinking about.

A million or two will technically make you a millionaire, sure, but will it make you a proper, bona fide Croesus?

Not according to an analyst from US Trust, who told Town & Country that to keep up a rich person’s lifestyle and truly stop worrying about money forever, you’ll need at least $190 million.

This is a properly rich person’s lifestyle, mind, not the needy wad-flashing of someone who’s fluked their way to a couple of million on the lottery.

Then there’s the wages of your chef, your housekeeper and your chauffeur, which put another $190,000 a year on.

So, you can see how it stacks up. Being sickeningly wealthy must be an absolute admin nightmare.

There’s a chance you might be able to sneak into the super-rich club with a little less, though. According to Richard Kirshenbaum, who wrote ‘Isn’t That Rich?: Life Among the 1%, billionaires’, you should “view $100 million as the starting point for real money”.

“They call it a hundy,” he told Town & Country. “Like, ‘Oh, they made it, they have a hundy.’”

If it’s a straight choice between being phenomenally wealthy and knowing that the word ‘hundy’ is never going to come out of your mouth, we’ll happily take penury.
