  • Modi cabinet: K Ram Mohan Naidu youngest, Jitan Ram Manjhi oldest in PM Modi’s Council of Ministers

    New Delhi, At 36, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu is the youngest minister while 79-year-old Jitan Ram Manjhi is the oldest minister to be inducted in the 18th Lok Sabha. Naidu, Srikakulam MP from Telugu Desam Party (TDP), was sworn in as a minister of state (MoS) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new Council of Ministers. Another young minister is Raksha Khadse (37), an MP from Maharashtra. She won the Raver Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra. Manjhi was sworn in as a Union Cabinet Minister in Modi 3.0 government. He has served as the 23rd chief minister of Bihar, and is the founding president of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM).

    Previously, Manjhi had served as the minister for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes welfare in Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet. He won the Gaya seat in 2024 general elections.

    Some of the other young ministers include Chirag Paswan and Jayant Choudhary. PM Modi, along with his 71 ministers, took oath on Sunday as the new coalition government was formed after two full tenures in which the BJP enjoyed a majority on its own.

  • PM Modi to chair Council of Ministers meeting on July 14

    NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a meeting with the Council of Ministers on Wednesday (July 14), said sources.

    This will be PM Modi’s second meeting with the Council of Ministers after the Union Cabinet reshuffle on July 7.

    A day after the expansion of the Union Cabinet, the Prime Minister had back-to-back meetings with the union cabinet and council of ministers on Thursday.

    In the meeting on Thursday, sources said that Prime Minister had cautioned Ministers against any complacency in the fight against COVID-19, saying that over the past few days there have been pictures and videos of crowded places and people roaming about without masks or social distancing and “it should instil a sense of fear in us”.

    The sources said the Prime Minister noted that people not following COVID-19 protocols was not a “pleasant sight”.

    NEW DELHI:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday presided over a marathon meeting with his Council of Ministers, dropping hints that a Cabinet reshuffle is round the corner and that non-performers may be eased out.

    While the PM asked his ministerial colleagues to make the vaccination drive a resounding success, it is reliably learnt the ministers were told some of them were not seen doing enough in their respective spheres. 

    The meeting was seen part of the exercise at the level of the PM to review the performances of the ministries with his senior Cabinet colleagues during which BJP chief J P Nadda was present.

    It is also learnt that the ministers were asked for better coordination with the BJP, with a few leaders singling out lack of team work for the “excessive negative buildup of perception against the government during the pandemic”. 

    “The meeting also gave a sense that Modi wants the governance to be seen in tune with business as usual after a long spell of the Covid9 shadow. The government is confident of the success of the vaccination drive, but the focus also needs to return on other aspects of the governance,” a source added.  

    That the PM is holding a number of review meetings point to the urgency at the top level for return to normalcy in governance for setting the mood ahead of the 2024 polls, sources added.

  • Corona speed up again in country, night curfew orders in many states

    The situation of Corona in the country is once again deteriorating. Corona cases are increasing rapidly in many states. In such a situation, the governments there are imposing night curfew. Please tell that in many states including Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, strictness is being taken to deal with corona. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are states where night curfews have been announced in many districts. At the same time, in the country’s capital Delhi, Corona’s panic is not taking its name. Looking at the figures, 5,879 new cases were reported on Saturday in twenty four hours. Which has become a cause of trouble for the Arvind Kejriwal government. Apart from this, 111 patients died in 24 hours from this epidemic. Please tell that there are more than 39 thousand active cases in Delhi. At the same time, to prevent the spread of corona, the Delhi government has imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask.

    To curb the growing cases of corona, after Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, a decision has been taken for night curfew in 8 cities in Rajasthan as well. In fact, on Saturday, CM Ashok Gehlot called a Council of Ministers meeting on the increasing cases of corona in the state, in which the night curfew was again announced in the districts most affected by the corona of the state.

    The districts in Rajasthan which have announced the imposition of night curfew include Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar and Bhilwara besides the capital Jaipur. In these districts, there will be night curfew from 8 am to 6 am, then the markets will be open only till 7 pm.

    In the other restrictions, it has also been decided about the wedding ceremony that now more than 100 people will not be allowed to attend such a ceremony. Besides, it has been decided to make all medical colleges free Kovid-19. Apart from this, in the office where more than 100 people are working, 80 percent of the staff has been made mandatory. At the same time, the state government has been instructed to take strict action on the application of masks. The penalty for not wearing a mask has been increased from 200 to 500 rupees.
