The ongoing Ganga Expressway project is encountering obstacles due to persistent monsoon rains, impacting its progress towards the designated deadline. In response to this situation, Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta has issued directives to accelerate the project’s completion. During a high-level review meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, Minister Gupta emphasized to officials the importance of adhering to the stipulated timeframe for construction and mandated weekly progress reviews.

The meeting served to assess projects currently underway, under construction, and proposed under the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). Minister Gupta, also known as Nandi, was briefed on the current status of the 594 km-long Ganga Expressway, a significant infrastructure endeavor in the state. While the primary route is largely finished, the construction of two crucial interchanges has been hampered by heavy rainfall. The locations of these interchanges, near Jagatpur (Unchahar Road) and Ahar (Lalganj Road), are experiencing waterlogging, creating challenges for soil removal. Anil Poonia, an administrative officer from ITD, stated that while the majority of the construction work has been completed, the final section of the main road remains unfinished. He noted that only about 300 meters of earthwork is pending to complete the main road.

Despite these setbacks, UPEIDA officials are optimistic about making the project operational by November. Remaining tasks, such as soil cutting, grass planting on slopes, and toll booth construction, are in the final stages. Minister Gupta stressed the paramount importance of construction quality, stating that there should be no compromises on the quality of work. He also highlighted the necessity of paying close attention to the maintenance and safety aspects of the project. This expressway is anticipated to provide economic benefits to farmers and traders. Currently, farmers are limited to selling their produce in local or nearby markets, resulting in financial losses. The project’s timely completion now hinges on weather conditions and the dedicated efforts of the construction team.

A tragic accident in Pavagadh, Gujarat, resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals after a trolley carrying construction materials for a ropeway collapsed. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 6, at the Pavagadh Hill Temple in the Panchmahal district. According to officials, the cable wire of the cargo ropeway snapped, causing the trolley to plummet. Relief and rescue operations were immediately initiated at the site. Gujarat Minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed that a bogie carrying six laborers fell, leading to their deaths. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse, with initial reports suggesting a possible technical fault. The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures in place for ongoing construction in the area, especially given the temple’s popularity and the reliance on cable cars for access.

The controversial 90-degree railway overbridge (ROB) in Bhopal is slated for a redesign, prompted by significant public criticism and media attention. The Central Expert Committee has advised improvements to the bridge’s hazardous design, specifically recommending an increase in the turn radius from 6 meters to 16.7 meters. This modification aims to eliminate the sharp turn, enhancing safety for heavy vehicles. The overbridge connects heavily populated areas like Aishbagh, experiencing substantial daily traffic. Design flaws have caused persistent traffic jams and increased accident risks, leading to sustained complaints from residents and commuters. The recommended changes are expected to provide considerable relief to those affected. A new detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared based on the committee’s recommendation, and submitted to the state government and the Municipal Corporation. The redesign will be overseen by the railways and the construction agency, with officials stating minimal impact on the project timeline. Initially budgeted at Rs 17.37 crore, the ROB project commenced on May 21, 2022, with an original completion target of August 2024, though it remains unfinished as of August 2025. Following the viral spread of images highlighting the bridge’s issues in June, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav intervened, resulting in the suspension of eight engineers and blacklisting of the construction agency and design firm.

Turkey is once again grappling with the aftermath of earthquakes, experiencing a flurry of tremors across several regions. In the past 48 hours, the country has recorded 879 small and large earthquakes, averaging 18 tremors per hour. According to local authorities, the initial earthquake struck the Balikesir province on Sunday, August 10th, with a magnitude of 6.6. This initial quake was followed by nearly 879 aftershocks. 120 tremors with a magnitude of 3-4 were felt, as well as 17 tremors with a magnitude of 4-5. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 11 km beneath the earth’s surface. Most of the tremors were less than 3 in magnitude. The Turkish Ministry of Home Affairs has advised the public not to panic, urging caution. The government has reported only one fatality due to the earthquakes, stating there have been no other casualties. However, 16 buildings in 68 villages have collapsed as a result of the quakes. A contractor involved in the construction of these buildings has been arrested.

Turkey’s frequent seismic activity stems from its location on the Anatolian, Eurasian, and Arabian tectonic plates. Any friction between these plates can trigger earthquakes in Turkey. Currently, two active fault lines, the North Anatolian Fault and the East Anatolian Fault, contribute to the country’s ongoing seismic events.

Since 1939, Turkey has experienced 13 major earthquakes, leading to approximately 120,000 fatalities. The most recent major earthquake in 2023 resulted in 50,000 deaths, prompting the Turkish government to focus on building construction regulations.

An unusual incident occurred in Bhagalpur where a BJP MLA, caught in a traffic jam, hitched a ride on a motorcycle. The MLA then rode on the motorcycle with two…

An unusual incident occurred in Bhagalpur where a BJP MLA, caught in a traffic jam, hitched a ride on a motorcycle. The MLA then rode on the motorcycle with two others, without a helmet. The road they were traveling on was riddled with potholes. The motorcycle rider, the one who gave the MLA a ride, questioned the MLA about the poor road conditions. The MLA found himself stuck in a jam, on a pothole-filled road, and then facing questions.

There’s an old saying in Bihar politics: “Don’t walk on the road, walk on politics!” And BJP MLA Pawan Yadav from Kahalgaon seemed to prove this saying true. Bhagalpur’s NH 80, specifically the Lailakh area, is known for its roads that have more potholes than road surface, with the constant erosion from the Ganges. While repairs are underway, the work’s pace doesn’t match the fervor seen in election speeches.

Kahalgaon’s BJP MLA, Pawan Yadav, experienced a rather peculiar situation. The MLA, who ran for election promising to improve the very road he was stuck on, was now trapped in a traffic jam on that very road. The MLA needed to go to court. So, he stopped a motorcycle and asked for a lift. There were already two people on the motorcycle. MLA Pawan Yadav sat on the bike, creating a triple load, without wearing a helmet. Afterward, something happened that made the MLA ponder why.

The person riding pillion began recording a video, and the motorcycle rider questioned the MLA about the poor road conditions. The person asked, ‘MLA ji, even with a double-engine government, the road hasn’t been built yet?’ The person added that the MLA had an urgent matter to attend to, but they were stuck in a jam. In response, MLA Pawan Yadav blamed the contractor. However, this video hasn’t been verified by any official source.

MLA Pawan Yadav replied to the question saying, ‘We have been telling the contractor for two years to build the bridges and culverts first, and to complete the road work quickly. If he had listened, we wouldn’t be facing this problem today.’ The video of MLA Pawan Yadav is going viral. The whole incident took place on NH 80, which connects Bhagalpur to Kahalgaon and Jharkhand. Construction on this road is underway, but the work is slow. As a result, people face difficulties due to traffic jams on this road. People can face extreme difficulties in jams that can stretch up to 30 kilometers.

The Chhattisgarh government has taken comprehensive steps to make the sand mining policy more transparent, organized, environmentally sensitive, and beneficial to the public. Under the previous government, the number of sand mines in the state decreased from 300 to about 100-150. The current government believes this impacted construction work and promoted illegal mining.

The current Vishnu Deo Sai government has reformed the mining policy to organize, control, and benefit the public in the sand mining system. It has been made more transparent, scientific, and people-friendly.

To expedite the environmental clearance process, the government has formed three state-level environmental impact assessment committees, with approval from the Government of India. Previously, only one committee was functioning. This decision has streamlined the process of disposing of pending cases.

Currently, 119 sand mines are operating with environmental clearance, while the approval process for 94 other mines is in the final stage. Additionally, there are plans to approve more than 300 new mines in the next 1 to 1.5 years, ensuring a smooth supply of sand and accelerating construction work.

A study conducted by IIT Roorkee on the environmental impacts of mining on major rivers concluded that properly regulated sand mining does not have any negative impact on rivers. This report supports the state’s scientific approach to the mining policy.

From 2024-25 to June 2025, 6,331 illegal mining cases were registered, with ₹18.02 crore recovered, 184 machines seized, 56 FIRs filed, and 57 court cases initiated. District and state-level task forces, consisting of officials from the mining, revenue, police, transport, and environment departments, are continuously monitoring and taking action.

Prompt legal and administrative action has been taken on disputes and incidents related to sand in various districts of the state, including Rajnandgaon and Balrampur. The government has a clear directive that no illegal activity will be tolerated.

As per a decision taken on March 15, 2024, royalty exemption has been provided on sand to eligible beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This decision has provided direct relief to the poor and needy.

The policy of the Chhattisgarh government is clear: to base the exploitation of mineral resources on the principles of public interest, transparency, and environmental balance. Prepared with an organized, scientific, and long-term approach, this new sand mining policy will be a strong foundation for both the overall development and environmental protection of the state.
