Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP’s articulate spokesperson, unleashed a blistering critique against Mamata Banerjee, labeling her conduct as a direct assault on the Constitution. He charged the West Bengal CM with dismantling democratic etiquettes through her governance style. Speaking to reporters, Prasad cited instances where Banerjee’s administration allegedly stifled opposition rallies and manipulated law enforcement.
Actress Manisha Koirala shared her perspectives on Nepali politics during a podcast, suggesting that the constitution should have included a provision for the monarchy. She also acknowledged that the constitution has not succeeded in delivering justice to the people of Nepal. Koirala hails from a prominent political family in Nepal; her father, Prakash Koirala, served as a minister, and her grandfather, BP Koirala, was the first prime minister of Nepal.

When asked about the frequent changes in government in Nepal, Koirala stated that she is critical of the current political landscape, a sentiment she has held since childhood. She recalled her father’s emphasis on politics as a form of service and a vision for the people. However, she noted that problems arise when this vision deviates from reality.

Following KP Sharma Oli’s resignation, Sushila Karki has been chosen as Nepal’s interim prime minister. Prior to her swearing-in, Karki consulted with President Ramchandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashore Raj.…

Following KP Sharma Oli’s resignation, Sushila Karki has been chosen as Nepal’s interim prime minister. Prior to her swearing-in, Karki consulted with President Ramchandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashore Raj. The 74-year-old Karki enjoys support from Generation-Z (Gen-Z). As interim prime minister, Karki will be responsible for conducting elections and reforming the system.

After Oli’s resignation, the names of Kulman Ghising, Balen Shah, and Durga Prasai were discussed for the prime minister’s post in Nepal, but ultimately, Sushila Karki secured the position. The question arises: why was Karki’s name agreed upon for the prime minister’s post?

Reasons for Karki’s Appointment:

1. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court: Unlike other potential candidates, Karki has held a position of significant authority. She possesses an understanding of the system and power. During her tenure as Chief Justice, Karki frequently criticized corruption.

2. Excellent Relations with India: Sushila Karki has maintained strong ties with India. She studied at Banaras Hindu University. When her name was proposed, she immediately expressed gratitude by mentioning Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India is a crucial factor in Nepal’s politics.

3. Absence of Political Enmity: Karki has no political adversaries. In contrast, Kulman Ghising had political differences with KP Sharma Oli, and Balen Shah with the Nepali Congress. Appointing either of them could have led to constitutional challenges. The army and president opted for a middle ground.

4. Constitutional Considerations: Sushila Karki, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, was appointed as the interim prime minister. The constitution of Nepal does not mention an interim PM. There is a strong possibility that the matter could go to the Supreme Court. The President sought to avoid a constitutional crisis by appointing a former Supreme Court judge to the position.

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and a prominent figure in the RJD, strongly criticized Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya’s assertion that the Manusmriti is the first constitution of India. Speaking at a TV9 Digital Bihar meeting, Yadav labeled Rambhadracharya’s statement as an act of treason. He questioned the place of women, Dalits, and the backward classes in the Manusmriti, urging the public to assess the text’s merits and demerits. Yadav challenged the timeline of India’s independence and the formation of the Indian constitution, emphasizing that the first constitution was established by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He stated that anyone who considers the Manusmriti as the first constitution is against the constitution and those making such statements are traitors.

Following three days of widespread unrest, Gen Z protesters formally presented their ten-point agenda during a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday. Representatives of the youth movement, central to the nationwide demonstrations, outlined their plan to end the ongoing protests, which had exerted pressure on the Prime Minister and other government officials to resign. Diwakar Dangal, Amit Baniya, and Junal Dangal addressed the media, detailing the steps they believe are necessary to stabilize the nation. Key demands include dissolving the parliament, amending the constitution, and forming an interim government.
Former judge B. Sudarshan Reddy, the opposition candidate for the Vice President’s post, has appealed to all Members of Parliament for their support, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the dignity of the election. Reddy, speaking at a press conference in Ranchi, stated that he decided to contest the election due to the current circumstances in the country, despite having dedicated the past 45 years to upholding the Constitution. He met with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to seek his backing, stressing that the Constitution’s Preamble is its core and that its protection is the Supreme Court’s responsibility. Reddy also addressed the arrest of Hemant Soren and the alleged role of constitutional bodies, questioning who would compensate for the damage to Soren’s reputation. He highlighted the need to revise voter lists, expressing concerns about the current processes of adding and removing voters. Reddy has written to all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, seeking their support, and intends to engage with top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He paid tribute to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, acknowledging his lifelong dedication to the state’s formation. Responding to a question, Reddy stated that he would comment on the 130th Amendment Bill after receiving the report from the Parliamentary Joint Committee. He also avoided commenting on the appointment of judges through the collegium system, citing the need for a separate discussion. Reddy emphasized his priority is to ensure that the Vice Presidential election is conducted with constitutional decorum and maintains its prestige. He also affirmed that he will not allow the dignity of the Constitution to be undermined. When asked about the former governor’s role in the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Reddy declined to make any personal remarks.

Addressing an India गठबंधन (Alliance) rally in Sasaram, Bihar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticized the BJP and the RSS. Kharge stated that the votes, rights, and freedom of the people are not safe until the BJP is removed from power, and that the Constitution is under threat. He also accused the RSS of opposing the country’s freedom. Kharge asserted that while Prime Minister Modi claims the RSS has served the nation for 100 years, the truth is that the RSS opposed the country’s freedom movement. He added that people with RSS ideology assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, and the RSS contributed nothing to the freedom struggle. Instead, RSS members sought forgiveness and employment from the British by writing letters. Kharge highlighted that the right to vote is given to all citizens by the Constitution, with Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar playing a significant role in it. He also mentioned that 65 lakh voters’ names were removed from the voter list in Bihar and accused the BJP of electoral malpractices. Kharge mentioned the Supreme Court’s order was disregarded, and the Chief Justice was removed and replaced by a central minister in the selection committee for the Chief Election Commissioner. Kharge announced that Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ is starting from Sasaram and will cover 1,300 km in 16 days, passing through 20 districts, concluding on September 1 at the historic Gandhi Maidan.

Following serious accusations against the Election Commission regarding alleged voting irregularities and illegitimate vote counts, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi addressed the ‘Vote Adhikaar Rally’ held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Friday. The rally, attended by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, and other party leaders, was organized to protest alleged vote manipulation. During the rally, Gandhi emphasized that the party’s actions against the EC are aimed at safeguarding the constitution, highlighting its protection of every citizen’s right to vote. He cited concerns regarding discrepancies in the Lok Sabha and subsequent state assembly elections, specifically pointing to a surge of new voters in Maharashtra as a cause for alarm. Gandhi reiterated his claim of ‘vote theft,’ stating that justice would be served to those involved in the ‘scam.’ Earlier, Gandhi alleged that over 100,000 ‘fake votes’ were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment to benefit the BJP, accusing the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP to secure Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term. He presented detailed evidence of the alleged fraud at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, suggesting that similar tactics may have been used in other constituencies. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah echoed Gandhi’s sentiments, calling for protests to protect the right to vote, citing a pattern of manipulation in the 2024 elections.

Bihar Legislative Assembly leader of opposition Tevjaswi Yadav held a press conference on Saturday, attacking the Election Commission. During this, he said that he had checked his name in the electoral roll but it did not appear. This meant that his name is not in the electoral roll.

After Tevjaswi Yadav’s statement, a political storm erupted in the state. The Election Commission and the District Election Officer immediately provided information about this matter. Now, Tevjaswi Yadav is seen getting trapped in a new mess.

Tevjaswi Yadav has two numbers:

In fact, Tevjaswi Yadav’s electoral photo identity card (EPIC) number is not one but two. Tevjaswi Yadav’s first EPIC number is RAB29161200 while his second number is RAB0456228.

In fact, the EPIC number and voter ID number provided by the leader of opposition Tevjaswi Yadav is RAB2916120, while the EPIC number issued by the Election Commission and Patna Election Officer cum District Magistrate is RAB0456228.

What is EPIC Number?

The Election Commission provides a unique identification number to all registered voters in the country. This number is on the voter ID card. This is called the EPIC number. EPIC number proves that the voter is a registered voter in India. To cast their vote during the election, the voter’s name must be in the voter list.

Bihar’s ruling party JD-U’s leader and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that Tevjaswi Yadav had two election identity cards. This needs to be investigated. The competent authority should investigate. Tevjaswi Yadav has two voter cards. He had a voter card made in 2014 at Kautalya Nagar. Later, his address changed to 10 Circular Road, Patna.

Deputy CM Targets Tevjaswi

Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha also targeted Tevjaswi Yadav. He said that just like the father (Lalu Yadav) is the son (Tevjaswi Yadav). They have mastered the art of lying. They quote the Constitution book while damaging the constitutional institutions (Election Commission). They should be taken to task. It is not right to give such freedom to anyone to attack the Constitution and constitutional institutions.
