Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi on November 8th. This expansion of India’s semi-high-speed rail network aims to significantly reduce travel…

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi on November 8th. This expansion of India’s semi-high-speed rail network aims to significantly reduce travel times, foster better regional connectivity, stimulate tourism, and invigorate economic activity across the country.

The new Vande Bharat services will connect key destinations on the following routes: Banaras to Khajuraho, Lucknow to Saharanpur, Firozpur to Delhi, and Ernakulam to Bengaluru.

The Banaras–Khajuraho Vande Bharat is poised to revolutionize travel between these historically rich cities. It will offer a direct link, slashing journey times by approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes compared to current special trains. This route is vital for boosting pilgrimage and tourism, as it connects Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho, making it easier for travelers to access significant cultural and religious landmarks.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow–Saharanpur Vande Bharat will enhance regional connectivity. The journey is expected to take around 7 hours and 45 minutes, a saving of about an hour. This service will greatly benefit commuters from cities like Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Bijnor, and also improve access to Haridwar via Roorkee, promoting intercity travel and regional development.

For the Punjab–Delhi corridor, the Firozpur–Delhi Vande Bharat promises to be the fastest train, completing the distance in a mere 6 hours and 40 minutes. This new link will strengthen ties between the national capital and important Punjabi cities such as Firozpur, Bathinda, and Patiala, likely leading to increased trade, tourism, and job creation.

Connecting the South, the Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express will dramatically cut travel time by over 2 hours, completing its route in 8 hours and 40 minutes. This service links major IT and commercial hubs, facilitating travel for professionals, students, and tourists, thereby fostering economic growth and tourism throughout Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) service, allowing users to make calls using a Wi-Fi connection instead of a cellular network. This innovative feature is initially available in select regions, positioning BSNL alongside competitors like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea, which already offer similar Wi-Fi calling capabilities. The VoWiFi service is designed to enhance connectivity in areas with weak mobile signals, making it particularly useful for users in low-network zones. The service requires compatible smartphones, with the VoWiFi option typically found within the device settings. Notably, BSNL’s VoWiFi service is offered at no extra cost, as confirmed by the company. This strategic move aims to improve BSNL’s competitive standing in the telecom market.

The Indian central government has granted approval for the long-awaited Muzaffarpur Airport project, marking a significant development for Bihar’s aviation sector. This decision follows the announcement of a similar project in Purnia and promises to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity in the region. The green light for the tender and construction of the Patahi Airport has sparked widespread celebration, particularly within the Tirhut division.

Former minister and BJP leader Suresh Sharma, along with supporters, celebrated the news near the airport, distributing sweets to local residents and party workers. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also shared the information on social media, highlighting the project’s potential to boost development and connectivity in North Bihar through pre-fabricated steel structure construction. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar.

The establishment of the Muzaffarpur Airport provides an additional option for air travel within Bihar, creating a wave of optimism across North Bihar. The project is expected to foster educational, commercial, economic, and cultural activities. There’s a strong demand for air services in the Tirhut region. The initiative is expected to benefit not just business travelers but also tourists. The airport is anticipated to facilitate flights to several major cities soon.

Former minister Suresh Sharma described the development as historic for Muzaffarpur and the entire Tirhut region, fulfilling a long-standing public demand. He credited the collaborative efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for making this vision a reality.

Afghanistan is experiencing a complete internet blackout due to actions taken by the Taliban, according to reports. The nationwide telecoms shutdown is part of the Taliban’s ongoing efforts to curb activities it deems “immoral.” Netblocks, a global internet watchdog, confirmed the disconnection of multiple networks across the country, including limitations on telephone services. This marks the first instance of a total internet blackout in Afghanistan under the current hardline Islamist government, impacting a population of 43 million. The shutdown comes at a critical time, just weeks after a major earthquake that has already created significant need for humanitarian assistance. Connectivity was cut in phases, with the final stage affecting telephone services. Cloudflare Radar has identified that Kabul, Herat and Kandahar were amongst the cities most affected. Authorities have also announced a one-week deadline to shut down 3G and 4G internet services, leaving only the 2G mobile network active.

The Taliban in Afghanistan has issued a new order, mirroring the practices of North Korea. This directive mandates the shutdown of communication services throughout the country, leading to the suspension of internet and telecom services. As a result, the Afghan population is now largely cut off from the outside world. This action has isolated over 43 million citizens, causing connectivity to plummet to less than one percent of normal levels on Monday, according to the global internet monitoring firm NetBlocks. This blackout follows several weeks of restrictions. Earlier this month, Taliban officials began severing fiber optic connections in multiple provinces, severely impacting high-speed internet access. On September 16th, Attaullah Zaid, the spokesperson for Balkh province, announced a complete ban on fiber optic services in the northern region, citing the need to ‘prevent evil’ as the reason behind the order.

A new 30-kilometer expressway project has been approved by the central government to improve road connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region. This expressway will link Delhi, Noida, and Greater Noida with the forthcoming Jewar International Airport. The new road will run parallel to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, connecting Pashta Road to both the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway. The proposal originated with Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed support for the project. Gadkari emphasized the importance of direct road links to maximize Jewar Airport’s potential during a tree-planting event at the airport site. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will execute the project, with funding assured. This project is part of broader infrastructure development plans in the Delhi-NCR region. Gadkari indicated that numerous other projects, totaling ₹1.2 lakh crore, are underway, with half already completed. Furthermore, the central government is prepared to invest an additional ₹40,000-50,000 crore for infrastructure upgrades.
