Uttar Pradesh’s higher education sector is stepping up to power Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Zero Poverty Abhiyan, marking a new chapter in state-led poverty eradication efforts. The campaign, which promises to lift every poor family out of destitution, will now benefit from the extensive networks and expertise of colleges and universities statewide.

Kicking off with a high-profile meeting at the state secretariat, officials outlined how academic bodies will spearhead data collection, awareness drives, and rehabilitation programs. Each university has been assigned specific targets, focusing on metrics like income levels, employment status, and access to basic amenities. This grassroots approach is expected to cover millions of households in the coming months.

‘Yuva Shakti (youth power) combined with Gyan Shakti (knowledge power) will defeat Garibi (poverty),’ declared CM Yogi, emphasizing the role of students in this transformative drive. Incentives for participating institutions include funding for research projects on socio-economic development, potentially attracting national attention.

The initiative builds on previous successes like the PM Awas Yojana and Ujjwala scheme, but innovates by embedding universities as nodal agencies. In pilot phases, institutions like Banaras Hindu University have already linked over 5,000 families to government schemes, demonstrating the model’s efficacy.

While challenges like logistical hurdles and data accuracy persist, the government’s commitment is evident through dedicated portals and monitoring dashboards. This collaboration not only accelerates poverty alleviation but also positions UP’s youth as change-makers, promising long-term societal benefits.

The Chhattisgarh government has extended the admission deadline for all educational institutions in the state to accommodate students. Following the instructions of Higher Education Minister Tank Ram Verma, the Higher Education Department issued an order extending the final date for admissions for the academic year 2025-26 to September 5, 2025.

The initial deadline set by the Higher Education Department was August 14, 2025. This decision to extend the deadline was made in consideration of potential vacant seats. The extended deadline provides relief to students who were unable to complete the admission process within the original timeframe. Students can now secure their admissions in colleges until the new deadline. The decision was widely welcomed by students and their parents who anticipate that it will safeguard the future of thousands of students and provide them with opportunities for higher education. A copy of this order has been sent to all universities, government colleges, and relevant officials.

A Bharat Bandh has been called for July 9th. Approximately 250 million employees from various sectors are expected to participate in the strike. The call has been given by 10 central trade unions. The strike will involve workers from sectors ranging from farmers and laborers to banking and postal services. This raises questions about the impact of the Bharat Bandh in Jharkhand, particularly whether schools, colleges, and banks will be open. This article aims to provide answers to these questions.

**Impact of Bharat Bandh in Jharkhand**

During the Bharat Bandh, 250 million employees from different sectors will protest against government policies. Consequently, employees in Jharkhand are likely to participate in the strike in various locations, which will naturally affect operations. A large-scale strike could lead to a significant impact of the Bharat Bandh in Jharkhand.

**Will Schools, Colleges, and Banks be Open or Closed?**

Currently, no official information is available regarding whether schools, colleges, and banks will be open or closed in Jharkhand during the Bharat Bandh on July 9th. It’s possible that banks might be closed if bank employees join the strike. An official notice concerning the status of schools and colleges is expected to be released by this evening.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has initiated a new scheme offering plots for educational institutions within its area. The scheme, open for applications until July 31, aims to foster the development of schools, colleges, and universities. A total of 15 plots are available, with 10 designated for schools (up to class 12) and located in Sectors 17, 18, 20, and 22E. These school plots range from 8,000 to 14,100 square meters. The remaining five larger plots, spanning 27,000 to 83,000 square meters, are reserved for higher education institutions such as universities and specialized colleges in Sectors 17A, 13, and 22E. The reserve price for these plots starts at Rs 13 crore and goes up to Rs 105 crore for the largest plot. The application process commenced on July 1, with the eligible applicants list scheduled for publication on August 28, and the final allotment via e-auction on September 4. YEIDA aims to strengthen educational infrastructure and establish the area as a major institutional hub, strategically located near the Noida International Airport. Detailed information, eligibility criteria, and application procedures are available on the official YEIDA website. Furthermore, YEIDA is planning additional schemes for residential, industrial, commercial, and other business purposes in the future. The YEIDA area encompasses approximately 2.5 lakh hectares along the 165 km long Yamuna Expressway, which connects Greater Noida to Agra, and is developing urban and industrial projects across six districts.
