  • Chris Evans named ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People magazine

    By Associated Press

LOS ANGELES: Chris Evans may have put down Captain America’s shield but he’s got a new badge of honor: he’s been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.

People’s selection was announced Monday night on Stephen Colbert’s late night show and on the magazine’s website. Evans, who for nearly a decade played Captain America in Marvel’s sprawling superhero films, takes the baton from another Avenger, Paul Rudd.

“My mom will be so happy,” he told the magazine for its cover story, which hits newsstands on Friday. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.”

He also knows that he’s likely to be teased by close friends. “Really this will just be a point of bullying,” he joked in an interview. “It’s ripe for harassment.”

Among those likely to heckle him are co-stars and previous Sexiest Man Alive winners like Rudd, Ryan Reynolds and Chris Hemsworth. (Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel films, was the first Avenger to win People’s annual honor, which was first handed out to Mel Gibson in 1985.)

Other past honorees include John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Adam Levine, Richard Gere, Channing Tatum and David Beckham.

People interviewed Evans, 41, at a Georgia farmhouse, where the actor talked about finding a better work-life balance. “The most enjoyable aspect of my career right now is feeling secure enough to take my foot off the gas,” he said.

Evans’ first film role came in 2000’s “The New Comers” and he played superhero Johnny Storm in two “Fantastic Four” films released in 2005 and 2007. But he gained widespread fame in 2011 with the release of “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

Since then, he’s played the wholesome superhero in 10 Marvel films, laying down his shield after saving the universe in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

Evans has become a highly bankable star, voicing the Buzz Lightyear character in Pixar’s “Lightyear” film and playing a sadistic assassin trying to kill Reynolds in Nextflix’s “The Gray Man” — both released this year.

The actor told People he’s thinking about marriage and having a family, saying, “That’s absolutely something I want.”

He said he didn’t expect to talk publicly much about his private life though. “Some things you want just for you, or just for my family and my friends.”

The Boston native also continues his involvement with the civic engagement site A Starting Point, which he co-founded in 2020. As Evans charts the next part of his life and career, he fully expects People’s honor will be a milestone.

“It’s something that as I become old and saggy I can look back on and say ‘I remember then…’” Evans said. “I’m lucky to be in the discussion in any capacity.”

Joe, who is in the city with Anthony for the India premiere of the upcoming movie, praised the “vibrant” film community of the country.

“We love India, we love the vibrant film community here. There’s so much talent in India and the fan base is so passionate. We would love to find as many projects as possible with Indian talents – producers, actors, and directors. It is exciting to us,” Joe said during the press conference of “The Gray Man” here.

Based on Mark Greaney’s 2009 novel of the same name, the spy action entertainer revolves around a freelance assassin and former CIA operative Court Gentry aka Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling) who is hunted across the world by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) and other international assassins.

Dhanush plays Avik San, the “lethal force” who can stop Six from revealing a dark agency secret.

Anthony said they hope to tell more of Avik San’s story in future.

  • ‘I really want children’: Actor Chris Evans is ‘laser-focused’ on finding a life partner

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Chris Evans says he is “laser-focused” on finding a life partner. The actor has reportedly been single since 2018 but is now ready to find someone to settle down with because a career in show business is “full of doubt.”

“Okay, good question. Thank you for a good question. My goodness. Laser focus – you know what? We’re gonna do this. I’m gonna give you a good answer. Maybe (I’m) laser-focused on finding a partner, you know, someone that you want to live with,” he said when speaking on ‘Shondaland’, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“I mean, look, I love what I do. It’s great. I pour all of myself into it. But…even this industry is full of pockets of doubt, hesitation and recalibration in terms of really trying to find someone that you really can pour all of yourself into,” he elaborated.

“Maybe it’s about trying to find someone that you’re looking to spend your life with.”

Chris last had a public relationship with ‘Big Mouth’ actress Jenny Slate, who is now married to writer Ben Shattuck.

When that relationship came to an end in 2018 after two years, the ‘Captain America’ star said at the time he was still in search of a wife and hoped to have children one day.

“I really want kids. Yeah, I do,” he said at the time.

“I like pretty pedestrian, domestic things. I want a wife, I want kids. I like ceremony. I want to carve pumpkins and decorate Christmas trees and s*** like that.”

  • Chris Evans refutes rumours about return, backs Anthony Mackie as Captain America

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Chris Evans who is famous for his portrayal of Steve Rodgers also known as the Cap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has shown his support for Anthony Mackie amid speculations about his return in the fourth ‘Captain America’ movie.

The Hollywood Reporter tweeted about Julius Onah being tapped to direct ‘Captain America 4’.

In one of its tweets, the site posed a question if Evans would reprise his role as the titular superhero in the upcoming movie.

“It is unclear if Chris Evans would reprise his role as the first #CaptainAmerica (though if the question of who is entitled to carry the shield continues, all bets are off),” read the tweet, which prompted a response from Evans himself.

“Sam Wilson is Captain America,” the 41-year-old star simply wrote.

    — Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) July 9, 2022
Evans made his first appearance as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in 2011’s ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’.

He continued to portray the character in two other ‘Captain America’ movies and ‘The Avengers’ films.

In ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Evans’ Steve Rogers appears to pass the torch to Sam Wilson or Falcon (Mackie) as he hands over his Captain America shield to the veteran United States Air Force Pararescueman.

However, Sam didn’t immediately embrace his new alter ego on Disney+’s series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, on which he starred alongside Sebastian Stan.

After much self-doubt due to him questioning how “a black man (can) represent a country that does not represent him,” Sam finally takes up the shield and embraces his new alter ego in the last episode of the series.

Plot details are still unknown, but Malcolm Spellman, the creator and head writer of “Winter Soldier”, has been tapped to pen the script of the upcoming film with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the show. No start date has been revealed either.

  • United Arab Emirates bans Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ for scenes showing homosexuality

    By Associated Press

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates on Monday banned the upcoming Pixar animated feature “Lightyear” from showing in movie theatres amid reports that the film includes a kiss between two female characters.

The Emirates, home to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, announced through its Media Regulatory Office of the country’s Ministry of Youth and Culture that the film would not be opening in the country this Thursday.

The film “is not licensed for public screening in all cinemas in the UAE, due to its violation of the country’s media content standards,” the office said in a tweet. “The office confirms that all films screened in cinemas across the country are subject to follow-up and evaluation before the date of screening to the public, to ensure the safety of the circulated content according to the appropriate age classification.”

The office did not elaborate on the tweet and did not immediately respond to questions from The Associated Press. The tweet included an image of the film’s poster, with the profile image of its main character Buzz Lightyear with a “no” symbol over it in red. Movie theatres in the UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms on the Arabian Peninsula, had already advertised showtimes for the film.

The movie, with actor Chris Evans voicing the inspiration for the Buzz Lightyear action figure from the “Toy Story” films, reportedly includes a character voiced by actress Uzo Aduba kissing another woman with whom she’s in a relationship.

The UAE, like much of the wider Mideast, is a Muslim-led nation that criminalizes same-sex relationships. The U.S. State Department warns that Islamic, or Shariah, law can include the death penalty for same-sex conduct, while Dubai can levy a 10-year prison sentence and Abu Dhabi allows for up to 14 years.

However, such prosecutions are rarely reported and LGBTQ individuals do live in the skyscraper-studded city-state of Dubai, home to the long-haul carrier Emirates.

The $200 million “Lightyear” is expected to be a major draw for Disney, with analysts estimating it could gross over $100 million in its first weekend.

  • Chris Evans teases ‘The Gray Man’ character Llyod Hansen: All he wants is anarchy

    By PTI

LONDON: Hollywood star Chris Evans says his character Llyod Hansen from “The Gray Man” is the antithesis of Steve Rogers/Captain America, the fan-favourite superhero he played in multiple Marvel movies.

For the upcoming Netflix actioner, Evans has reunited with Anthony and Joe Russo with whom he worked on two “Captain America” films as well as two “Avengers” movies.

Also starring Ryan Gosling, the movie is based on Mark Greaney’s 2009 novel of the same name and revolves around freelance assassin and former CIA operative Court Gentry.

It follows Gentry (Gosling) as he is hunted across the world by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former member of Gentry’s CIA team.

“It does seem that I’ve aggressively gone 180 (degrees) from Steve Rogers. But it just kind of unfolded that way,” Evans told Empire magazine. The 40-year-old actor said Hansen is a “trainwreck of a human being”.

“That guy can be anything in any scene, because all he wants is anarchy,” Evans added.

The “Knives Out” star said he is a fan of The Russo Brothers and can do “pretty much anything they ask me to do”.

“And this is a character I’ve never been able to play. He’s so liberated and free and honest. What I like about him is that you should almost fear his smile more than his scowl. I think he understands that what he does is bad and harmful, but I think he considers himself necessary. He thinks he’s a disrupter,” Evans added.

“The Gray Man” will also feature Dhanush, Ana de Armas, Rege-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard and Wagner Moura. The Russo Brothers have produced the project through their AGBO banner.

Joe Russo wrote the script with “Avengers: Endgame” screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film is set for a limited release on July 15, followed by its premiere on Netflix on July 22.
