In a detailed assessment convened in Beijing, China’s sports authority praised the national team’s record-breaking showing at the Milan Winter Olympics while identifying key areas for growth.

State General Administration of Sport head Gao Zhidan noted significant strides in various fields, with clear gains in comprehensive strength. Still, from a global standpoint, China trails leading powers without substantial change.

The team clinched 5 golds, 4 silvers, and 6 bronzes for 15 medals total – surpassing all prior overseas Winter Olympics hauls. A contingent of 126 athletes tackled 92 events, the largest such participation away from home soil.

Success spanned 8 disciplines, demonstrating equilibrium in ice and snow categories. Emerging young stars delivered standout performances, laying groundwork for sustained excellence.

Challenges persist, Gao pointed out: training approaches aren’t fully innovative, dominant events are few, talent pools are shallow, and big-event operations require polishing.

Future strategies include overhauling management systems and competition setups. Diverse talent cultivation paths will be pursued to expand gold medal hauls.

Gao urged a strategic, enduring approach to forging a sports superpower. Parallel focus on competitive prowess and public exercise systems will distribute sports gains across society.
