  • Congress’s taunt on the interim budget: Mahant said – the one who drowns in debt is directionless and hollow, MP Deepak said – neither relief, nor concession, this is extremely disappointing

Raipur. The Congress leaders of the state have taken a dig at the interim budget 2024 presented today i.e. on Thursday. Chhattisgarh Assembly Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant has called this budget hollow. At the same time, State Congress Committee President and MP Deepak Baij said that there is no relief, no concession, contrary to the expectations of the general public, it has been a very disappointing budget.

Dr. Charandas Mahanta, while reacting on the budget, said that the budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is a directionless and hollow budget that is drowning in debt. The increasing debt in the country is the result of the wrong policies of the Modi government. Today the country is drowned in debt of 81% of GDP. There was a debt of Rs 64 lakh crore in 2014-15, which has increased to Rs 173 lakh crore in 2023-24 under the Modi government.

Leader of Opposition Dr. Mahant said, in 2014, Modi government had promised that by 2022 everyone will have a permanent house, farmers’ income will double, inflation will reduce in 100 days, the power of petrol diesel will reduce, 100 smart cities were going to be built. Bullet train was going to run, there was talk of one country one tax, two crore jobs were to be provided every year. He said that the Modi government at the Center has done the work of cheating every section of the country in the last 10 years.

At the same time, State Congress Committee President Deepak Baij has said that like the last 9 years, this year’s election budget has also proved to be a budget of completely false dreams, statements and hoaxes. In reality, no relief or real concession of any kind has been given to the general public, yet the fiscal deficit remains uncontrolled. This last budget of Modi 2.0 is the budget which is going to take the country’s economy into a trough. The middle class has also been disappointed due to not getting relief in income tax rates.

MP Baij said, the old lie has been served once again that there will be exemption in income tax up to Rs 7 lakh whereas the reality is that under the new tax regime in the last budget itself, tax exemption was given to only those earning within Rs 7 lakh. No, the basic exemption limit has been increased. There is no provision for any kind of deduction in the new tax regime. The reality is that even today the basic exemption limit for income tax is only Rs 2.5 lakh. Not even Rs 1 has been increased in the last 10 years. There is a difference between basic exemption limit and tax rebate, the benefit of tax rebate ends when the limit is crossed, whereas every taxpayer gets the benefit of increasing the basic exemption limit.
