Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh witnessed a landmark event as 15 Maoists surrendered with their sophisticated arms on Saturday, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s anti-Naxal campaign. Nine of the surrenderers were women, highlighting the inclusive impact of rehabilitation drives.

Operating in the sensitive Odisha-Chhattisgarh border zone under the Balangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund outfit, these rebels deposited three AK-47s, two SLRs, and two INSAS rifles. Their total reward money stood at approximately Rs 73 lakh, underscoring their high-value status in Naxal hierarchies.

Home Minister Vijay Sharma announced the news on X, posting photos and praising the surrender of Vikas alias Babanna, a prominent state committee operative. He attributed the success to the state government’s proactive policies under PM Modi’s vision and Amit Shah’s leadership, which have restored faith among alienated youth.

The minister detailed how sustained security operations, infrastructure development in hinterlands, and generous rehabilitation packages convinced the group to abandon violence. “They have embraced the Constitution and the tricolor,” Sharma noted, vowing full assistance for their societal reintegration.

Comprising divisional, area, and party cadres from the BBM division, this batch adds to the growing tally of defections. Chhattisgarh police have observed a surge in surrenders post-2024, with thousands returning to civilian life.

With the 2026 Naxal-free deadline approaching, events like this signal accelerating progress. Security experts view it as evidence that a multi-pronged strategy—combining force, development, and reform—is dismantling the Maoist network from within.

In a significant development, 41 Naxalites, including 12 women, have laid down their arms in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The surrendered cadres were reportedly disillusioned with the Maoist ideology and inspired by the government’s progressive surrender and rehabilitation policies. A striking detail is that 32 of these individuals carried a cumulative bounty of Rs 1.19 crore, highlighting their senior positions within the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit.

The surrendered rebels were primarily associated with the South Sub-Zonal Bureau, with members hailing from crucial committees like the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, the Telangana State Committee, and divisional units covering Dhamtari, Gariaband, and Nuapada. Officials stated that these cadres surrendered before senior police officers, expressing their desire to embrace a dignified and secure life within the constitutional framework.

Among the 41 individuals, nine carried an individual reward of Rs 8 lakh each. Others had bounties ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This mass surrender underscores the effectiveness of the ‘Poona Margham’ initiative, a rehabilitation drive by the Bastar range police aimed at reintegrating former Maoists into society. Since January 2024 alone, Bijapur has seen 790 Maoist cadres abandon violence, with a total of over 2,200 surrendering in Chhattisgarh over the past 23 months.

In a significant development in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, 28 Naxalites laid down arms and surrendered to authorities. The group included 22 individuals who collectively carried a bounty of Rs 89 lakh, highlighting their importance within the Maoist hierarchy. Nineteen women were part of this significant surrender, signaling a growing disillusionment with the extremist ideology.

Officials attribute this mass surrender to the success of the state government’s proactive development and rehabilitation initiatives. Specifically, the ‘Niyad Nellanar’ (Your Good Village) scheme, which aims to bring essential development projects to remote and conflict-affected areas, has resonated with local populations. Furthermore, the newly introduced surrender-and-rehabilitation policy, along with the ‘Poona Margham’ program designed for the societal reintegration of former Maoists, has provided a credible path forward.

The surrendered group included four hardcore members, such as Divisional Committee member Pandi Dhruv alias Dinesh, and members of Military Company No. 6, Dule Mandavi alias Munni, Chhattis Poyam, and Padni Oyam. Each of these individuals carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh. Several others, including area committee members like Lakhmu Usendi and Sukmati Nureti, also surrendered, with bounties ranging from Rs 5 lakh each.

Three surrendered cadres also handed over valuable weapons, including a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), an INSAS rifle, and a .303 rifle. These individuals will now benefit from the state’s rehabilitation policy, receiving support to rebuild their lives and integrate back into mainstream society. This event marks a major success for law enforcement and development efforts in the region.

In a significant development for law enforcement in Chhattisgarh, 28 Naxalites have laid down their arms and surrendered in the Narayanpur district. The group’s surrender is particularly noteworthy as 22 of its members carried a combined bounty totaling Rs 89 lakh, highlighting their former roles within the extremist organization. The surrendered Maoists, including 19 women, reportedly cited growing confidence in the state government’s commitment to development and effective rehabilitation policies as their primary motivation. Initiatives like the ‘Niyad Nellanar’ (Your Good Village) scheme, aimed at bringing essential services to remote areas, and the ‘Poona Margham’ program, designed for the societal reintegration of former militants, were identified as key influences. Four individuals were designated as hardcore members, including Pandi Dhruv alias Dinesh, a Divisional Committee member, and Dule Mandavi alias Munni, Chhattis Poyam, and Padni Oyam, all associated with Military Company No 6 of the East Bastar division. Each of these carried a substantial reward of Rs 8 lakh. Other surrendered cadres included several area committee members, each with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh. The surrender was further bolstered by the recovery of significant weaponry, including an SLR, an INSAS rifle, and a .303 rifle.
In a significant blow to extremist activities, fifteen Naxalites laid down their arms before security forces in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. The group included nine individuals with a combined bounty totaling Rs 48 lakh, underscoring their former roles within the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). Five women were among those who surrendered, marking a notable shift in local Naxalite presence. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed the surrender and stated that the former militants cited the state government’s progressive development and rehabilitation initiatives as key motivators. Initiatives like the ‘Niyad Nellanar’ scheme, aimed at improving remote village infrastructure, and the ‘Poona Margham’ surrender policy, designed for social reintegration, were specifically mentioned as encouraging factors. The surrender includes hardened cadres such as Madvi Sanna and Suryam alias Ravva Soma, both with Rs 8 lakh bounties, along with their wives, highlighting the impact of these government programs on reducing insurgency in the region. Each surrendered individual received immediate financial assistance of Rs 50,000 as part of their reintegration process, with further support pledged under existing government schemes. This event follows a trend of increasing surrenders in Chhattisgarh, with over 2,150 Naxalites having renounced violence in the past 23 months.

In a significant win against Left Wing Extremism, 51 Maoist cadres laid down their arms and surrendered to security forces in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Among the 51, twenty individuals carried a collective bounty totaling Rs 66 lakh, underscoring their former roles within the insurgent groups. This mass surrender, which also included nine women, is seen as a major boost for peace and rehabilitation efforts in the region. Officials highlighted that the Maoists were swayed by the government’s effective rehabilitation policies and the visible developmental progress taking place across Bastar. Their decision to abandon violence is a testament to the state’s strategy of fostering peace, dialogue, and development to combat Naxalism. The surrendered individuals were part of various key Maoist units, including the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion number 01, area committees, platoons, and lower-rung operatives. Their integration back into society is facilitated by the ‘Poona Margem – Punarwas se Punarjeevan’ initiative, a program designed by the Bastar Range Police to reintegrate former rebels into mainstream life. This initiative continues to show success, with Bijapur alone seeing 650 Maoist surrenders since January 2024.
