  • 16 injured as bus falls into ditch in Chhattisgarh

    RAIPUR: At least 16 people were injured when a private bus overturned and fell into a ditch in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district on Tuesday, police said.

    Four of the injured persons were in a critical condition, they said.

    The accident took place around 4 am near Gumga village under Udaipur police station area when the bus, with 32 people on-board, was heading towards Garhwa (Jharkhand) from Raipur, Additional Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma told PTI.

    Prima facie, the bus driver apparently lost control over the wheels at a sharp turn following which the vehicle overturned and fell into the roadside ditch, he said.

    After being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot.

    The 16 injured people were shifted to a community health centre in Udaipur.

    Later, four critically injured persons were referred to the district hospital, he said.

    The police arranged food and drinking water for the other passengers before sending them to their destinations in another vehicle, the official said.

    A case has been registered against the bus driver, he said.

  • Four killed in car-truck collision in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker

    RAIPUR: Four persons were killed when their car collided with a truck on a national highway in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, police said on Thursday.

    The accident took place on Wednesday night on NH-30 near Ratesara village under Charama police station limits, around 100 km from here, an official said.

    According to eyewitness, a speeding truck, which was on the wrong side of the road, rammed into the car, the official said.

    The four occupants of the car Ahmed Ali, Rahmat Ali, Sanju Tirki and Pravin Sinha, who were heading towards Lakhanpuri village, were critically injured, he said.

    The victims were taken in a police-patrolling vehicle to Charama Hospital, where Ahmed and Rahmat were declared brought dead and Tirki died during treatment, he said.

    Sinha succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in neighbouring Dhamtari district, he added.

    A case has been registered against the truck driver who fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind, the official said, adding that efforts are on to trace the accused.
