Bihar’s administrative machinery received a major jolt on sports development as Chief Secretary Prayas Amrit led a crucial review of the Sports Department. With Sports Secretary Mahendra Kumar and top brass in attendance, the meeting laid down comprehensive guidelines to revamp the sector.

Security emerged as the top priority. Amrit mandated CCTV installations across every panchayat sports ground and open stadiums, aiming to plug vulnerabilities in the sports setup.

He pushed for a structured framework for sports clubs, insisting on systematic activation processes backed by ongoing evaluations from secretary-level inspections. This will establish a vigilant monitoring mechanism for scheme execution.

Grassroots accountability got a boost with instructions to tag district sports officers, government trainers, and PE teachers to each club, ensuring on-ground responsibility.

Procurement reforms were highlighted to promote fairness. Open calls for empanelling vendors will provide clubs with standardized, high-quality equipment, eliminating cartel-like practices.

The 27 Eklavya centers drew praise, with directives to operationalize pending ones promptly. Half marathon events are lined up for November and February, signaling vibrant community engagement ahead.

This proactive stance reflects the Nitish Kumar administration’s resolve to nurture a safe and equitable sports culture, empowering Bihar’s youth through structured athletic programs.
