This year, the class 12 pass percentage stands at 92.71 per cent with 33,432 candidates having scored above 90 per cent and 1,34,797 above 95 pc.

Similar trends have been witnessed in the class 10 results, announced by the board on Friday.

The board officials, however, claimed that this academic session was a “special one” and cannot be compared with previous sessions.

“COVID, non-conduct of classes, holding examinations two times, conducting an objective type examination, giving replies on OMRs, evaluation by schools etc, has made this session a special one and thus it cannot be compared with any of the previous sessions,” CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

The last-year result was declared on the basis of a special assessment scheme as no exams were conducted due to the pandemic.

Similarly, in 2020, the exams were mid-way when a nationwide lockdown was announced to contain the spread of COVID-19 and results were announced later on the basis of an assessment scheme which took into account students’ performance in the exams conducted before the lockdown.

The pass percentage that year stood at 88.78.

In 2019 i.e. before the outbreak of the virus, the pass percentage was recorded at 83.40, whereas the figures in 2018, 2017 and 2016 stood at 83.01, 82.02 and 83.05, respectively.

A similar jump has been seen in the number of candidates scoring more than 90 and 95 per cent.

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The first term board exams for class 10 will begin from November 30, while the exams for class 12 is scheduled from December 1, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Monday.

According to examination controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the announced date sheet is for major subjects while the schedule for minor subjects will be sent to schools separately.

The exams for minor subjects for classes 10 and 12 will begin from November 17 and November 16 respectively.

Bifurcating the academic session, holding two term-end exams and rationalising the syllabus were part of the special assessment scheme for class 10 and 12 CBSE board exams for 2021-22, which were announced in July in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CBSE had last week said that the first-term board examinations for classes 10 and 12 will be conducted offline in November-December.

The board had said the exams will be objective and the duration of the tests will be 90 minutes.

The exams will start from 11.30 am instead of 10.30 am in view of the winter season.

  • CBSE to carry out random inspection of schools preparing Class 10, 12 results

    By Express News Service
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday asked its regional officers to carry out random inspections to ensure that schools under their jurisdiction are following Class 10 and Class 12 result tabulation properly.

As the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of the board examinations this year, the results of Class 10 and 12 students are being tabulated based on a formula prepared by the CBSE.

The board has directed officials to carry out “sudden inspection” without providing schools any prior information regarding their visit.

“In order to have actual information of the result work of the schools, it may be ensured that while visiting the schools, no prior intimation be given to the schools and only sudden inspection is carried out,” said the board under the Union education ministry in a circular. It said that all types of schools – private, government, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Schools – should be inspected and regional officials should prepare pointwise reports of all schools and sign on school documents inspected by them, especially on rationale documents.

The board also asked officials to submit complete reports on the inspections by July 12.

The CBSE after releasing the detailed tabulation policies for the board examinations, had started a portal, and a helpline to assist schools in preparation of students’ results.

For preparation of Class 12 results, the board had already said it may depute a team to verify marks awarded by schools to their students adding that if a school “deliberately indulges” in an unfair practice, the board has the right to disaffiliate the school, impose financial penalties, and not to declare results.

Class 12 results are set to be announced by July 31 while Class 10 results are expected by the third week this month.

  • Happy to note government decided to cancel class 12 board exams: Supreme Court

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it is happy to note that the government has taken a decision to cancel the class 12 board exams, and directed the CBSE and CICSE to place on record objective criteria for assessment of marks in two weeks.

A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari asked Attorney General K K Venugopal and advocate JK Das, appearing for the CISCE to place on record the parameters in two weeks.

“We are happy to note that government has taken decision to cancel class 12 board exams but we want that the objective criteria fixed for assessment of marks be placed before us,” the bench said.

The bench clarified that it will not give more time for placement of objective criteria as many students will be taking admissions in colleges in India and abroad.

The top court said that it will go through the objective parameters for assessment of marks, so that if any one has any objections it can be dealt with.

“This is equally important as the relief sought by the petitioners seeking cancellation of board exams,” the bench observed.

The government on Tuesday decided to cancel the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the decision has been taken in the interest of students and that the anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Modi in which it was decided that the CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class 12 students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.
