  • Delhi Capitals’ IPL season was satisfying, humbling, enriching: Mohammad Kaif

“Can you come for the batting nets, bhai?” It was Shikhar Dhawan on the phone in July in New Delhi. It had become our Covid routine of sorts; by the time I would reach, he would be ready, waiting. It would come to my mind later when he started to find touch midway during IPL; everyone does prepare well and sometimes when it clicks as well as it had done for him, it does feel good.

Those stints were our gentle re-entry to the game in these unusual times. I was eagerly looking forward to the tournament, to exchange notes with Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals’ coach, to discuss strategies and to the pre-game buzz. Truth be told, I was also not troubled by the quarantine restrictions – neither before nor now after enduring it – but just glad that BCCI had managed to pull off one of the greatest competitions of our times. It of course helped that my team, Delhi Capitals, reached the final for the first time ever in 13 years.

In the first half, we were the team to beat and though we slipped later, we clawed our way back though we eventually lost to a very professional unit in Mumbai Indians.

  • Delhi Capitals proud: Ricky Ponting

After being defeated by Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the title match of the IPL, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said that he was proud of the way the team played during the tournament. Delhi on Tuesday, batting first in the title match of IPL-13, scored 156 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs, but this score was not too much to defeat Mumbai. Mumbai won the title by scoring 157 runs for five wickets in 18.4 overs and for the first time playing the final Delhi’s dream of becoming the new IPL champion could not be realized.

Ponting said – Mumbai Indians is a great team. They have defeated us four times. It was disappointing to see his team lose as a coach but I am very proud of the way our team players played, “he said.” Shreyas Iyer is a great player, captain and person. They have certainly developed a lot in the last 12 months. Hopefully, we will work together in future also. We had barely three and a half weeks to prepare before the tournament, so our preparation could not be very much.

Ponting said – This tour was really challenging for us. I was apprehensive about leaving Australia and coming here but the organizers did a very good job. We had a team of young players for the tournament and I am very proud of them.

  • We will try our best to win the IPL Trophy next year: Shreyas

After being defeated by Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the title match of the IPL, Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has said that his team will try their best to win the trophy next year. Delhi scored a challenging score of 156 for seven in 20 overs, batting first in the title match of IPL-13 on Tuesday, but this score was not enough to defeat Mumbai.

Mumbai took the title to 157 for five in 18.4 overs and Delhi, who was playing the final for the first time, broke their dream of becoming the new IPL champion. Shreyas praised Ricky Potting, the head coach of Delhi Capitals after losing the match and said – the way Ricky gave us the freedom to play in our own way is unprecedented. The way he has encouraged the players is amazing. His meetings and motivational speeches with the team were exceptional.

He said, IPL always surprises you. This is one of the most difficult leagues. I am very happy to be a part of it. I am proud of my players. The way he has played to reach the finals is not easy. It would have been better if we had won the IPL. We will try to win the trophy next year. I want to thank our fans. We are grateful for the way our fans supported us throughout the tournament.

  • I am not a captain to run with a stick behind the players for good performance: Rohit

After beating Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the title match of the IPL, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said that he is not a captain who will run with a stick behind the players for good performance but build confidence in them for the win Is necessary. Delhi won the toss in the title match of IPL-13 on Tuesday, batting first and scored a challenging score of 156 for seven in 20 overs. After this, Mumbai scored 157 for five in 18.4 overs to easily win the title and for the first time playing the final, Delhi’s dream of becoming the new IPL champion was broken.

Mumbai had won titles before 2013 in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. After winning the IPL title, Rohit said – I am very happy with the way we played in the entire season. We said in the beginning that we need to get into the habit of winning. We cannot desire more than this. We never looked back after moving forward. I think a lot of the credit for the victory goes to the people working behind the scenes. The hard work of these people often goes unnoticed.

He said, “Our work started long before the IPL started. I had to work to bring out the best out of the players of the team. I am not a person who runs a stick with a stick to perform well. It is important to instill confidence in the players. Krunal, Hardik and Pollard played very well for a long time. They know their roles. “Rohit said, We made sure that Ishaan and Suryakumar are full of confidence. Suryakumar is a very mature player. He remained in form throughout the tournament and also played some incredible shots. Unfortunately fans were not present at the stadium this season. We remembered playing in an environment like Wankhede. Hopefully the IPL will play there again next year.

  • Delhi’s golden chance to break their 12-year title jinx

A record-extending fifth IPL title or a maiden title that will break a 12-year jinx? One of those two possibilities will become reality after the IPL final today in Dubai.
The stage is set for four-time champions Mumbai Indians to lock horns for a fourth time this season with the Delhi Capitals, who are still searching for their maiden IPL title. It’s a clash of the two teams which finished as the top two teams after the league stage.
In three previous encounters this season, including in Qualifier 1, Mumbai have comprehensively beaten Delhi.

Four time champions Mumbai Indians have an unmatched legacy. The Rohit Sharma-led team entered their sixth IPL final after beating Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1. Delhi Capitals meanwhile registered a 17-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator to enter their maiden IPL final.
Who will be under more pressure? A team that’s played five finals before or the one which is in its first ever IPL summit clash.

  • Trent Boult ‘looking good’ to play in final against DC, confirms MI skipper Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians ready for the final hurdle against Delhi Capitals in the Dream 11 IPL 2020 finals which is scheduled to take place on 10th Nov at 7:30 PM IST.
Ahead of the title-deciding match, MI skipper Rohit Sharma gave an injury update on Trent Boult and said that the pacer is expected to play on Tuesday.
“Trent looks pretty good. He’s gonna have a session today with all of us, he has pulled up pretty well in the last two days. So, fingers crossed, hopefully he plays,” Sharma said.
Earlier in the day, the franchise posted a video in which Trent Boult can be seen bowling in nets. Ahead of the finals match, Mumbai Indians players are sweating it out hard in nets and smashing big hits to beat the Delhi capitals. They are leaving no stone unturned in their final preparations.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals on 10 November at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They aim to win record-extending the fifth IPL title this year as earlier they won the IPL trophy in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Trent Boult gave MI a dream start to the IPL 2020 Qualifier 1 by bagging two wickets in only his first over of the innings. After troubling DC batters extensively in his first two overs, the Kiwi pacer didn’t return to bowl having suffered a groin injury, sending chills down the spine of Mumbai supporters.

In his first spell, Boult ended with figures of 2-1-9-2 and he was expected to partner Jasprit Bumrah with the ball in the death overs too but he had to leave the ground in the 14th over because of the injury.

  • There will be competition for Purple Cap between Rabada and Bumrah

Delhi Capitals fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah will clash for the purple cap for the most wickets in the IPL title match on Tuesday. Rabada leads the IPL-13 with 29 wickets while Bumrah is in second place with 27 wickets. The performance of both the fast bowlers in the final will decide their teams to be the winner.

Rabada had taken four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad and in one jolt he overtook Bumrah, Rajasthan Royals ‘James Faulkner and Mumbai Indians’ Lasith Malinga to reach the second highest in IPL history in terms of wickets in a season. However, the final will decide which of the purple cap Bumrah and Rabada get the most wickets in the season of IPL 13.

The IPL record in this case is named after Dwayne Bravo of Chennai Super Kings, who took 32 wickets in 2013. Manilga took 28 wickets in 2011 and Faulkner in 2013 with 28 wickets.

  • Shikhar will have a chance to get orange cap

Shikhar Dhawan, the left-handed opener of the Delhi Capitals, will have a chance to get the Orange Cap for all-round runs in IPL-13. Shikhar had scored a brilliant 78 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday in Qualifier 2 and completed 600 runs in the tournament. Shikhar now has 603 runs in 16 matches and he is second behind Lokesh Rahul of Kings XI Punjab in terms of scoring the most runs.

Punjab captain Rahul scored 670 runs in 14 matches. If playing another big innings against Mumbai Indians in the summit finals gives the team the title for the first time, then they can also get the Orange Cap. There is a 67-run gap between him and Rahul. In the final, three players from Mumbai, Ishaan Kishan, Kinton De Kock and Surya Kumar Yadav will have a chance to complete 500 runs in the tournament. Kishan has 483, D Cock has 483 and Suryakumar has 461 runs.
