  • Ravindra Jadeja becomes the 34th Indian player to play 50 Tests

    Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completed his 50 Tests as he landed his second Boxing Day Test against Australia on Saturday. Jadeja became the 34th Indian to play 50 Tests. Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury in the first T20 match in Canberra and a few balls later Mitchell Starc’s bouncer hit his helmet causing him to suffer a concussion.

    After three weeks of rehabilitation, Jadeja became fully fit and was included in the team in place of Indian captain Virat Kohli for the second Test. Left-arm spin all-rounder Jadeja has so far taken 214 wickets in addition to scoring 1869 runs in 50 matches.

  • India-Australia Condemn Use Of Terrorist Proxies; To Collaborate On Counter-terrorism

    Condemning the use of terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism, India and Australia, on December 17, underlined the urgent need for countries to take “immediate, sustained, verified and irreversible” action to ensure no territory is used for terrorist attacks. Both the countries, virtually participated in the 12th meeting of Joint Working Group on counter-terrorism wherein Canberra condemned terrorist attacks that shook India over the years including the 26/11 attacks, Pulwama and Pathankot. In addendum, it also stressed the “urgent need” to bring perpetrators of such attacks to justice.

    The virtual meet was attended by Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary for Counter-Terrorism in the Ministry of External Affairs of India and Tony Sheehan, Deputy Secretary International Security, Humanitarian and Consular Group in Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia. Both sides reviewed threats posed by UN-sanctioned terrorist entities and emphasized the need for concerted actions against all terrorist groups.

  • Australia Accuses China Of Breaching Trade Rules; Slams ‘discriminatory’ Coal Ban

    Amid the rising tensions between Beijing and Canberra, Australian PM Scott Morrison on December 15 accused China of breaching international trade rules through its reported ban on Australian coal imports. Morrison’s remarks come in response to a report in Chinese state media outlet Global Times confirming that Beijing was restricting imports of coal only from Australia and prioritising imports from Mongolia, Indonesia and Russia. The Australian PM, along with Trade Minister Simon Birmingham, accused China of breaching its agreement with Australia and further said that the government is seeking clarification from Beijing about the reported ban. 

    According to The Guardian, Morrison said that if the coal ban was in a place that would “obviously be in breach of WTO rules” and “obviously in breach of our own free trade agreement”. While speaking about the souring relationship between the two countries, he argued that it was correct to stand up for liberal democratic values, Australia’s sovereignty and to push for an investigation into the origins of COVID-19. Further, Morrison also hoped that he would have a “direct” conversation with his Chinese counterpart in 2021, saying there was “no barrier to that occurring on the Australian side”.

    After winning the last match of the ODI series against Australia, Indian team captain Virat Kohli said on Wednesday that he is happy with the performance of the team and he hopes that the team will carry this rhythm forward. Although the Indian team lost the series 1-2, but for the last match, Virat made a change in the team which benefited and the team managed to win the last ODI.

    Virat said after the match, “We were under pressure during Australia’s batting. With the arrival of Shubman and other new players, there was some freshness in the final match. The pitch for this match was better for bowlers. Face it We did well in the ball and fielding. I am happy with the performance of the team and hope that the team will carry the same rhythm in the future. “

    Virat said about his batting and the performance of Jadeja and Pandya, “I wanted to take my innings forward and spend time on the pitch. Pandya and Jadeja had a great partnership. The team needed similar encouragement and especially when you are playing in front of a team like Australia. “Now the three-match T20 series between the two teams will begin on December 4 with the first match in Canberra. After the first match, both teams will return to Sydney where the second and third matches will be played on 6 and 8 December.

  • Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record, Is The Fastest To 12,000 ODI Runs

    Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the fastest to reach 12,000 runs in One-day International cricket. Kohli breached the mark in the third ODI against Australia in Canberra. The 32-year-old had 11,977 runs before this game and got to the landmark soon after arriving at the crease after winning the toss and batting first. Kohli got to the milestone in his 242nd inning thus bettering the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar, who got his 12000th run in his 300th inning.

    Kohli is the second-highest scorer for India in ODIs behind Tendulkar’s 18,426 from 463 ODIs. The India captain also holds the record for the fastest batsman (in terms of innings) to 10,000 and 11,000 runs in ODIs.

    Kohli reached 11,000 runs in 222 innings and became the fastest to breach the 10000-run mark by doing so in his 205th inning. The current India captain made his ODI debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka and has hit 43 ODI centuries in addition to 59 fifties in a career that’s spanned over 12 years. The most recent of his half-centuries came in the second ODI against Australia in Sydney where he hit 89 in India’s chase of 390 runs.

  • Virat Kohli 23 runs away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s massive record

    India captain Virat Kohli will be on the verge of achieving a huge milestone when he steps out to bat in the 3rd ODI against Australia on Wednesday in Canberra. The Indian team has already lost the series with the Aaron Finch-led Australia taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Kohli played a scintillating 89-run innings in the 2nd ODI during India’s 390-run chase. But a great catch from Moises Henriques ended his stay as India lost the match by 51 runs.

    But the visitors will have a chance to pick up a consolation win and avoid the clean sweep in the 3rd ODI in Canberra. In the match, Kohli will have a chance to surpass India legend Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach 12,000 run-mark in the ODIs.

    Kohli is just 23 runs away from reaching the 12,000 ODI-run mark. If he manages to do so, he would reach the mark in his 251st ODI, and 242nd innings. In comparison, it took Tendulkar 309 matches and 300 innings to reach the mark.

    Overall, Kohli will be the sixth player in the list, only after Australia’s Ricky Ponting, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene.

    Kohli will also be on the verge of equalling Sachin’s record of most ODI hundreds by an Indian player against Australia. If Kohli makes a ton, it will be his 9th ODI hundred against the Aussies.
