In a testament to its aviation resurgence, China’s civilian airports achieved historic peaks across key metrics in 2025. Official data from the CAAC reveals 1,529.046 million passengers flew through these gateways—a 4.8% jump. Cargo and mail volumes hit 21.864 million tons (up 9.0%), and movements reached 12.448 million (0.4% growth), solidifying China’s status as a global air transport leader.

The comprehensive 2025 bulletin details a network of 270 airports, 266 with scheduled services linking 261 urban areas. This infrastructure supports everything from daily commutes to international trade.

Passenger volume concentrated in top-tier facilities: 41 airports exceeded 10 million passengers, dominating 83.7% of nationwide traffic. These powerhouses drive tourism, business, and family reunions.

On the freight front, 35 airports managed over 100,000 tons of cargo and mail, capturing 93.6% of the total. The growth mirrors China’s export surge and supply chain innovations.

Looking ahead, experts predict sustained momentum, with investments in green tech and capacity upgrades set to propel the sector into a new era of efficiency and sustainability.
