The incident occurred in Bhusaula Danapur, where Rizwan Qureshi was brutally murdered on Sunday morning. Police swiftly apprehended three suspects within eight hours: Rizwan’s elder brother, Shahbaz Qureshi; his wife, Shabnam; and Syed Raza, a resident of Jamaluddinchak, who supplied the weapon.

Authorities recovered a country-made pistol, seven live cartridges, and an empty cartridge from the scene. Investigations revealed that Rizwan had an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law, which persisted even after her marriage. This caused growing discord within the family. Shahbaz, the elder brother, was angered by the relationship. Despite attempts to resolve the issue, he ultimately devised a plot.

According to City SP Paschimi Bhanu Pratap Singh, Shahbaz pressured his wife, threatening to divorce her if she refused to murder Rizwan. Fearing the consequences, Shabnam conspired to kill her brother-in-law.

On Saturday night, as planned, Shabnam mixed sleeping pills into the family’s tea, causing everyone to fall into a deep sleep. Taking advantage of the darkness, Shabnam shot Rizwan while he slept, killing him instantly. To protect her husband, she locked him in a room to deflect suspicion. After the murder, she switched off her mobile phone and attempted to flee Patna Junction.

Shahbaz procured a pistol and six cartridges from Syed Raza to execute the murder. He took his wife to Khagaul Canal to teach her how to shoot, and she fired three rounds to hone her skills. Furthermore, she also learned to handle firearms from YouTube videos. She underwent training for a month.

The accused woman confessed to the crime during interrogation. Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, Yasmin Khatoon, an FIR was registered at the Phulwari Sharif police station. A special team was formed under the leadership of City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh and SDPO-1 Sushil Kumar. The woman was initially detained, and under intense questioning, she confessed to killing her brother-in-law, Rizwan, due to pressure and fear from her husband.

News of the event caused a sensation in the village. The incident occurred in the Akbarpur block area and came to light on Tuesday when the Nemdarganj police and the Surat police conducted a joint operation to recover the three girls. On July 19, the three underage friends, who attended the same school, left home under the pretext of bringing their mark sheets. Two of the girls were from one village, and the third was from another. They had planned to live together.

After their disappearance, the families searched for two days without any luck. On July 21, a missing person’s report was filed at the Nemdarganj police station. During the investigation, the police discovered that the three girls were working in a textile mill in Patel Nagar, Surat. The shocking part was that two of the girls had married each other, with one taking on the role of the bride and the other the husband. The third girl was living with them as the brother-in-law.

Following a joint operation by the Surat and Nemdarganj police, the girls were brought back to Nawada. When they were brought to the police station, the sight of one girl with sindoor in her hair and the other as a husband shocked everyone. The third girl’s role as the brother-in-law further fueled the discussion around the case. This incident has become a topic of curiosity and debate not only in Nawada but throughout Bihar.

According to the Nemdarganj police station in-charge, Vinay Kumar, this is an unusual case, and the police are investigating all aspects thoroughly. It will be clear what legal action will be taken in this case only after the girls’ statements are recorded.
