On International Women’s Day, Zydus Pharmaceuticals’ Vice Chairperson Meha Patel delivered a straightforward health alert amid the buzz of Delhi’s Pinkathon marathon: Use your two hands for a three-minute self-exam to combat breast cancer. ‘Every day is Women’s Day,’ Patel asserted at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where thousands gathered. ‘We at Zydus implore all women to take this easy test—it’s a game-changer for prevention.’

The Pinkathon pulsed with energy as women runners championed fitness and awareness. Milind Soman, the fitness icon, reinforced the message: ‘Women dedicate everything to others; it’s time they invested in their own health daily.’ This resonated deeply, spotlighting how self-neglect often overshadows women’s well-being.

Nationwide fervor marked the occasion. In a standout moment, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya cycled through the Fit India Pink Cyclothon, praising the activity as supreme for health and eco-friendliness. ‘Women on bikes today proved health consciousness fuels national growth,’ he said, inspiring crowds.

Artist Manas Kumar Sahu’s intricate sand animation, completed in 10 minutes, vividly portrayed women’s empowerment and triumphs, advocating equality and peace. With India’s celebrations blending sports, art, and advocacy, International Women’s Day reaffirms women’s strides across spheres. Looking ahead, the 2026 theme ‘Give to Gain’ stresses that empowering women through support and opportunities benefits all—a timeless call to collective progress.

Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary is shedding light on the critical importance of early breast cancer detection, emphasizing that the disease often presents no outward signs. Sharing her personal journey at the Young Women Breast Cancer Conference 2025, Chaudhary recounted her own diagnosis in 2022, which came as a complete surprise during a routine annual check-up. She revealed that she experienced ‘no symptoms’ and had ‘no clue’ about her condition, underscoring that breast cancer frequently remains undetectable without specific medical testing. Chaudhary stressed that regular health screenings are paramount, as they are the only reliable method for catching the disease in its nascent stages, enabling timely and effective treatment. Her powerful testimony serves as a vital reminder for women to prioritize proactive health management and consistent medical examinations to combat breast cancer successfully. The actress highlighted the significant advancements in cancer care within India since her diagnosis, noting the availability of more affordable generic medications and enhanced support from pharmaceutical entities, all contributing to increased awareness and better patient outcomes.

In a significant move, the Indian women’s cricket team will sport pink uniforms during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This special gesture is aimed at raising awareness for breast cancer, adding a noble cause to the exciting series finale. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this with a video showcasing captain Harmanpreet Kaur and other players proudly wearing the pink jerseys. This initiative aligns with cricket’s history of supporting social causes, mirroring the tradition of South Africa’s men’s team’s Pink Day and similar campaigns in the IPL. The upcoming match is crucial for India, as they aim for their first-ever bilateral ODI series win against Australia, serving as their final competitive fixture before the Women’s ODI World Cup in Guwahati. With the series tied at 1-1, a victory would be historic. While the team’s bowling and top-order batting have impressed, the middle order needs to solidify. Australia, the defending world champions, seek to end the series strong. The match represents a blend of sportsmanship and social responsibility, with India’s pink jerseys symbolizing solidarity with breast cancer awareness and their ambition to make a strong statement at the World Cup.

The Indian women’s cricket team is currently playing a three-match ODI series against Australia at home. The series is currently tied at 1-1. The third and final match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Team India will be playing in a new jersey for this match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared this information on social media. There is a special reason behind changing the jersey color. The Indian women’s cricket team will wear a pink jersey against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, September 20th. This decision was made by Team India to promote breast cancer awareness. The BCCI confirmed this initiative by sharing a video on its social media handle, in which captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Pratik Rawal and Sneha Rana were seen wearing pink jerseys. The BCCI wrote in the caption of the post, ‘To promote breast cancer awareness, Team India will wear special pink jerseys in the third ODI today.’
